Background
TGF-β acts as an antiproliferative factor in normal epithelial cells and at early stages of oncogenesis. However, later in tumor development TGF-β can become tumor promoting through mechanisms including the induction of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a process that is thought to contribute to tumor progression, invasion and metastasis. To identify EMT-related breast cancer therapeutic targets and biomarkers, we have used two proteomic approaches to find proteins that change in abundance upon the induction of EMT by TGF-β in two mouse mammary epithelial cell lines, NMuMG and BRI-JM01. 相似文献72.

Maize seedlings were flooded for periods from 1 to 15 days, and the leaves of different ages were then taken to examine photosynthesis, dark respiration, transpiration, chlorophyll content, and some morphometric parameters. The responses of leaves to root submergence essentially depended on the leaf layer and the treatment duration. A short-term flooding (1–24 h) induced primary stress responses in the first leaf. Photosynthesis and respiration in this leaf oscillated around the control levels with amplitudes of ±15–25% and ±40–60%, respectively. After a longer flooding, the CO2 exchange in the second leaf was suppressed, while oxygen uptake was stimulated. In the third leaf, which was formed during submergence, the photosynthetic rate increased and the respiratory activity decreased. The transpiration rate did not change in these leaves for 15 days of flooding. The hypoxic treatment, at its early stages, retarded growth and disturbed the source–sink relations. At later stages the plants adapted to hypoxic environment: the seedling growth was restored, which elevated the demand for assimilates and stimulated photosynthesis. Methods for evaluating the motivational component of the fish rheoreaction (ratio of rheoreaction types) are developed and tested in a circular hydrodynamic tank for three fish species (Danio rerio, Poecilia reticulata, and Inpaichthys kerri). Three rheoreaction types of fish were distinguished: a positive type (fish movements against water current), a negative type (fish movements along with water current), and a compensatory type (fish maintaining their position in relation to immobile reference points). The main distinguishing features of these new methods are unrestricted distance for fish movements, continuous monitoring of individual fish movements (video recording), and evaluation of ratio between the types of rheoreaction in terms of duration of demonstration of these types by each. The minimum required observation time and water current velocities are determined. It is shown that these methods can be used for investigating the types of rheoreaction in different fish species. Every single individual repeatedly demonstrated all these three rheoreaction types during the test. 相似文献

We studied the effect of lectins of Azospirillum brasilense Sp 7 on germination capacity of tomato, cucumber, pea, wheat, and onion seeds. The lectins proved to inhibit seed germination. We studied the effect of different concentrations of lectins from four azospirilla strains on the rate of wheat seed germination. Both inhibiting and stimulating effects were demonstrated. Lectin-induced changes in the mitotic state of plant cells were demonstrated with histological sections of the root growing point in onion. 相似文献

Two isoforms of nuclease displaying DNase and RNase activities were found in the culture liquid and periplasm of Proteus mirabilis. The enzyme was isolated from the periplasm and then purified to a functionally homogeneous state. The nuclease was equally potent in cleaving denatured and native DNAs by the endonuclease mechanism and was designated Pm endonuclease. The endonuclease was shown to be a temperature-dependent enzyme with a pH optimum of 10.4–10.6, requiring the presence of bivalent metal ions and inhibited by citrate and ethylenediaminetetraacetate. 相似文献

New analogue of the AVP(6-9), the D-MPRG was administered intranasally in different doses. The administration improved the process of conditioning. The most efficient dose turned out to be 0/01 mcg/kg. Tetrapeptide administered 1 hour before each learning session and immediately after it accelerated the avoidance conditioning. The peptide effect was more obvious in conditioning with a negative reinforcement. The data obtained suggest that the D-MPRG mostly affects the perception of experimental environment as well as improves the consolidation of memory traces. The results of identification of 710 clinical strains of anaerobic microorganisms isolated from the pathological foci of patients with maxillofacial diseases are presented. The species composition of the microflora associations in the cases with abscesses, phlegmon, lymphadenitis, osteomyelitis and parodontitis is described. Along with a high frequency of nonsporulating anaerobes, staphylococci, microaerophilic streptococci and in the cases with parodontitis actinomycetes, Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus coagulans strains (1.6-15% of the isolated strains) were first detected in cases with various forms of the disease. Two groups of the drugs effective against the anaerobes were identified by the data on the antibiotic sensitivity. Antibacterial activity of dioxidine against aerobic and facultative anaerobic organisms under conditions of anaerobiosis i. e. conditions really observed for example in abscess cavities or necrotic tissues is 30 to 100 times as high as that under aerobic conditions. There is a relationship between sensitivity of bacteria to dioxidine under aerobic and anaerobic conditions which is expressed by the regression equation. Therefore, comparison of the MICs determined under anaerobic conditions with the growth inhibition zones formed by disks with the drug under aerobic conditions is possible. The MIC of dioxidine was determined under anaerobic conditions for 179 clinical strains of aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria and the growth inhibition zones of the same bacteria under aerobic conditions were evaluated with the use of disks containing 100, 75, 50, 25, 20, and 15 micrograms of the drug. The border line. MIC differentiating between resistant and sensitive strains was chosen to be equal to 4 micrograms/ml. Differentiation of the strains into sensitive and resistant ones by the values of the growth inhibition zones was performed with the method of error minimization described by C. Metzler and R. De Haan in 1974. Disks containing 25 micrograms of the drug allowed one to differentiate the strains under aerobic conditions into sensitive and resistant ones: the growth inhibition zones greater than 11 mm corresponded to the sensitive strains (the MIC smaller than 4 micrograms/ml) and the growth inhibition zones smaller than 11 mm corresponded to the resistant strains (the MIC greater than 4 micrograms/ml). 相似文献

Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts (lower eukaryotes) were shown to produce a protein exometabolite with reactivation activity. We demonstrated cross-effects of extracellular protein factors of adaptation to stress (heat and UV irradiation) in yeasts and Luteococcus casei bacteria.
