Hexaploid tritordeum (HchHchAABB; 2n?=?42) results from the cross between Hordeum chilense (HchHch; 2n?=?14) and cultivated durum wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum (AABB; 2n?=?28). Morphologically, tritordeum resembles the wheat parent, showing promise for agriculture and wheat breeding. Start Codon Targeted (SCoT) polymorphism is a recently developed technique that generates gene-targeted markers. Thus, we considered it interesting to evaluate its potential for the DNA fingerprinting of newly synthesized hexaploid tritordeums and their respective parents. In this study, 60 SCoT primers were tested, and 18 and 19 of them revealed SCoT polymorphisms in the newly synthesized tritordeum lines HT27 and HT22, respectively, and their parents. An analysis of the presence/absence of bands among tritordeums and their parents revealed three types of polymorphic markers: (i) shared by tritordeums and one of their parents, (ii) exclusively amplified in tritordeums, and (iii) exclusively amplified in the parents. No polymorphism was detected among individuals of each parental species. Three SCoT markers were exclusively amplified in tritordeums of lines HT22 and HT27, being considered as polyploidization-induced rearrangements. About 70 % of the SCoT markers of H. chilense origin were not transmitted to the allopolyploids of both lines, and most of the SCoTs scored in the newly synthesized allopolyploids originated from wheat, reinforcing the potential use of tritordeum as an alternative crop. 相似文献

Ruthenium complexes have attracted much attention as possible building blocks for new transition-metal-based antitumor agents.
The present study examines the mitotoxic and clastogenic effects induced in the root tips of Allium cepa by cis-tetraammine(oxalato)ruthenium(III) dithionate {cis-[Ru(C2O2)(NH3)4]2(S2O6)} at different exposure durations and concentrations. Correlation tests were performed to determine the effects of the time
of exposure and concentration of ruthenium complex on mitotic index (MI) and mitotic aberration index. A comparison of MI
results of cis-[Ru(C2O2)(NH3)4]2(S2O6) to those of lead nitrate reveals that the ruthenium complex demonstrates an average mitotic inhibition eightfold higher
than lead, with the frequency of cellular abnormalities almost fourfold lower and mitotic aberration threefold lower. A. cepa root cells exposed to a range of ruthenium complex concentrations did not display significant clastogenic effects. Cis-tetraammine(oxalato)ruthenium(III) dithionate therefore exhibits a remarkable capacity to inhibit mitosis, perhaps by inhibiting
DNA synthesis or blocking the cell cycle in the G2 phase. Further investigation of the mechanisms of action of this ruthenium
complex will be important to define its clinical potential and to contribute to a novel and rational approach to developing

Background: Velopharyngeal incompetence is characterized by the inability to contract the tissues of the soft palate. The most common causes are neuromuscular problems resulting from concussion and degenerative conditions of the central nervous system. Materials and methods: The treatment using palatal lift prosthesis is well established in the literature; however, reports on the use of osseointegrated implants are scarce. Rehabilitation using only this type of fibromucosal support is difficult in edentulous patients, since the prosthesis has a palatal lift extension. Results: The implants provided retention and stability to the prosthesis, improving swallowing and speech and contributing to improve the patient’s quality of life. Conclusion: This article reports the rehabilitation of a patient with a totally edentulous maxilla with velopharyngeal incompetence using an implant‐retained palatal lift prosthesis. 相似文献

We evaluated expression of TLR2, TLR4 and proinflammatory genes [NF-κB, TNF-α, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2)] in liver samples of patients in different stages of liver disease. Fifteen patients with unexplained transaminases elevation (reference group), 22 with viral chronic hepatitis (hepatitis group), 14 with virus-induced severe fibrosis/cirrhosis (cirrhosis group) and 10 with hepatocarcinoma (hepatocarcinoma group) were consecutively included in the study. Quantification of TLR2, TLR4, NF-κB, TNF-α and COX-2 mRNA was done by real-time RT-PCR and TLR2 and TLR4 protein expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Compared with reference, TLR2 and TLR4 mRNA was increased in hepatitis (TLR2: 2.66?±?0.69; TLR4: 3.11?±?0.79; P?0.05) and cirrhosis (TLR2: 2.14?±?0.5; TLR4: 1.74?±?0.27; P?0.05) and decreased in hepatocarcinoma (TLR2: 0.48?±?0.15; TLR4: 0.54?±?0.10; P?0.05). This associated with increased TNF-α and COX-2 mRNA in hepatitis (TNF-α: 3.24?±?0.79; COX-2: 2.47?±?0.36; P?0.05) and cirrhosis (TNF-α: 1.73?±?0.28; COX-2: 1.8?±?0.35, P?0.05), whereas NF-κB mRNA was increased in hepatitis (2.42?±?0.31; P?0.05) and unchanged in cirrhosis (1.34?±?0.17; P?=?0.3). Hepatocarcinoma presented increased COX-2 mRNA (1.63?±?0.15; P?0.05) and maintained (at decreased levels) mRNA of NF-κB (0.52?±?0.12) and TNF-α (0.52?±?0.12; P?0.05, all genes). Immunohistochemistry confirmed increased expression of TLR2 and TLR4 in hepatitis and cirrhosis and maintained expression in hepatocarcinoma. two metals. At the higher end of Cd and Zn experimental concentration ranges, a significant reduction in cell density was
observed in the cultures; EC50 values, calculated after fitting a Weibull model to the experimental data, were 0.058 and 1.92 mg L−1 for Cd and 16.99 and 4.87 mg L−1 for Zn in the case of S. obliquus and D. pleiomorphus, respectively.
