The spatio-temporal pattern of spikes converging on a neuron and variations in the combined depolarizing potential in the trigger zone are regarded as information carriers. In both cases the quantity of information is calculated; it is assumed that the depolarizing potential is formed as the weighted sum of the local PSPs. It is concluded from a comparison of the results that "algebraic" summation of PSPs is accompained by loss of essential information, and information carried by variation in the combined PSP is generated only by unessential input information. The investigation confirms the important role of a high spatial damping constant of electrotonic potentials in the dendrites. The damping prevents annihilation of much of the information. Electrical action of "effective" synapses on the trigger zone must evidently be regarded as sensitivity control, with no effect on the information content of the process but capable of weakening or interrupting the transmission of information from dendrites to the trigger zone. It is concluded that the combined PSP cannot serve as an information carrier and that this function may perhaps be performed by signals of a different physical nature which do not undergo damping in the dendrites.M. In the 1990s, an extensive body of data was gathered on the size of the Oncorhynchus gorbuschapink salmon populations of the Sea of Okhotsk at all the main developmental stages. A significant increase in numbers was found for juvenile pink salmon migrating into the offshore regions of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Pacific waters around the Kurils: from 250–450 million in 1990–1991 to 807–1570 million fish in 1993–1999. The overall number of migrating pink salmon in even years sharply increased in 1994 up to 215 million fish. After 1994, this estimate exceeded the number of migrating pink salmon in preceding odd years. Ocean survival of juvenile pink salmon gradually declined. This may be related to changes in the North Pacific pelagic ecosystems.  相似文献

The phenomenon of nonsense suppression, which leads to the reading of stop codons as sense codons, may be related to disturbances in the operation of various components of the translation apparatus and the proteins interacting with them. The phosphatase Ppzlp is one of the factors affecting the nonsense suppression efficiency in the saccharomycete yeast. In this work, the impact of the overexpression of gene PPZ1 and its mutant allele PPZ1-R451L on the phenotypic expression of various mutant alleles of genes SUP35 and SUP45 or the yeast prion [PSI+] was analyzed. On the basis of the data obtained, a suggestion about the possible role of proteins Sup35p and Sup45p in the processes mediating the influence of gene PPZ1 overexpression on the efficiency of nonsense suppression is made.  相似文献

The mitochondrial COI gene was for the first time sequenced in eelpout species of the genus Zoarces from the Taui Bay of the Sea of Okhotsk: notched-fin Z. elongatus Kner, 1868 and the new sympatric form Zoarces sp., differing in a large set of morphological traits. The two species were compared with European eelpout Z. viviparus Linnaeus, 1758 from the Finnish Bay of the Baltic Sea. Divergence and phylogenetic analyses demonstrated a greater genetic similarity between Zoarces sp. and Z. viviparus than between sympatric Zoarces sp. and Z. elongatus.  相似文献

The regulation of internal Na(+) and K(+) concentrations is important for bacterial cells, which, in the absence of Na(+) extrusion systems, cannot grow in the presence of high external Na(+). Likewise, bacteria require K(+) uptake systems when the external K(+) concentration becomes too low to support growth. At present, we have little knowledge of K(+) toxicity and bacterial outward-directed K(+) transport systems. We report here that high external concentrations of K(+) at alkaline pH are toxic and that bacteria require K(+) efflux and/or extrusion systems to avoid excessive K(+) accumulation. We have identified the first example of a bacterial K(+)(specific)/H(+) antiporter, Vp-NhaP2, from Vibrio parahaemolyticus. This protein, a member of the cation : proton antiporter-1 (CPA1) family, was able to mediate K(+) extrusion from the cell to provide tolerance to high concentrations of external KCl at alkaline pH. We also report the discovery of two V. parahaemolyticus Na(+)/H(+) antiporters, Vp-NhaA and Vp-NhaB, which also exhibit a novel ion specificity toward K(+), implying that they work as Na(+)(K(+))/H(+) exchangers. Furthermore, under specific conditions, Escherichia coli was able to mediate K(+) extrusion against a K(+) chemical gradient, indicating that E. coli also possesses an unidentified K(+) extrusion system(s).  相似文献

We undertook a search for proteins interacting with protein p45 by the method of two-hybrid screening in order to determine the function of the Sec14p-like protein p45. A screening of the yeast library of rat lung cDNA, six proteins specifically activating the reporter genes of a two-hybrid system and 21 unlikely protein partners of protein p45 were identified. The most likely candidate for the role of a p45 partner is the surfactant protein C (Sftpc). These results and previous studies led us to the hypothesis that protein p45 fulfills its protective function by participating in the biogenesis of cell membranes. Restriction enzyme analysis was employed in studying the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) ATPase6/ND4L region in several Northeast Asian populations of resident lake char of the genus Salvelinus. On evidence of mitotypes, genetic similarity was assumed for populations of neiva (Ueginskoe Lake), lake resident char from the northern coast of the Sea of Okhotsk (Mak-Mak Lake and Elekchanskie lakes), and dolly varden. Mitotype AAAA proved to be common for these populations. Lake char populations of the Juliet and Maxi lakes (the basin of the Kolyma river) had mitotype DBAA, which is similar to mitotype DBAB observed earlier in Taranetz char S. taranetzi from Chukotka. The divergence between mitotypes AAA and DBAA was estimated at 0.3%. Different origins were assumed for the lake resident char populations from the basins of the Sea of Okhotsk and of the Kolyma River, the former originating in the Pacific and the latter, in the Arctic basins.  相似文献

The structure of the sarcocyst surface apparatus (SSA) was investigated for two sarcosporidian species: Sarcocystis muris (non-pathogenic) and S. fusiformis (pathogenic). The surface membrane, being the main SSA subsystem, makes numerous vesicle-like protrusions with different ultrastructural patterns. This made it possible to distinguish between four and three types of these protrusions in S. fusiformis and S. muris, respectively. Vesicles of similar structure, pinched off from the fully formed protrusions, were classified, correspondingly, in the same four and three different types. A presumable functional role of both protrusions and membrane-coated vesicles in pathogenicity of different sarcosporidian species is proposed. The vesicles pinched off from corresponding protrusions may be involved in transporting certain substance complexes from the sarcocyst to the harbouring host cell. In addition, another way of substance transporting was observed, when the cystic substances, not surrounded with any membrane coating, are thrown from open protrusions directly into the immediate cytoplasm of the host cell.  相似文献

A novel method for immobilizing large DNA fragments on a solid surface was developed. A mixed self-assembled monolayer of thiolated single-stranded DNA with inert alkanethiol was generated on a gold (Au) surface through the Au-S reaction. Surface-tethered DNA generated by this method was compatible with various genetic engineering techniques, including hybridization, polymerization, restriction enzyme digestion and ligation. Kinetic control of surface coverage of immobilized DNA was critical for optimizing genetic engineering techniques on solid-phase. Multi-step reaction schemes utilizing various genetic engineering techniques described above were employed for solid-phase gene assembly. We were able to immobilize DNA fragments of up to 1180 bp on a solid surface. Furthermore, we showed that these immobilized genes can be regenerated by PCR. The present work suggests that these types of assembled genes can be used to store and regenerate genes on solid-phase.  相似文献

The suggestion that the fish specimens caught in the littoral zone off Nedorazumeniya Island, Taui Bay, Sea of Okhotsk, belong to the eelpout species Magadanichthys skopetsi [23] and Hadropareia middendorffii Schmidt, 1904 has been confirmed by the analysis of their molecular-genetic and morphological characters. Their karyotypes have been studied for the first time: M. skopetsi, 2n = 48 (2 meta-, 26 subtelo-, and 20 acrocentric chromosomes), NF = 50; H. middendorffii, 2n = 48 (2 meta-, 36 subtelo-, and 10 acrocentric chromosomes), NF = 50. As a result of a comprehensive study, the levels of interspecific differentiation of these species has been established, the degree of intraspecific variability has been determined, and the lack of the population-geographical subdivision of H. middendorffii has been shown.  相似文献
