Background
The ongoing epidemiological transition in Mexico minimizes the relative impact of neurocysticercosis (NC) on public health. However, hard data on the disease frequency are not available.Methodology
All clinical records from patients admitted in the Instituto Nacional de Neurologia y Neurocirugia (INNN) at Mexico City in 1994 and 2004 were revised. The frequencies of hospitalized NC patients in neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry services, as well as NC mortality from 1995 through 2009, were retrieved. Statistical analyses were made to evaluate possible significant differences in frequencies of NC patients'' admission between 1994 and 2004, and in yearly frequencies of NC patients'' hospitalization and death between 1995 and 2009.Principal Findings
NC frequency in INNN is not significantly different in 1994 and 2004. Between these two years, clinical severity of the cases diminished and the proportion of patients living in Mexico City increased. Yearly frequencies of hospitalization in neurology and psychiatry services were stable, while frequencies of hospitalization in neurosurgery service and mortality significantly decreased between 1995 and 2009.Conclusions
Our findings show a stable tendency of hospital cases during the last decade that should encourage to redouble efforts to control this ancient disease. 相似文献142.

did not indicate a connection between biological property of the RHD virus (haemagglutination capacity and generation of antigenic

PMCA1–4 isoforms have been recently recognised as regulators of various signalling pathways in mammalian cells. PMCAs were found to interact with calcineurin A in an isoform specific manner. In this study we focus on the interaction of calcineurin A with PMCA4 and its effect on catecholamine secretion in PC12 cells with reduced PMCA2 or PMCA3 content. Reduction of synthesis of PMCA2 or PMCA3 led to upregulation of PMCA4 manifested by preferential interaction of PMCA4 with calcineurin A. On the other hand, we observed a significant reduction of dopamine secretion, which did not correspond with an increased [Ca2+]c. This result indicates that the interaction of PMCA4 with calcineurin A plays a regulatory role in the signalling during catecholamine secretion. 相似文献

The template reaction between salicylaldehyde S-methyl-isothiosemicarbazone and 2-formylpyridine in presence of nickel(II) or copper(II) salts yields two new coordination compounds with general formula [NiL1]2(1) and [CuL2]2(2) (L1 = the dianionic (N1-salicylidene)(N4-(hydroxy(pyridin-2-yl)methyl) S-methyl-isothiosemicarbazide) ligand and L2 = the doubly deprotonated (N1-salicylidene)(N4-(picolinoyl) S-methyl-isothiosemicarbazide) ligand). In the complex 1, the formed L1 ligand appears as result of an addition reaction of the precursors, while for 2 a redox mechanism is implicated in the formation of L2. Despite the fact that the initial organic precursors are the same, the resulting ligands obtained in the template reaction are different. In 1, the Ni(II) metal ion adopts a square-planar geometry and the [NiL1] units are forming dimerized chains through weak Ni···Ni interactions (3.336 and 3.632 Å). In 2, the Cu(II) metal ions adopt a square-pyramidal geometry and form dinuclear species through weak Cu···O (phenoxo) interactions. The magnetic susceptibility measurements of the complexes reveal the diamagnetic nature of 1 as expected for a square planar Ni(II) complex and a paramagnetic behavior for 2 with weak intra-dimer antiferromagnetic interaction (J/kB = −2.1(1) K). 相似文献

The effects of TNF gene deletion on renal Na(+)-K(+)-2Cl(-) cotransporter (NKCC2) expression and activity were determined. Outer medulla from TNF(-/-) mice exhibited a twofold increase in total NKCC2 protein expression compared with wild-type (WT) mice. This increase was not observed in TNF(-/-) mice treated with recombinant human TNF (hTNF) for 7 days. Administration of hTNF had no effect on total NKCC2 expression in WT mice. A fourfold increase in NKCC2A mRNA accumulation was observed in outer medulla from TNF(-/-) compared with WT mice; NKCC2F and NKCC2B mRNA accumulation was similar between genotypes. The increase in NKCC2A mRNA accumulation was attenuated when TNF(-/-) mice were treated with hTNF. Bumetanide-sensitive O(2) consumption, an in vitro correlate of NKCC2 activity, was 2.8 ± 0.2 nmol·min(-1)·mg(-1) in medullary thick ascending limb tubules from WT, representing ~40% of total O(2) consumption, whereas, in medullary thick ascending limb tubules from TNF(-/-) mice, it was 5.6 ± 0.3 nmol·min(-1)·mg(-1), representing ~60% of total O(2) consumption. Administration of hTNF to TNF(-/-) mice restored the bumetanide-sensitive component to ~30% of total O(2) consumption. Ambient urine osmolality was higher in TNF(-/-) compared with WT mice (2,072 ± 104 vs. 1,696 ± 153 mosmol/kgH(2)O, P < 0.05). The diluting ability of the kidney, assessed by measuring urine osmolality before and after 1 h of water loading also was greater in TNF(-/-) compared with WT mice (174 ± 38 and 465 ± 81 mosmol/kgH(2)O, respectively, P < 0.01). The noradrenaline, serotonin and dopamine transporters are three main transporters, which are the target of the antidepressant drugs. In the present study we demonstrate that the life-long deletion of the noradrenaline transporter (NET) induced up-regulation of two other monoamine transporters, dopamine and serotonin (DAT and SERT, respectively). An increase in the binding of [3H]paroxetine to the SERT and [3H]GBR12935 to the DAT was observed in various brain regions of NET-KO mice, without alterations of mRNA encoding these transporters, as measured by in situ hybridization. This important finding impacts the interpretation of previous data indicating the supersensitizity of NET-KO mice for psychostimulants or stronger effect of citalopram in behavioral tests. While using the NET-KO mice in various psychopharmacological studies is very important, one has to be aware that these mice lack NET from the earliest period of their existence, thus compensatory alterations do take place and have to be considered when it comes to interpretation of the obtained results. 相似文献

12-Oxophytodienoic acid (OPDA) is isomerized in the gut of herbivorous insects to tetrahydrodicranenone B (iso-OPDA). The transformation is achieved by a glutathione S-transferase present in the gut epithelium. Experiments with 9-[(2)H]-iso-OPDA demonstrated the complete retention of the deuterium atom in the product 11-[(2)H]-OPDA consistent with an intramolecular 1,3-hydrogen shift. Homology modeling based on the x-ray structure of a glutathione S-transferase from Anopheles gambiae revealed that the co-factor glutathione does not covalently bind to the substrate but appears to be involved in the initial deprotonation and enolization of the OPDA. The transformation resembles that of a mammalian GST-catalyzed isomerization of Δ(5)-3-ketosteroids to Δ(4)-3-ketosteroids or the conversion of prostaglandin A(1) to the biologically inactive prostaglandin B(1). 相似文献
