In this study we aim at investigating the applicability of underwater 3D motion capture based on submerged video cameras in terms of 3D accuracy analysis and trajectory reconstruction. Static points with classical direct linear transform (DLT) solution, a moving wand with bundle adjustment and a moving 2D plate with Zhang's method were considered for camera calibration. As an example of the final application, we reconstructed the hand motion trajectories in different swimming styles and qualitatively compared this with Maglischo's model. Four highly trained male swimmers performed butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle tasks. The middle fingertip trajectories of both hands in the underwater phase were considered. The accuracy (mean absolute error) of the two calibration approaches (wand: 0.96 mm – 2D plate: 0.73 mm) was comparable to out of water results and highly superior to the classical DLT results (9.74 mm). Among all the swimmers, the hands' trajectories of the expert swimmer in the style were almost symmetric and in good agreement with Maglischo's model. The kinematic results highlight symmetry or asymmetry between the two hand sides, intra- and inter-subject variability in terms of the motion patterns and agreement or disagreement with the model. The two outcomes, calibration results and trajectory reconstruction, both move towards the quantitative 3D underwater motion analysis.  相似文献

The study of feeding habits of the Atlantic bluefin tuna was carried out in 123 specimens, ranging from 115 to 222 cm fork length (FL) and collected during spring seasons of 2010 and 2011 in the central Mediterranean Sea (Strait of Messina). The analysis of stomach contents allowed us to identify 91 taxa of prey items, mainly belonging to Teleostea (54), Cephalopoda (20) and Crustacea (13). The percentage of index of relative abundance (IRI) shows the highest values for the myctophid Hygophum benoiti (%IRI = 22.854) and the stomiid Chauliodus sloani (%IRI = 15.124), followed by the oegopsid squid Illex coindetii (%IRI = 14.316). The broad spectrum of prey items could suggest a generalist behavior of this predator, with several species that occasionally occurs in its diet. However, if prey are grouped into food categories, the importance of mesopelagic and benthopelagic fishes can be appreciated (54.41 % of %IRI). The assessment of the hypothetical foraging rhythm of the Atlantic bluefin tuna highlighted that its feeding activity is concentrated on diel migrating fauna during night and on larger preys upon daylight. The predation on the high-energetic food as mesopelagic and bathypelagic fishes during the pre-spawning and the spawning period may bring an energetic advantage in tuna metabolism and gonadal maturation  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to develop and assess the performance of a tumor tracking method designed for application in radiation therapy. This motion compensation strategy is currently applied clinically only in conventional photon radiotherapy but not in particle therapy, as greater accuracy in dose delivery is required.We proposed a tracking method that exploits artificial neural networks to estimate the internal tumor trajectory as a function of external surrogate signals. The developed algorithm was tested by means of a retrospective clinical data analysis in 20 patients, who were treated with state of the art infra-red motion tracking for photon radiotherapy, which is used as a benchmark. Integration into a hardware platform for motion tracking in particle therapy was performed and then tested on a moving phantom, specifically developed for this purpose.Clinical data show that a median tracking error reduction up to 0.7 mm can be achieved with respect to state of the art technologies. The phantom study demonstrates that a real-time tumor position estimation is feasible when the external signals are acquired at 60 Hz.The results of this work show that neural networks can be considered a valuable tool for the implementation of high accuracy real-time tumor tracking methodologies.  相似文献

Abstract

Observations on needle length and longevity of Pinus pinea L. - We investigated needle length and longevity of Pinus pinea L. to understand their ecological significance. Samplings regarded five coastal pinewoods (four in the province of Grosseto, one in the province of Lucca) and isolated trees in different sites of Tuscany. We found a significant variation in needle length among different positions of the crown (central, intermediate and peripheral), among individuals of the same site and among different sites; isolated trees showed longer needles and a longer retention than pines in stands. We also obtained a highly significant linear regression between length of different-aged needles (from 1988 to 1992) and rainfall of the period march-august of the same years. Our results suggest that, despite its high variability, needle ength is influenced by climatic conditions (overall by rainfalls) and by the water availability of the site where pines grow. Needle retention depends largely on the position of needles within the crown and on the drought effect: at the upper position, three or, seldom, four-year old needle can persist if the summer drought period is not too long and the site conditions are favourable; at the lower level only two-year old needles are retained. Needle longevity decreases sharply in years with severe drought, therefore it can be used as an index of climatic and edaphic stress.  相似文献

Abstract

The aim of this article was to test the way in which geographical factors influence island floras in the Mediterranean basin, using ferns as target organisms, and the islands surrounding Sicily as location. A matrix with presence/absence data concerning fern taxa in the 16 islands studied was compiled. Cluster analysis, principal co-ordinates analysis (PCoA), principal components analysis (PCA) and a Bayesian analysis were performed. For each island, the total number of fern taxa was regressed against three factors: island area, island elevation and isolation. All the analyses pointed to affinities between islands according to their different geological composition, independently from their geographic position. A clear positive island species/area relationship (ISAR) was shown only for the volcanic islands. The island species/(area×elevation) relationship (ISAER), on the contrary, was unsatisfactory. The main features of interest are the following: (1) the clear division of the islands into two groups, volcanic vs. sedimentary; (2) the floristic richness of the volcanic compared to sedimentary islands and (3) the uniqueness of the pteridophyte flora of Pantelleria. This seems to demonstrate that the lower number of taxa in the islands farthest away from the “mainland” (Sicily, Tunisia) is not due to isolation, but due to another factor, probably habitat availability.  相似文献

We identified the role of various soil parameters and root density as drivers of soil respiration (Rs) in an apple orchard, measured during different periods of the year and at a range of distances from trees, in plots with a different history of nutrient supply. Rs was measured in April, May, August and December and studied in relation to soil temperature and moisture, total soil C and N, as well as to fine root density and medium-, and large-sized root density and root N concentration. The study also aimed to partition Rs by applying the root regression technique. Rs ranged from 0.06 in December to 1.49 g CO2 m?2 h?1 in August. Average soil temperature alone explained up to 71% of the annual variability of Rs, while soil water content was negatively correlated to Rs. Fertilization, soil C and N concentration and root N had negligible effects on Rs. Fine root density, but not medium- and large-sized root density, contributed to explaining part of the yearly variability of Rs and proved to be a good predictor in December, when the statistical significance of the regression made it possible to estimate the autotrophic component of Rs as being about 35% of total soil respiration.  相似文献

The present article describes an l-amino acid oxidase from Bothrops atrox snake venom as with antiprotozoal activities in Trypanosoma cruzi and in different species of Leishmania (Leishmania braziliensis, Leishmania donovani and Leishmania major). Leishmanicidal effects were inhibited by catalase, suggesting that they are mediated by H2O2 production. Leishmania spp. cause a spectrum of diseases, ranging from self-healing ulcers to disseminated and often fatal infections, depending on the species involved and the host’s immune response. BatroxLAAO also displays bactericidal activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The apoptosis induced by BatroxLAAO on HL-60 cell lines and PBMC cells was determined by morphological cell evaluation using a mix of fluorescent dyes. As revealed by flow cytometry analysis, suppression of cell proliferation with BatroxLAAO was accompanied by the significant accumulation of cells in the G0/G1 phase boundary in HL-60 cells. BatroxLAAO at 25 μg/mL and 50 μg/mL blocked G0-G1 transition, resulting in G0/G1 phase cell cycle arrest, thereby delaying the progression of cells through S and G2/M phase in HL-60 cells. This was shown by an accentuated decrease in the proportion of cells in S phase, and the almost absence of G2/M phase cell population. BatroxLAAO is an interesting enzyme that provides a better understanding of the ophidian envenomation mechanism, and has biotechnological potential as a model for therapeutic agents.  相似文献

We report on the characterisation of a member of the acylaminoacyl peptidase family, the first isolated from bacteria. The enzyme was obtained from the psychrophilic bacterium Sporosarcina psychrophila and shows the typical features of cold adaptation (low Tm, optimal temperature of 40 °C, poor thermal stability). It was also tested for substrate specificity, effect of metals, temperature dependence and structure stability and revealed promiscuous catalytic activity on at least two chemically distinct substrates, with kcat/Km values for ester hydrolysis and acylamino acids cleavage of 1.7 × 104 s−1 M−1 and 6.2 × 103 s−1 M−1, respectively. Despite some properties cannot be explained with current models, results report on the relevance of structural and catalytic properties for the successful adaptation to cold temperatures.  相似文献
