Polymer-silver nanocomposites modified cotton fabrics were prepared by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization using pyrrole and silver nitrate. In a redox reaction between pyrrole and silver nitrate, silver ions oxidize the pyrrole monomer and get reduced. This reduced silver as nanoparticles deposited on/into the polypyrrole/cotton matrix layer and the interaction between silver and polypyrrole was by adsorption or electrostatic interaction. The structure and composite formation on cotton fiber was investigated using SEM, FT-IR, XPS and XRD. The results showed that a strong interaction existing between silver nanoparticles with polypyrrole/cotton matrix. FT-IR studies clearly indicated that the interaction between polypyrrole (NH) and cellulose (>COH) was by hydrogen bonding. It is observed that the conductivity of the composite coated fabrics has been increased by the incorporation of silver nanoparticles. In the synthesized composites, silver content plays an important role in the conductivity and antimicrobial activity rate of the fabrics against gram positive Staphylococcus aureus and gram negative Escherichia coli bacteria.  相似文献

The current paper pertains to the study of frog skin, more specifically Rana tigerina skin collagen, which is a major extracellular matrix protein known to play an important role in the wound-healing process. This study revealed interesting differences in the frog skin collagen when compared to the hitherto known vertebrate collagens. This could probably be attributed to the position of the amphibians in the vertebrate hierarchy. Therefore, detailed investigations on the various physico-chemical properties, such as reconstitution, redissolution, viscosity and denaturation were carried out. The study confirms the structural relationship of collagen to habitat and function.  相似文献

The evidences for the possible enzymatic transfer of acetyl groups (catalyzed by a transacetylase localized in microsomes) from an acetylated compound (acetoxy-4-methylcoumarins) to enzyme proteins leading to profound modulation of their catalytic activities was cited in our earlier publications in this series. The investigations on the specificity for transacetylase (TA) with respect to the number and positions of acetoxy groups on the benzenoid ring of coumarin molecule revealed that acetoxy groups in proximity to the oxygen heteroatom (at C-7 and C-8 positions) demonstrate a high degree of specificity to TA. These studies were extended to the action of TA on acetates of other polyphenols, such as flavonoids and catechin with a view to establish the importance of pyran carbonyl group for the catalytic activity. The absolute requirement of the carbonyl group in the pyran ring of the substrate for TA to function was established by the observation that TA activity was hardly discernible when catechin pentacetate and 7-acetoxy-3,4-dihydro-2,2-dimethylbenzopyran (both lacking pyran ring carbonyl group) were used as the substrates. Further, the TA activity with flavonoid acetates was remarkably lower than that with acetoxycoumarins, thus suggesting the specificity for pyran carbonyl group in proximity to the oxygen heteroatom. The biochemical properties of flavonoid acetates, such as irreversible activation of NADPH cytochrome C reductase and microsome-catalyzed aflatoxin B1 binding to DNA in vitro were found to be in tune with their specificity to TA.  相似文献

Image sequence processing methods were applied to study the effect of elevated CO2 on the diel leaf growth cycle for the first time in a dicot plant. Growing leaves of Populus deltoides, in stands maintained under ambient and elevated CO2 for up to 4 years, showed a high degree of heterogeneity and pronounced diel variations of their relative growth rate (RGR) with maxima at dusk. At the beginning of the season, leaf growth did not differ between treatments. At the end of the season, final individual leaf area and total leaf biomass of the canopy was increased in elevated CO2. Increased final leaf area at elevated CO2 was achieved via a prolonged phase of leaf expansion activity and not via larger leaf size upon emergence. The fraction of leaves growing at 30–40% day?1 was increased by a factor of two in the elevated CO2 treatment. A transient minimum of leaf expansion developed during the late afternoon in leaves grown under elevated CO2 as the growing season progressed. During this minimum, leaves grown under elevated CO2 decreased their RGR to 50% of the ambient value. The transient growth minimum in the afternoon was correlated with a transient depletion of glucose (less than 50%) in the growing leaf in elevated CO2, suggesting diversion of glucose to starch or other carbohydrates, making this substrate temporarily unavailable for growth. Increased leaf growth was observed at the end of the night in elevated CO2. Net CO2 exchange and starch concentration of growing leaves was higher in elevated CO2. The extent to which the transient reduction in diel leaf growth might dampen the overall growth response of these trees to elevated CO2 is discussed.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Meningeal hemangiopericytoma (HPC) is a rare neoplasm. It is closely related to hemangiopericytomas in systemic tissues, with a tendency to recur and metastasize outside the CNS. Only a few case reports describe the cytomorphologic appearance of these metastasizing lesions, most having primary tumor in deep soft tissues. We report a case of recurrent meningeal HPC metastasizing to lungs. CASE: A 48-year-old woman presented with a history of headache. She underwent primary surgery 10 years previously for left parietal tumor. Histopathologic diagnosis was HPC. Radiotherapy was given postoperatively. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at admission suggested local recurrence. She also complained of dry cough and shortness of breath. On evaluation, computed tomography (CT) scan lung showed multiple, bilateral, small nodules. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of a larger nodule revealed spindle-shaped cells arranged around blood vessels. Immunohistochemistry with CD34 on cell block confirmed metastatic HPC. CONCLUSION: FNAC is an easy, accurate, relatively noninvasive procedure for diagnosing metastases, especially in patients with a history of recurrent intracranial HPC. Immunohistochemistry on cell block material collected at the time of FNAC may aid in distinguishing HPC from other tumors that are close mimics cytologically.  相似文献

There has been a resurgence and prevalence of fever with symptoms of Chikungunya (CHIK) and increased death toll in Kerala, the southern-most state of India. The objective of this study was to develop a rapid detection method to determine the presence of CHIK- virus in the serum samples collected from febrile patients in Kerala, India. Serum specimens were analyzed for CHIK viral RNA by RT-PCR using primers specific for nsP1 and E1 genes. Five out of twenty clinical samples were positive for CHIK virus. The partial sequences of the E1 and nsP1 genes of the strain, IndKL01 were highly similar to the Reunion strains and the recently isolated Indian strains. A novel substitution, A148V, was detected in the E1 gene of the isolate, IndKL02. The detection procedure used in this study was simple, sensitive and rapid (less than 4 hr). This result suggests that CHIK viruses similar to the Reunion strains, which had resulted in high morbidity and mortality rates, may have caused the recent Chikungunya outbreak in India. The effect of the variant, E1-A148V, in the virulence and the rate of transmission of the virus deserves further investigation.  相似文献
