The synthesis and surface behavior of a series of nine new hydrogenated nonionic surfactants and their fluorinated analogs, derived from D-mannitol are described. Adsorption monolayers (Gibbs monolayers) were studied by surface pressure (H) measurements as a function of time. For the spread monolayers (Langmuir monolayers), the measurements of surface pressure versus molecular area (A) were performed. For the most hydrophobic amphiphiles at low concentrations, the adsorption at the air/water interface from the bulk solution required extremely long times to attain equilibrium. The A values for two compounds which could be studied in both adsorbed and spread monolayers provided data allowing a direct comparison of the properties of the two types of films formed at the air/water interface. In spite of different mechanisms of formation of Langmuir and Gibbs monolayers, their characteristic parameters were identical, proving the equivalence of these two types of structures.  相似文献

There have been significant evolutionary pressures on the chicken during both its speciation and its subsequent domestication by man. Infectious diseases are expected to have exerted strong selective pressures during these processes. Consequently, it is likely that genes associated with disease susceptibility or resistance have been subject to some form of selection. Two genes involved in the immune response (interferon-γ and interleukin 1-β) were selected for sequencing in diverse chicken populations from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kenya, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Botswana, as well as six outgroup samples (grey, green, red and Ceylon jungle fowl and grey francolin and bamboo partridge). Haplotype frequencies, tests of neutrality, summary statistics, coalescent simulations and phylogenetic analysis by maximum likelihood were used to determine the population genetic characteristics of the genes. Networks indicate that these chicken genes are most closely related to the red jungle fowl. Interferon-γ had lower diversity and considerable coding sequence conservation, which is consistent with its function as a key inflammatory cytokine of the immune response. In contrast, the pleiotropic cytokine interleukin 1-β had higher diversity and showed signals of balancing selection moderated by recombination, yielding high numbers of diverse alleles, possibly reflecting broader functionality and potential roles in more diseases in different environments. Modified thrombin-binding aptamers carrying 2′-deoxyguanine (dG) residues with locked North- or South-bicyclo[3.1.0]hexane pseudosugars were synthesized. Individual 2′-deoxyguanosines at positions dG5, dG10, dG14 and dG15 of the aptamer were replaced by these analogues where the North/anti and South/syn conformational states were confined. It was found that the global structure of the DNA aptamer was, for the most part, very accommodating. The substitution at positions 5, 10 and 14 with a locked South/syn-dG nucleoside produced aptamers with the same stability and global structure as the innate, unmodified one. Replacing position 15 with the same South/syn-dG nucleoside induced a strong destabilization of the aptamer, while the antipodal North/anti-dG nucleoside was less destabilizing. Remarkably, the insertion of a North/anti-dG nucleoside at position 14, where both pseudosugar conformation and glycosyl torsion angle are opposite with respect to the native structure, led to the complete disruption of the G-tetraplex structure as detected by NMR and confirmed by extensive molecular dynamics simulations. We conclude that conformationally locked bicyclo[3.1.0]hexane nucleosides appear to be excellent tools for studying the role of key conformational parameters that are critical for the formation of a stable, antiparallel G-tetrad DNA structures.  相似文献

Four malignant tumors induced in mouse by different experimental procedures were compared as regards their high-mobility-group (HMG) proteins. All tumors showed the complete set of three HMG proteins which we call HMGI-C, I-D, and I-E. The presence of the three HMGI proteins is a characteristic of the transformed phenotype regardless of whether the tumor was chemically, virally, or spontaneously derived. However, the level of expression of the HMGI proteins is not constant in the four tumors. Using reverse-phase HPLC, the individual HMGI proteins were isolated from the spontaneously derived tumor (Lewis lung carcinoma) and shown by amino acid analysis to be similar to those previously obtained from a tumor grown in nude mice by inoculation of in vitro-transformed cells.  相似文献
