Effects of activation of beta3-adrenoceptor (beta3-AR) have not been determined in the spontaneously tonic smooth muscle of the internal anal sphincter (IAS). The effects of disodium (R,R)-5-[2-[2-3-chlorophenyl)-2-hydroxyethyl]-amino]propyl]-1,3-benzodioxole-2,2-dicarboxylate (CL 316243), a selective beta3-AR agonist, on the basal smooth muscle tone and direct release of nitric oxide (NO) by circular smooth muscle strips of the opossum IAS were determined. We also examined the presence of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) protein by Western blot studies. CL 316243 produced a concentration-dependent relaxation of the smooth muscle that remained unmodified by different neurohumoral antagonists. The smooth muscle relaxation by CL 316243 was selectively antagonized by L 748337, a beta3-AR antagonist. Such relaxation was several times longer than by isoproterenol. The effect of CL 316243 was significantly attenuated by a nonselective NOS inhibitor N(omega)-nitro-l-arginine (l-NNA) and by putative inhibitor of eNOS l-N5-(1-iminoethyl)-ornithine dihydrochloride (l-NIO). Inhibitors of iNOS [N-(3-aminomethyl)benzyl acetamide 2HCl] and nNOS [1-[2-(trifluoromethylphenyl)imidazole]] had no effect on this relaxation. Relaxation of the IAS smooth muscle induced by CL 316243 was accompanied by an increased release of NO; this was attenuated by l-NNA and l-NIO. In addition, Western blot studies revealed the presence of eNOS in the circular smooth muscle of the IAS. These data demonstrate potent and protracted IAS smooth muscle relaxation by beta3-AR activation, which is partly transduced via NOS, possibly smooth muscle eNOS. Multiple signal-transduction pathways including NOS activation may explain the characteristic IAS relaxation by beta3-AR activation. The studies may have therapeutic implications in anorectal motility disorders. 相似文献

There has been a great deal of interest in studying the crown of trees using remote sensing data.In this study,crownwidth was extracted from high-resolution QuickBird images for open Populus xiaohei plantations.Regression modelsfor predicting the individual stem volumes of Populus xiaohei were established using extracted crown width,as well asestimated tree parameters(i.e.diameter at breast height[DBH]and tree height)as predictors.Our results indicated thatcrown width could be accurately extracted from QuickBird images using a multi-scale segmentation approach with a meanrelative error of 5.74%,especially for wide-spacing stands.Using either extracted crown width alone or with estimatedDBH and tree height can successfully estimate individual stem volume of Populus xiaohei with the R~2 value ranging from0.87 to 0.92 depending on different model forms.In particular,the two second-order polynomial models(model2 andmodel 6),based on QuickBird image-derived crown widths and estimated DBH and tree heights,respectively,were the bestat describing the relationship between stem volume and tree characteristics. 相似文献

Tree species and wood ash application in plantations of short-rotation woody crops (SRWC) may have important effects on the
soil productive capacity through their influence on soil organic matter (SOM) and exchangeable cations. An experiment was
conducted to assess changes in soil C and N contents and pH within the 0–50 cm depth, and exchangeable cation (Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, and Na+) and extractable acidity concentrations within the 0–10 cm depth. The effects of different species (European larch [Larix decidua P. Mill.], aspen [Populus tremula L. × Populus tremuloides Michx.], and four poplar [Populus spp.] clones) and wood ash applications (0, 9, and 18 Mg ha−1) on soil properties were evaluated, using a common garden experiment (N = 70 stands) over 7 years of management in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Soils were of the Onaway series (fine-loamy, mixed,
active, frigid Inceptic Hapludalfs). The NM-6 poplar clone had the greatest soil C and N contents in almost all ash treatment
levels. Soil C contents were 7.5, 19.4, and 10.7 Mg C ha−1 greater under the NM-6 poplar than under larch in the ash-free, medium-, and high-level plots, respectively. Within the surface
layer, ash application increased soil C and N contents (P < 0.05) through the addition of about 0.7 Mg C ha−1 and 3 kg N ha−1 with the 9 Mg ha−1 ash application (twofold greater C and N amounts were added with the 18 Mg ha−1 application). During a decadal time scale, tree species had no effects—except for K+—on the concentrations of the exchangeable cations, pH, and extractable acidity. In contrast, ash application increased soil
pH and the concentration of Ca2+ (P < 0.05), from 5.2 ± 0.4 cmolc kg−1 (ash-free plots) to 8.6 ± 0.4 cmolc kg−1 (high-level ash plots), and tended to increase the concentration of Mg2+ (P < 0.1), while extractable acidity was reduced (P < 0.05) from 5.6 ± 0.2 cmolc kg−1 (ash-free plots) to 3.7 ± 0.2 cmolc kg−1 (high-level plots). Agricultural soils in North America can be a sink for rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations through the formation of soil organic matter (SOM) or humus. Humification is limited by the availability of nutrients such as nitrogen (N). Recommended management practices (RMPs) that optimize N availability foster humus formation. This review examines the management practices that contribute to maximizing N availability for optimizing sequestration of atmospheric CO2 into soil humus. Farming practices that enhance nutrient use, reduce or eliminate tillage, and increase crop intensity, together, affect N availability and, therefore, C sequestration. N additions, from especially, livestock manure and leguminous cover crops are necessary for increasing grain and biomass yields and returning crop residues to the soil thereby increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) concentration. Conservation tillage practices enhance also the availability of N and increase SOC concentration. Increase in cropping intensity and/or crop rotations produce higher quantity and quality of residues, increase availability of N, and therefore foster increase in C sequestration. The benefit of C sequestration from N additions may be negated by CO2 and N2O emissions associated with production and application of N fertilizers. More studies need to be conducted to ascertain the benefits of adding N via manuring versus N fertilizer additions. Furthermore, site specific adaptive research is needed to identify RMPs that optimize soil N use efficiency while improving crop yield and C sequestration thereby curbing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Due to the wide range of climate in North America, there is a large range of C sequestration potential in agricultural soils through N management. Humid croplands may have the potential to sequester 8–298 Tg C yr?1 while dry croplands may sequester 1–35 Tg C yr?1. These estimates, however, are highly uncertain and wide-ranging. Clearly, more research is needed to quantify, more precisely, the C sequestration potential across different N management scenarios especially in Mexico and Canada. 相似文献

In this paper we review the data on the structure and properties of N6-furfuryladenine (kinetin, K) accumulated during the last forty years. In 1955, kinetin was isolated from DNA as an artifactual rearrangement product of the autoclaving process. Subsequently, its cytokinin activity has been established, demonstrating a wide variety of biological effects, including those on gene expression, inhibition of auxin action, stimulation of calcium flux, the cell cycle, and as an anti-stress and anti-ageing compound. Recently, our views on this very well known plant hormone have changed. There are new data, which show that it occurs in cellular DNA as the product of oxidative, secondary modification and a secondary reaction of DNA. Also new results on the biological function of kinetin have been reported. Various biological effects produced by this hormone in vitro and in vivo have made kinetin even more scientifically interesting and commercially attractive as an ingredient of many beauty cosmetics. 相似文献

Despite the importance of the secondary forest (SF) in tropical areas, few studies have quantified the soil organic carbon (SOC) pool in Costa Rica. Most of the studies conducted to date in this country have focused mainly on changes in the soil C pool following conversion of forests to pastures, which is the predominant land use in the tropics. The aim of this study was to measure SOC concentration and pool in particle-size fractions down to 50 cm depth in four SF stands regenerating from different intensities of prior land use in loamy sand and sandy loam soils of northeast Costa Rica: (i) a gallery forest (GF), (ii) a 15-year-old SF enriched with commercially planted native trees (15SF), (iii) a 25-year-old SF (25SF), and (iv) an abandoned Theobromma cacao plantation >60 years old (60SF). Additional objectives were (1) to determine the relationship of SOC concentration with selected physical and chemical soil properties, and (2) to establish the key determinants of the depth distribution of SOC in order to identify meaningful trends in the SOC pool. The SOC pool was highest under the 60SF (221.4 Mg C ha−1) followed by the 15SF (212.1 Mg C ha−1), the 25SF (195.9 Mg C ha−1) and the lowest in the GF (183.5 Mg C ha−1). The SOC concentration decreased significantly from 59.7 to 94.1 g kg−1 in the 0–10 cm layer down to 31.0 to 45.5 g kg−1 in the 40–50 cm layer in all forest stands. The fine silt + clay fraction contained the highest values of SOC concentration in all forest stands. Soil texture and the age of the SF were identified as the main factors that explained the variability in SOC. The age of SF stand influenced the distribution of size class aggregates and SOC. 相似文献
