We isolated and characterized seven polymorphic microsatellite loci of Ophioblennius atlanticus atlanticus (Valenciennes, 1836) using an optimized protocol to construct and screen a microsatellite‐enriched genomic library. The analysis of variability was performed in 16 specimens from Faial Island (Azores, Portugal). The mean number of alleles was 8.71 ± 2.43 and the level of expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.764 to 0.903. The total exclusionary probabilities using these loci for the first and the second parent were 0.985 and 0.998, respectively, suggesting that these microsatellites are a useful tool for large‐scale parentage analysis.  相似文献

Behuria comosa Tavares, Baumgratz & Goldenberg is a new species from Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, Brazil. It can be recognized by the branch nodes, sinuses of the leaf margins and domatia comose, leaves and inflorescence axes frequently three‐whorled, flowers five(–six)‐merous, calyx lobes broadly triangular and with the apex laterally flattened, and petals glabrous, thickly apiculate. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2008, 158 , 489–492.  相似文献

The presence of c. 1450 individuals of the balanid barnacle Balanus crenatus Bruguière encrusting the test of a clypeasteroid sea urchin from the Late Miocene of the Guadalquivir Basin (southwestern Spain) allows proposing a settlement pattern linked to the growth of the encrusting organism. The possible influence of dip angle was controlled by dividing the test into four concentric zones ranging from lowest margin to apex (0–15°, 15–30°, 30–50° and 0°). Contour diagrams were prepared to identify areas of highest barnacle density as well as size categories distribution in relationship to the pitch of the sea urchin test. The orientation of balanid tests was recorded and plotted on rose diagrams from 0° to 180°. Four size categories of barnacles were distinguished: (1) < 1 mm, (2) 1–2 mm, (3) 2–3 mm and (4) 3–4 mm; these correspond to a growth sequence ranging from post‐larval forms to juveniles. Two areas of maximum settlement density are situated on the posterior margin of the test, on aboral as well as oral surfaces. The aboral surface shows the maximum number of barnacles. Two groups of individuals are defined on the basis of their location, that is, those encrusting the posterior medium part of the urchin, and those located on the anterior half. The results suggest that larval settlement was initially controlled by the availability of free space and afterwards by an intensification effect. Orientation and dip of the test may have played a secondary role in the settlement of the larvae. Substrate colonization seems to have been closely related to the biostratinomic history of the sea urchin test and although several scenarios are possible, our data are congruent with a synchronous settlement of both surfaces (aboral and oral) by one spat or several.  相似文献

1. Several studies have recently focused on the structure of ecological networks involving ants and plants with extrafloral nectaries; however, little is known about the effects of temporal variation in resource abundance on the structure of ant–plant networks mediated by floral nectar. 2. In this study, it was evaluated how strong seasonality in resource availability in a semi‐arid tropical environment affects the structure of ant–flower networks. We recorded ants collecting floral nectar during two seasons (from December 2009 to January 2013): dry and green seasons. Then, we built interaction networks for flower‐visiting ants in the Brazilian Caatinga separately for each combination of transect and season. 3. In general, strong seasonality directly influenced patterns of ant–flower interactions and the overall complexity of these ecological networks. During the dry season, networks were more connected, less modular, and exhibited greater niche overlap of flower‐visiting ants than during the green season. Moreover, resource utilisation by ants during the dry season tended to be more aggregated. These findings indicate that during the dry season, ant species tended to share many resource bases, probably owing to lower overall resource availability during this season. Species composition of the ant network component was highly season specific; however, a central core of highly generalised ants was present during both seasons. 4. The stability of this central core between seasons could strongly affect the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of these interaction networks. This study contributes to the understanding of the structure and dynamics of ant‐flower interactions in extremely seasonal environments.  相似文献

Founder effects during colonization of a novel environment are expected to change the genetic composition of populations, leading to differentiation between the colonizer population and its source population. Another expected outcome is differentiation among populations derived from repeated independent colonizations starting from the same source. We have previously detected significant founder effects affecting rate of laboratory adaptation among Drosophila subobscura laboratory populations derived from the wild. We also showed that during the first generations in the laboratory, considerable genetic differentiation occurs between foundations. The present study deepens that analysis, taking into account the natural sampling hierarchy of six foundations, derived from different locations, different years and from two samples in one of the years. We show that striking stochastic effects occur in the first two generations of laboratory culture, effects that produce immediate differentiation between foundations, independent of the source of origin and despite similarity among all founders. This divergence is probably due to powerful genetic sampling effects during the first few generations of culture in the novel laboratory environment, as a result of a significant drop in N e. Changes in demography as well as high variance in reproductive success in the novel environment may contribute to the low values of N e. This study shows that estimates of genetic differentiation between natural populations may be accurate when based on the initial samples collected in the wild, though considerable genetic differentiation may occur in the very first generations of evolution in a new, confined environment. Rapid and significant evolutionary changes can thus occur during the early generations of a founding event, both in the wild and under domestication, effects of interest for both scientific and conservation purposes.  相似文献

The theft of food items and building materials from nests of stingless bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Meliponini) is most commonly carried out by other Meliponini bee species, especially by those related to genus Lestrimelitta Friese, 1903. In this note, we recorded the theft of cerumen and propolis made by a species of the orchid bee, Euglossa annectans Dressler, 1982 (Apidae: Euglossini) from the nest of the stingless bee Tetragonisca angustula (Latreille, 1811). We noticed that the guard workers of T. angustula did not attack the thief bee even though it did not come sufficiently close to the entrance tube of the nest.  相似文献

Abstract. In a 3-year study during 1990–92, larval collections of the Simulium damnosum complex from the River Corubal system in Guinea Bissau revealed that the only sibling species present were S. sirbanum and the Konkouré form of S. konkourense , but not S. damnosum s.s. which had been found at some of the localities (Saltinho and Cusselinta) in a previous survey by Quillévéré et at. (1981). Their differential distributions were seasonally consistent between years. S. sirbanum was concentrated in the upper reaches of the Corubal, moving downstream at the end of the dry season to exploit new breeding grounds, whereas S. konkourense seemed to be concentrated in the lower reaches and moved upstream in the middle of the dry season.
Since the previous survey, it appears that S. konkourense has largely replaced S. sirbanum and S. damnosum s.s. in the lower reaches of the Corubal. S. sirbanum was consistently associated with man-biting behaviour and, although infection studies were not performed, it is likely that S. sirbanum is the main vector of onchocerciasis in Guinea Bissau as S. konkourense does not seen to be anthropophilic.
Among five polymorphic inversions in S. sirbanum , the frequency of inversion IL-B increased during the dry season; IL-2 and IIL-7 showed homozygous disadvantage whereas IIL-3 and IIIL-6 did not; IS-2 tended to be fixed in all populations. Simulium konkourense populations in the River Corubal differ from those found upstream in its tributary the River Koumba, in the Fouta Djallon of Guinea, by their sex chromosomes (having no sex-linked inversions) and biting preferences, indicating that the populations are not freely interbreeding. Inversion IIIL-X was found for the first time in populations of S. konkourense outside the Fouta Djallon area and a new inversion IIL-Y was identified in samples from the Rivers Corubal and Féfiné.  相似文献
