Abstract. A prolonged light treatment strongly increases responsivity to Pfr in many instances of phytochrome-controlled biogenesis of flavone or cyanidin glycosides. The present investigation deals with the question of whether light also leads to a corresponding increase of responsivity towards Pfr in such photoresponses which are not related to synthesis of flavonoid pigments in outer tissue layers of seedlings. Phytochrome-mediated accumulation of the chloroplast GPD (glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, EC 1.2.1.13) was chosen as a response and the milo shoot ( Sorghum vulgare Pers. cv. Weider, hybrid) as an appropriate subject. It was found that responsivity towards Pfr is extremely weak in a dark-grown shoot while prolonged light pretreatments lead to a dramatic increase in responsivity. Blue and UV light are far more effective than red light in eliciting this effect within a few hours. High responsivity is only maintained in the light. When the seedlings are placed in darkness the level of responsivity drops rapidly with a half-life of the order of 2 h. The data allow more complete explanations for intriguing phenomena of plant life under natural light/dark conditions such as shade detection or sensing of light → dark transitions.  相似文献

Lateral exchange of water and nutrients between xylem and surrounding tissues helps to de‐couple uptake from utilization in all parts of a plant. We studied the dynamics of these exchanges, using stable isotope tracers for water (H218O), magnesium (26Mg), potassium (41K) and calcium (44Ca) delivered via a cut stem for various periods to the transpiration stream of bean shoots (Phaseolus vulgaris cv. Fardenlosa Shiny). Tracers were subsequently mapped in stem cross‐sections with cryo‐secondary ion mass spectrometry. The water tracer equilibrated within minutes across the entire cross‐section. In contrast, the nutrient tracers showed a very heterogeneous exchange between xylem vessels and the different stem tissues, even after 4 h. Dynamics of nutrients in the tissues revealed a fast and extensive exchange of nutrients in the xylem parenchyma, with, for example, calcium being completely replaced by tracer in less than 5 min. Dilution of potassium tracer during its 30 s transit in xylem sap through the stem showed that potassium concentration was up‐regulated over many hours, to the extent that some of it was probably supplied by phloem recirculation from the shoot.  相似文献

The freshwater snail fauna of 51 lakes on the Åland Islands wasinvestigated. Compared with 100 year-old data the number of specieshas remained relatively constant. A species turnover ratio of 0.16% year-1 was calculated for the whole area. The species-area regressionequation gave a z-value of 0.321. The high z-value, the low turnoverratio and a variance to mean ratio of 2.29 are interpreted as aneffect of the relative remoteness of the islands. It is suggested thatsnails colonized the islands via brackish waters, which are graduallycut off by land upheaval. The highest number of species occurin young lakes recently isolated from the brackish Baltic Sea, whileat higher elevations the number of species declines. 植物暴露在细菌或其它微生物病原体下,会形成全身防御,称为系统获得性抗性SAR(Systemic Acquired Resistance),该系统可以在病原体二次侵染时有效抑制病原体对植物的伤害。其中,WRKY转录因子和病程相关蛋白PRs(Pathogenesis-related proteins)在植物抗病信号调控途径中起着重要作用。本研究以模式植物拟南芥为实验材料,对WRKY6和PR1(PATHOGENESIS RELATED)两个转录因子进行初步研究。首先,从拟南芥eFP数据库中获得WRKY6和PR1的基因表达数据,进行生物信息学分析,获得WRKY6和PR1基因在不同胁迫条件下的表达热图。其次,通过实时荧光定量PCR技术,比较了经过生物胁迫和非生物胁迫处理后WRKY6和PR1的基因表达水平。结果表明,拟南芥经过生物胁迫丁香假单胞菌[Pseudomonas syringae pv.tomato(Pst) DC3000]处理后,WRKY6和PR1的基因表达模式具有一定的相似性,然而经过非生物胁迫和机械损伤组合处理后,WRKY6和PR1基因又呈现出不同的表达模式。本研究初步探索了WRKY6和PR1基因的表达模式及其关系,为今后进一步研究系统性获得抗性应答机制提供了思路。  相似文献

Nitrous oxide emissions from a cropped soil in a semi-arid climate   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Understanding nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from agricultural soils in semi‐arid regions is required to better understand global terrestrial N2O losses. Nitrous oxide emissions were measured from a rain‐fed, cropped soil in a semi‐arid region of south‐western Australia for one year on a sub‐daily basis. The site included N‐fertilized (100 kg N ha?1 yr?1) and nonfertilized plots. Emissions were measured using soil chambers connected to a fully automated system that measured N2O using gas chromatography. Daily N2O emissions were low (?1.8 to 7.3 g N2O‐N ha?1 day?1) and culminated in an annual loss of 0.11 kg N2O‐N ha?1 from N‐fertilized soil and 0.09 kg N2O‐N ha?1 from nonfertilized soil. Over half (55%) the annual N2O emission occurred from both N treatments when the soil was fallow, following a series of summer rainfall events. At this time of the year, conditions were conducive for soil microbial N2O production: elevated soil water content, available N, soil temperatures generally >25 °C and no active plant growth. The proportion of N fertilizer emitted as N2O in 1 year, after correction for the ‘background’ emission (no N fertilizer applied), was 0.02%. The emission factor reported in this study was 60 times lower than the IPCC default value for the application of synthetic fertilizers to land (1.25%), suggesting that the default may not be suitable for cropped soils in semi‐arid regions. Applying N fertilizer did not significantly increase the annual N2O emission, demonstrating that a proportion of N2O emitted from agricultural soils may not be directly derived from the application of N fertilizer. ‘Background’ emissions, resulting from other agricultural practices, need to be accounted for if we are to fully assess the impact of agriculture in semi‐arid regions on global terrestrial N2O emissions.  相似文献

Inselbergs occur as mostly dome-shaped rock outcrops in all climatic and vegetational zones of the tropics. Consisting of Precambrian granites and gneisses, they form ancient and stable landscape elements. Due to harsh edaphic and microclimatic conditions, the vegetation of inselbergs differs markedly from those of the surroundings. Monocotyledonous mats form one of the most characteristic communities of this ecosystem. The floristic composition of this community was studied on six inselbergs located in the Brazilian Atlantic rainforest. Dominating are Bromeliaceae ( Alcantarea , Encholirium ), Velloziaceae ( Vellozia ), Cactaceae ( Coleocephalocereus ) and the Cyperaceae Trilepis . The alpha diversity of the mats was relatively uniform among the six outcrops. However, beta diversity varied considerably between the different sites. Beta diversity was highest at the most speciose locality indicating a high degree of stochasticity in colonization. In contrast to the low diversity mats on West African inselbergs, the Brazilian rock outcrops bear a floristically more diverse mat community rich in endemics. Thus the edaphically controlled inselberg vegetation reflects the outstanding diversity of the Mata Atlaântica. Possibly the high species richness of mats on East Brazilian inselbergs is a consequence of a large species-pool. The processes that regulate regional and local diversity in the Mata Atlaântica are not fully clear. It is assumed that historical (i.e. long-term stability) and biotic (i.e. evolutionary interchange of taxa between canopies and rock outcrops followed by differentiation of local populations) conditions have promoted high rates of speciation and their coexistence in isolated habitats. A danger to the unique vegetation of East Brazilian inselbergs is the establishment of invasive weeds.  相似文献

Understanding nitrous oxide (N2O) fluxes from grain–legume crops in semiarid and arid regions is necessary if we are to improve our knowledge of global terrestrial N2O losses resulting from biological N2 fixation. N2O fluxes were measured from a rain‐fed soil, cropped to a grain–legume in a semiarid region of southwestern Australia for 1 year on a subdaily basis. The site included plots planted to narrow‐leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius; ‘lupin’) and plots left bare (no lupin). Fluxes were measured using soil chambers connected to a fully automated system that measured N2O by gas chromatography. Daily N2O fluxes were low (?0.5 to 24 g N2O‐N ha?1 day?1) and not different between treatments, culminating in an annual loss of 127 g N2O‐N ha?1. Greatest daily N2O fluxes occurred from both treatments in the postharvest period, and following a series of summer and autumn rainfall events. At this time of the year, soil conditions were conducive to soil microbial N2O production: elevated soil water contents, increased inorganic nitrogen (N) and dissolved organic carbon concentrations, and soil temperatures generally > 25 °C; furthermore, there was no active plant growth to compete for mineralized N. N2O emissions from the decomposition of legume crop residue were low, and approximately half that predicted using the currently recommended IPCC methodology. Furthermore, the contribution of the biological N2 fixation process to N2O emissions appeared negligible in the present study, supporting its omission as a source of N2O from the IPCC methodology for preparing national greenhouse gas inventories.  相似文献

Estimates of species extinction risk under climate change are generally based on differences in present and future climatically suitable areas. However, the locations of potentially suitable future environments (affecting establishment success), and the degree of climatic suitability in already occupied and new locations (affecting population viability) may be equally important determinants of risk. A species considered to be at low risk because its future distribution is predicted to be large, may actually be at high risk if these areas are out of reach, given the species' dispersal and migration rates or if all future suitable locations are only marginally suitable and the species is unlikely to build viable populations in competition with other species. Using bioclimatic models of 17 representative European woody species, we expand on current ways of risk assessment and suggest additional measures based on (a) the distance between presently occupied areas and areas predicted to be climatically suitable in the future and (b) the degree of change in climatic suitability in presently occupied and unoccupied locations. Species of boreal and temperate deciduous forests are predicted to face higher risk from loss of climatically suitable area than species from warmer and drier parts of Europe by 2095 using both the moderate B1 and the severe A1FI emission scenario. However, the average distance from currently occupied locations to areas predicted suitable in the future is generally shorter for boreal species than for southern species. Areas currently occupied will become more suitable for boreal and temperate species than for Mediterranean species whereas new suitable areas outside a species' current range are expected to show greater increases in suitability for Mediterranean species than for boreal and temperate species. Such additional risk measures can be easily derived and should give a more comprehensive picture of the risk species are likely to face under climate change.  相似文献
