The dynamics of the "Etang de Berre", a brackish lagoon situated close to the French Mediterranean sea coast, is strongly disturbed by freshwater inputs coming from an hydroelectric power station. The system dynamics has been described as a sequence of daily typical states from a set of physicochemical variables such as temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen rates collected over three years by an automatic sampling station. Each daily pattern summarizes the evolution, hour by hour of the physicochemical variables. This article presents results of forecasts of the states of the system subjected to the simultaneous effects of meteorological conditions and freshwater releases. We recall the main step of the classification tree method used to build up the predictive model (Classification and Regression Trees, Breiman et al., 1984) and we propose a transfer procedure in order to test the stability of the model. Results obtained on the Etang de Berre data set allow us to describe and predict the effects of the environmental variables on the system dynamics with a margin of error. The transfer procedure applied after the tree building process gives a maximum gain in prediction accuracy of about 15%. 相似文献

Abstract: At the end of neuronal migration, the neopallial germinative zone produces glial cells destined to colonize the upper layers of neocortex. High densities of binding sites for vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) have been found in the rodent germinative zone just after completion of neuronal migration, suggesting a possible role of VIP in neocortical astrocytogenesis. In the present study, administration of a VIP antagonist at embryonic days 17 and 18 to pregnant mice was followed by a dramatic depletion of astrocytes in the upper cortical layer of the offspring. The depletion of astrocytes was dose-dependent, with a 42% reduction in the density of astrocytes observed with 50 µg of antagonist. The antagonist effect was reversed by cotreatment with VIP or pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP), suggesting the involvement of a receptor common to these two neuropeptides. VIP antagonist-induced inhibition of astrocytogenesis was also blocked by Ro 25-1553, a long-acting cyclic VIP analogue selective for the PACAP II VIP2 receptor subclass. Our results demonstrate that VIP and/or PACAP play a crucial physiological role in neocortical astrocytogenesis, possibly through interaction with PACAP II VIP2 receptors. 相似文献

The in vitro effects of low-molecular-weight aluminum complexes (citrate, lactate, and ATP complex) on the Ca2+ uptake and aluminum-induced lipid peroxidation of brain tissue show that the modification of the calcium homeostasis is determined
by the nature of the ligand and that there is no correlation between the aluminum-induced lipid peroxidation and the Ca2+ uptake. The same characteristics have been shown by a similar study performed with Ehrlich carcinoma cells. The electrophoretic
analyses of the aluminum lactate-albumin and aluminum lactate-ATP interactions indicate an aluminum transfer from the lactate
to the albumin and ATP ligands. The increased Ca2+ uptake when ATP is present in the incubation medium with aluminum citrate and aluminum lactate corroborates the suggested

A putative 8,7SI (sterol 8,7-isomerase) from Zea mays, termed Zm8,7SI, has been isolated from an EST (expressed sequence tag) library and subcloned into the yeast erg2 mutant lacking 8,7SI activity. Zm8,7SI restored endogenous ergosterol synthesis. An in vitro enzymatic assay in the corresponding yeast microsomal extract indicated that the preferred Delta(8)-sterol substrate possesses a single C4alpha methyl group, in contrast with 8,7SIs from animals and fungi, thus reflecting the diversity in the structure of their active site in relation to the distinct sterol biosynthetic pathways. In accordance with the proposed catalytic mechanism, a series of lipophilic ammonium-ion-containing derivatives possessing a variety of structures and biological properties, potently inhibited the Zm8,7SI in vitro. To evaluate the importance of a series of conserved acidic and tryptophan residues which could be involved in the Zm8,7SI catalytic mechanism, 20 mutants of Zm8,7SI were constructed as well as a number of corresponding mutants of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae 8,7SI. The mutated isomerases were assayed in vivo by sterol analysis and quantification of Delta(5,7)-sterols and directly in vitro by examination of the activities of the recombinant Zm8,7SI mutants. These studies have identified His(74), Glu(78), Asp(107), Glu(121), Trp(66) and Trp(193) that are required for Zm8,7SI activity and show that binding of the enzyme-substrate complex is impaired in the mutant T124I. They underline the functional homology between the plant and animal 8,7SIs on one hand, in contrast with the yeast 8,7SI on the other hand, in accordance with their molecular diversity and distinct mechanisms. 相似文献

Standard measures of generalized trust in others are often taken to provide reliable indicators of economic attitudes in different countries. Here we compared three highly distinct groups, in Kenya, China and the US, in terms of more specific attitudes, [a] people's willingness to invest in the future, [b] their willingness to invest in others, and [c] their trust in institutions. The aldo-keto reductase rabbit 20alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (rb20alpha-HSD; AKR1C5) is less selective than other HSDs, since it exerts its activity both on androgens (C19 steroids) and progestins (C21 steroids). In order to identify the molecular determinants responsible for this reduced selectivity, binary (NADPH) and ternary (NADP(+)/testosterone) complex structures were solved to 1.32A and 2.08A resolution, respectively. Inspection of the cofactor-binding cavity led to the identification of a new interaction between side-chains of residues His222 and Lys270, which cover the central phosphate chain of the cofactor, reminiscent of the "safety-belt" found in other aldo-keto reductases. Testosterone is stabilized by a phenol/benzene tunnel composed of side-chains of numerous residues, among which Phe54, which forces the steroid to take up an orientation markedly contrasting with that found in HSD ternary complexes reported. Combining structural, site-directed mutagenesis, kinetic and fluorescence titration studies, we found that the selectivity of rb20alpha-HSD is mediated by (i) the relaxation of loop B (residues 223-230), partly controlled by the nature of residue 230, (ii) the nature of the residue found at position 54, and (iii) the residues found in the C-terminal tail of the protein especially the side-chain of the amino acid 306. 相似文献

Summary Heterotrophic activity in the bottom few cm of annual sea ice in the Canadian Arctic was measured throughout the spring bloom of ice algae, using tritium-labelled thymidine and glucose. Experiments with chloramphenicol and cyclohexamide indicated that thymidine assimilation was due to procaryotic microbes but that about half of the glucose assimilation was due to eucaryotic organisms. Glucose and thymidine assimilation rates increased with salinity, from 10 ppt to 30 ppt. Thymidine assimilation rates increased from 1.16 to 4.94·10–21mol·cell–1·h–1 during the latter half of the algal bloom, while the exponential growth rate of the in situ populations decreased from 0.058 to 0.025 d–1. Bacterial production and specific growth rates calculated from thymidine assimilation were 149mgC·m–2 and 0.25 d–1 or less respectively over the 50 day observation period, compared with net primary production of 5,500 mgC·m–2. Thymidine assimilation rates suggested that about half of the bacterial production may be consumed or lost from the ice during the bloom. 相似文献
