In an effort to understand the possible role of Rb in cellular growth control, we have investigated the abundance and the
state of phosphorylation of Rb protein (pRb) in normal and colon tumor cell lines as well as in matched colon tumors, adenomas
and adjoining normal colonic mucosa. Resting normal human fibroblast cell lines were found to have only unphosphorylated pRb
and phosphorylation of pRb occurred when the cells entered G1-S phase. In general, the colon tumor tissues had atleast 1.5–2.0
fold increase in the abundance of pRb and 1.5–2.5 fold increase in the percentage of its phosphorylation as compared to the
corresponding normal colonic mucosa. Whereas, the adenomas had similar pRb level and its phosphorylation status as observed
in the normal colonic mucosa. The actively growing tumor cell lines had approximately two fold higher total pRb than normal
cell lines. Although, the percentage of phosphorylated form in growing tumor cell lines as well as normal cell lines were
almost equal, it was still considerably higher than normal colonic mucosa. Moreover, DNA binding assay revealed reduced binding
affinity of pRb from colon tumor cell line SW480 as compared to the normal cell line W138. These results suggest that the
abundance of pRb and its phosphorylation level may have a role in the cellular growth control in human colonic epithelium. 相似文献

In this study, an attempt has been made to maximize the lipid production using response surface methodology (RMS). Levels of nitrogen, carbon, and inoculum were chosen as factors. The results indicated that inoculum level was very important in lipid production, followed by carbon and nitrogen levels. At higher levels of inoculum, the strain was found to be more tolerant to higher concentrations of sugar, and significantly increased lipid production was noticed. Through the fitted models of second order, as per RSM, carbon at 10.24%, nitrogen at 0.37 g/L, and inoculum at the 20% level resulted in maximum biosynthesis of lipids. 相似文献

Abstract— Studies were carried out to identify the minimum levels of protein (casein) needed in the diet in order to prevent or reverse the deficits in brain enzymes previously found with protein deficiency. Groups of weanling albino rats were fed diets containing variable amounts of protein (5, 8, 10, 15 or 20 per cent in experiment I, and 5, 6, 7, 8 or 20 per cent in experiment II) for 5 or 10 weeks. Deficits in brain wt and brain glutamate dehydrogenase and decarboxylase were found to be prevented by a diet containing 8 per cent or more of protein, although for optimum growth 15 per cent protein in the diet was found to be necessary. Groups of rats were fed a 5 or 20% protein diet for 10 weeks after which the 5% protein animals were either continued on the diet for another 10 weeks or changed to one containing 8, 10, 15 or 20% protein. The brain enzyme deficits found with the 5% protein diet were found to be fully reversed by feeding a 10% protein diet during rehabilitation. 相似文献

Cyproterone acetate, a well-known potent anto-androgen, competitively inhibits the action of endogenously and expgenously administered androgens on target organs like the epididymis and ventral prostate (Prasad, Rajalakshmi & Reddy, 1972). Administration of cyproterone acetate to immature 30-day-old rats for 20 days or to adult, sexually mature rate for 15 days, resulted in a marked decrease in the content of sialic acid in the caput and cauda epididymides and a decrease in the secretory activity of the dorsolateral prostate and coagulating glands. The incorporation of (3H) uridine and (3H) phenylaline has been studied in adult rats treated with cyproterone acetate for 15 days. An increased incorporation of (3H) uridine and (3H) phenylalinine was observed in the caput and cauda epididymidis cauda epididymidis followed by the caput epididymidis. However, the increase in incorporation of (3H) phenylalanine was of the same order of magnitude in the caput and cauda epididymidis whereas it was almost insignificant in the ventral prostate. 相似文献

The metabolism of 3H-testosterone by the epididymis and accessory organs of adult male rats exposed continuously to microdoses of cyproterone acetate from subcutaneous capsules were studied. The major metabolite of 3M-testosterone in the epididymis, vas deferens and ventral prostate of control rat was dihydrotestosterone while the formation of androstanediol by these tissues was low. The highest percentage of DHT was formed by the ventral prostate and cauda epididymis. In rats exposed to cyproterone acetate for four months, the conversion of testosterone to DHT was inhibited in all the tissues but maximally in the ventral prostate and cauda epididymis. In these rats, the secretory function of the ventral prostate was normal while that of the epididymis was markedly decreased. These data are discussed based on the differential thresholds of androgens required to regulate the functions of the accessory organs. 相似文献

Seven isolates of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi were isolated from cashew rhizosphere soil of different cashew growing regions of South India. These seven isolates along with two more VAM fungi namely Acaulospora laevis and Glomus mosseae, which were found to be better symbionts for cashew during our earlier study were used to study their effectiveness on the growth and nutrition of cashew rootstock Ullal-1. Four promising VAM fungi were selected based on this study. Rootstocks inoculated with these four fungi were evaluated for their vigour through grafting success, using Ullal-3 cashew variety as scion. Grafting success was more in rootstocks inoculated with A. laevis and one of local isolates Glomus etunicatum. Grafts with rootstock treated with G. etunicatum and A. laevis survived and performed better when planted in the field compared to the uninoculated and other VAM fungal treatments. 相似文献
