Résumé Les performances de pièges à Tabanidae de type Manitoba ont été étudiées en milieu montagnard et subalpin. On a testé les influences respectives de la présence ou de l'absence d'une source de CO2, de la nature de cette source (solide ou gazeuse), de la présence ou de l'absence d'un leurre visuel (sphère noir brillant), de la nature transparente ou opaque de la partie supérieure du piège (hotte conique). Plus de 8.000 Tabanidae et plus de 51.000 Muscidae ont été pris au cours de ces essais totalisant 660 heures-pièges.
Summary Manitoba traps, traps without decoy or with black canopy, unbaited or baited with dry ice or compressed carbon dioxide, were compared for the numbers of horse flies and muscid flies caught in mountainous mixed wood and pasture land and in subalpine larch forest between 1500 m and 2200 m, in July. More muscid flies were captured in the compressed CO2 baited traps than in dry ice baited traps. Haematopota pluvialis, Tabanus maculicornis and Tabanus quatuornotatus were more attracted by CO2 than Tabanus bromius. T. bromius was more attracted by the decoy than other species. The genus Atylotus and T. bromius are more attracted to the black canopy than other species. The visual decoy is more necessary to the efficiency of the trap than the chemical bait. The CO2 baited Manitoba trap caught the greatest number of horse flies (180 per trap and per hour). The unbaited Manitoba trap was efficient too, but other traps were inefficient. About 8000 horse flies and 51000 muscid flies were caught.

Somatomedin is a growth hormone-stimulated peptide purified from plasma which has in vitro actions on cartilage and other tissues. Specific receptor sites for somatomedin distinct from insulin receptor sites have been described for many tissues. This study demonstrates the existence of a specific 125I-somatomedin receptor site on circulating human mononuclear cells. This will provide an easily accessible human source for the study of changes in somatomedin receptors in disease states.  相似文献

Summary The vacuolar equilibrium potential of the lipophilic cation TPMP+ (triphenyl methyl phosphonium) in the giant algaeChara australis andGriffithsia monilis was directly measured. The TPMP+ equilibrium potential was approximately 100mV less negative than the measured vacuolar electrical potential. Thus TPMP+ does not act as a probe of the vacuolar electrical potential and appears to be extruded against an electrochemical gradient. Measurement of the plasmalemma equilibrium potential of TPMP+ showed that extrusion of TPMP+ apparently occurred at both the tonoplast and plasmalemma inChara and at the plasmalemma inGriffithsia. It is concluded that TPMP+ cannot be used as a membrane potential probe inChara orGriffithsia.  相似文献

The nucleotide sequence from the 5′ terminus inward of one third of mouse α- and βmaj-globin messenger RNAs has been established. In addition, using 5′ 32P end-labeled mRNAs as substrates and S1 and T1 nucleases as probes for single-stranded regions, the secondary structures of mouse and rabbit α- and β-globin mRNAs have been analyzed. Our results indicate that the AUG initiator codon in both mouse and rabbit β-globin mRNA is quite susceptible to cleavage with S1 and T1 nucleases, suggesting that it resides in a single-stranded exposed region. In contrast, the initiator AUG in the α-globin mRNA of both species is inaccessible to cleavage, indicating that it is either buried by tertiary structure or is base-paired. Since the rate of initiation of protein synthesis with β-globin mRNA in rabbit reticulocyte is 30–40% faster than for α-globin mRNA, these results imply a possible correlation between the differential rates of initiation with these two mRNAs and the accessibility of the respective AUG initiator codons.  相似文献

The incidence of caries and abscesses in 246 archeologically derived skeletal specimens from the Ipiutak and Tigara levels at Point Hope, Alaska, and 79 specimens excavated from Jones Point, Kodiak Island, Alaska were investigated. All three collections span long periods of time. Only pre-white contact specimens were used. Each specimens was sexed and aged in five year groupings, using standard techniques. Caries and abscesses were recorded by type and degree of severity and correlated with age, sex, and site of origin. All samples displayed very low caries rates and few abscesses per tooth and per individual (both observed frequencies, and frequencies corrected for postmortem loss of teeth). DMF scores were tabulated using both observed and corrected frequencies. Very heavy occlusal wear in all three samples could account for the majority of abscesses and pulp exposures, while the low caries rates are attributable to traditional diets totally devoid of refined sugars, starches, and food additives.  相似文献

A simple and rapid procedure is described for purification of carbamyl phosphate synthetase from the matrix fraction of rat liver mitochondria. Antibodies to the enzyme were raised in sheep and purified from antiserum by affinity chromatography on enzyme-bound Sepharose columns. When membrane-free polyribosomes, isolated from a cytosolic fraction of rat liver, were incubated in a messenger-dependent rabbit reticulocyte protein-synthesizing system in the presence of [35S]methionine, the purified antibody precipitated a product of translation representing 0.2% of total trichloroacetic acid-insoluble radioactivity. It demonstrated mobility characteristics in sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gels expected for a polypeptide of molecular mass approximately 5500 daltons larger than the mature mitochondrial form of the enzyme (160,000 daltons). Proteolysis of both the mature and presumptive in vitro precursor forms of the enzyme yielded respective sets of peptide fragments which gave similar patterns upon gel electrophoresis. Excess mitochondrial enzyme effectively competed with the in vitro product for interaction with anti-carbamyl phosphate synthetase antibody.  相似文献

[3H]Mepyramine binds with high affinity to membranes from brain of human, rat, guinea-pig, rabbit and mouse with drug specificity indicating an association with histamine H1receptors. Considerable species differences occur in the affinity of [3H]mepyramine, with guinea-pig and human having 34 times greater affinity than rat, mouse or rabbit. The greater affinity of [3H]mepyramine in guinea-pig than in rat is attributable both to faster association and slower dissociation rates in guinea-pig. Species differences in affinity for H1 receptor sites occur for some antihistamines but not for others. Some tricyclic antidepressant and neuroleptic drugs are extremely potent inhibitors of [3H]mepyramine binding, exceeding in potency any H1 antihistamines examined. The tricyclic antidepressant doxepin and the neuroleptic clozapine are the most potent of all drugs examined in competing for [3H]mepyramine binding. The regional distribution of specific [3H]mepyramine binding differs considerably in the various species examined.  相似文献

Summary A collection of about 2500 clones containing hybrid plasmids representative of nearly the entire genome of B. subtilis 168 was established in E. coli SK1592 by using the poly(dA)·poly(dT) joining method with randomly sheared DNA fragments and plasmid pHV33, a bifunctional vector which can replicate in both E. coli and B. subtilis. Detection of cloned recombinant DNA molecules was based on the insertional inactivation of the Tc gene occurring at the unique BamHI cleavage site present in the vector plasmid.Thirty individual clones of the collection were shown to hybridize specifically with a B. subtilis rRNA probe. CCC-recombinant plasmids extracted from E. coli were pooled in lots of 100 and used to transform auxotrophic mutants of B. subtilis 168. Complementation of these auxotrophic mutations was observed for several markers such as thr, leuA, hisA, glyB and purB. In several cases, markers carried by the recombinant plasmids were lost from the plasmid and integrated into the chromosomal DNA. The effect of light on [14C]glutamate conversion to free proline during water stress was studied in attached barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) leaves which had been trimmed to 10 cm in length. Plants at the three-leaf stage were stressed by flooding the rooting medium with polyethylene glycol 6000 (osmotic potential-19 bars) for up to 3 d. During this time the free proline content of 10-cm second leaves rose from about 0.02 to 2 mol/leaf while free glutamate content remained steady at about 0.6 mol/leaf. In stressed leaves, the amount of [14C]glutamate converted to proline in a 3-h period of light or darkness was taken to reflect the in-vivo rate of proline biosynthesis because the following conditions were met: (a) free-glutamate levels were not significantly different in light and darkness; (b) both tracer [14C]-glutamate and [14C]proline were rapidly absorbed; (c) rates of [14C]proline oxidation and incorporation into protein were very slow. As leaf water potential fell, more [14C]glutamate was converted to proline in both light and darkness, but at any given water potential in the range-12 to-20 bars, illuminated leaves converted twice as much [14C]glutamate to proline.  相似文献
