Traditionally, art history is a discipline focusing on the developments of Western art and architecture. It is time, however, to broaden our perspective. The world is changing, art is changing, somutatis mutandis is art history. This does not happen on its own accord. Art history needs rewriting and art historians have to do it. We need to take a critical look at our premises and points of departure, and we need to change the art historical curricula at universities and art schools. At Leiden University, the Netherlands, the Department of Art History has opted for a new orientation and decided to study the history of art from a global perspective. This means that students will meet with three lines of approach to the visual art and material culture from regions other than the West. Firstly, they are introduced to the art and material culture of Asian, African, and Amerindian civilizations by colleagues from those fields, which Leiden is so fortunate to have. The Faculty of Arts at Leiden University, houses a wide variety of language and culture studies of the world. The second approach focuses on interactions, mutual influences, and interculturalization processes in art and culture. And the third addresses methodical-theoretical reflection on art history in a global perspective. The aim here is to formulate a theoretical framework for the study of art worldwide, thereby pursuing ‘comparative art history’. In order to achieve these perspectives, exchanging ideas and concepts with anthropologists can be very productive.  相似文献

Evolutionary and ecological hypotheses of the freshwater mussel subfamily Ambleminae are intensely geographically biased—a consequence of the complete exclusion of Mesoamerican taxa in phylogenetic reconstructions of the clade. We set out to integrate a portion of the Mesoamerican freshwater mussel assemblage into existing hypotheses of amblemine classification and evolution by generating a molecular phylogeny that includes four previously unsampled Mesoamerican genera and nine species endemic to that region. Given the traditionally hypothesized affinity to Nearctic mussels and the understanding that classification should reflect common ancestry, we predicted that (a) Mesoamerican genera would be recovered as members of the recognized tribes of the Ambleminae, and (b) genera would be supported as monophyletic. The mutilocus phylogeny (COI + 28S + 16S) reported herein does not fully support either of those hypotheses. Neither Cyrtonaias nor Psorula were supported as monophyletic and we predict several other Mesoamerica genera are also non‐monophyletic. The reconstructed phylogeny recovered four independent lineages of Mesoamerican freshwater mussels and these clades are distributed across the phylogeny of the Ambleminae, including the tribe Quadrulini (Megalonaias), Lampsilini (two lineages: Cyrtonaias explicata/Sphenonaias microdon, and Pachynaias), and a previously unrecognized, exclusively Mesoamerican and Rio Grande clade consisting of the genera Psoronaias, Psorula and Popenaias. The latter clade possesses several morphological characteristics that distinguish it from its sister taxon, tribe Lampsilini, and we recognize this newly identified Mesoamerican clade as a fifth tribe of the Ambleminae attributable to the Popenaiadini Heard & Guckert, 1970. This revised classification more completely recognizes the suprageneric diversity of the Ambleminae.  相似文献

Cell line models aid in understanding cancer aggressiveness. The aim of this study was the establishment of a metastatic variant (T24M) of the T24 bladder cancer cell line and its initial characterization at chromosomal and proteomic levels. T24M were spontaneously developed in mice from T24 cells, following cycles of subcutaneous injections and culture in vitro. Transwell migration assays and injections in mice revealed increased migration and tumorigenic properties of T24M compared to the T24 cells. Cytogenetic analysis demonstrated that T24M retained several karyotypic characteristics of the parental cells and also acquired novel chromosomal aberrations related to aggressive bladder cancer. Proteomic analysis of the T24 and T24M cells by 2‐DE and MS led to the generation of their 2‐DE proteomic map and revealed differences in multiple proteins. These include proteases of the lysosomal and proteasome degradation pathways, mitochondrial and cytoskeletal proteins. The 2‐DE findings were confirmed by immunoblotting of cell lysates and immunohistochemistry of bladder cancer tissue sections for cathepsin D and activity assays for proteasome. Collectively, our results suggest that the T24M cells reflect many known chromosomal and proteomic aberrations encountered in aggressive bladder cancers but also provide access to novel findings with potentially clinical applications.  相似文献

Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) J1668 sporulated ectopically in the substrate hyphae (the Esp phenotype) with the same time course as sporulation in the aerial hyphae. Examination of related strains implied that the Esp phenotype was caused by the deletion of DNA that lies close to, but is distinct from, the glucose kinase gene ( glkA ). Co-transduction of the Esp phenotype with the deletion present in J1668 confirmed this hypothesis. The size of the deletion was found to be 7.4 kb. Construction of a strain carrying both the J1668 deletion and a whiG mutation demonstrated that the Esp phenotype depends on at least one of the genes required for the differentiation of aerial hyphae into spores.  相似文献
