Three isolates ofA. tenuis isolated from the diseased leaves ofMangifera indica

Musa paradisiaca
l. andPsidium guajava
l. were investigated. They were grown on different sources of nitrogen viz., potassium nitrate, sodium nitrate, calcium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrite, ammonium sulphate, ammonium chloride, glycine, DL-valine, L-glutamic acid, urea, thiourea, L-asparagine and peptone. They were also grown on the medium lacking nitrogen. A wide variation was observed in the growth and reproduction of the different isolates. The growth of all of them was good on potassium nitrate, calcium nitrate, glycine, DL-valine, L-glutamic acid, L-asparagine and peptone but the sporulation was satisfactory on calcium nitrate only. Sodium nitrite supported moderate growth of banana leaf isolate whereas there was no growth of the other two isolates. None of the organisms could grow on the medium lacking nitrogen as well as on thiourea. The results obtained with the isolates under study have been compared with those of earlier investigators and it has been clearly established that the different isolates ofA. tenuis could show marked differences in their nitrogen requirements. 相似文献

The clastogenic effect of cis-dichlorodiammine platinum(II) (cis-platin) on mouse bone-marrow chromosomes has been studied. Cis-platin was injected at 3 different doses. Cells were fixed at different time intervals after treatment. Different types of aberrations together with the percent of mitotic index and frequency of abnormal metaphases were studied. The aberrations observed were primarily chromatid breaks, although isochromatid breaks, interchanges, and multiple breaks were also observed. A dose- and time-dependent effect was observed for both inhibition of mitotic index and frequency of abnormal metaphases. Trypsin-Giemsa staining of bone-marrow metaphase chromosomes from normal mice was compared with the bands of metaphase chromosomes obtained after Giemsa staining of chromosomes from platinum-treated mice and they were observed to be identical. Recurrence and persistent side effects of present day treatment for urolithiasis restrict their use, so an alternate, using phytotherapy is being sought. Dolichos biflorus seeds, which are used as dietary food in India, possess antilithiatic properties. In the present study, a novel dimeric antilithiatic protein (98 kDa) from its seeds was purified based on its ability to inhibit calcium oxalate crystallization in vitro. Amino acid analysis of Dolichos biflorus antilithiatic protein showed abundant acidic amino acids. The mascot search engine presented sequence similarity with a calcium binding protein, calnexin of Pisum sativum from the m/z data obtained by MALDI TOF mass spectrometer. Above results demonstrate the anticalcifying/antilithiatic nature of a novel protein from the seeds of Dolichos biflorus and thus open new vistas for using plant proteins as therapeutic agents to treat urolithiasis. 相似文献
