Summary Immunocytochemical studies were performed to describe the characteristics of cell types and their distribution in the pars distalis of Japanese long-fingered bat, Miniopterus schreibersii fuliginosus, collected at various stages of the reproductive cycle. Six distinct cell types have been identified in the pars distalis by the unlabeled immunoperoxidase technique and by the ABC method. Growth hormone (GH) and prolactin (PRL) cells were immunostained with antisera against chicken GH and ovine PRL. The GH-immunoreactive cells were round or oval orangeophilic cells distributed throughout the pars distalis with prominent aggregation in the posterolateral region. The PRL cells were pleomorphic carminophilic cells that occurred in small groups within the central and dorsocaudal regions of the pars distalis. They were sparsely distributed in the central region of the pars distalis in the hibernating bats, but increased significantly in the pregnant and lactating bats. The adrenocorticotropic (ACTH) cells were large round or polygonal amphophilic cells in the rostroventral and ventrolateral regions of the pars distalis. The thyrotropic (TSH) cells were small rounded or polygonal and distributed mainly in the ventrolateral region of the pars distalis. Luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) cells were identified immunocytochemically with antisera against the specific beta subunits of ovine LH and rat FSH. There were two populations of LH and FSH cells, one aggregated in the zona tuberalis and the other scattered singly throughout the rest of the pars distalis. The aggregated cells were immunoreactive with both antisera directed to LH and FSH, while scattered cells were reactive solely with antiserum to either LH or FSH and exhibited seasonal variations. In females, the proportional volume of the pars distalis occupied by LH cells was significantly reduced during pregnancy and lactation. No evidence of involution was observed in pars distalis cells except for PRL cells in males or females during hibernation. 相似文献

Summary The effect of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on the basement membrane structure of chick embryonic skin cultured in a chemically defined medium (BGJb) containing 20 mM hydrocortisone, and EGF at 10, 50, or 100 ng/ml supplemented with 5% delipidized fetal calf serum, was examined by electron microscopy. During development of the epidermis in vitro, EGF (100 ng/ml) caused striking changes to occur in the basement membrane structure and in the keratinization process. The basement membrane frequently became discontinuous with many gaps apparent in section, and occasionally became folded following detachment from the basal surface of the epidermis and protruded into the underlying dermis. In the basal and intermediate cells of EGF-treated epidermis, tonofilament bundles were decreased in number, while desmosomes and hemidesmosomes revealed no significant changes in morphology. 相似文献

circulation, and in particular on the microcirculatory system, such that they are suggested for use in prophylaxis and prevention

negative ion producers may be a useful tool for both preventive and therapeutic purposes, as well as hygienic/domestic applications.
Systematic measurements ere taken of negative ions artificially produced in a confined space. The spatial distribution of
artificially-produced negative ions in a confined space is presented. Applications relative to artificial generators are also

A range of surfactants, including the anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate, the cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and the nonionics octylphenoxy polyethoxyethanol (Triton X100) and polyoxyethylene 20 sorbitan monoleate (Tween 80) was studied for effects on proliferation, contractibility and attachment of cultured human fibroblasts. Only ionic surfactants exhibited a stimulatory effect on fibroblast proliferation, whereas all the surfactants tested increased the contraction of collagen gels containing fibroblasts, with the greatest effect from the non-ionic surfactants. This activity was not correlated with an increase of cell population or cell attachment within the collagenous matrix. The activity of the surfactants was seen only at levels close to their LD50 values and in a narrow range of concentrations. Thus, we consider that they are the result of the so-called hormesis phenomenon.Abbreviations CTAB

r phosphotyrosine protein phosphatases have been isolated from rat liver. The enzymes were previously known as lowM
r acid phosphatases, but several recent studies have demonstrated that this family of enzymes possesses specific phosphotyrosine protein phosphatase activity. We determined the complete amino acid sequences of the two isoenzymes and named them AcP1 and AcP2. Both consist of 157 amino acid residues, are acetylated at the NH2-terminus, and have His as the COOH-terminus. The molecular weights calculated from the sequences are 18,062 for AcP1 and 17,848 for AcP2. They are homologous except in the 40–73 zone, where about 50% of residues are different. This fact suggests that the two isoenzymes are produced by an alternative splicing mechanism. There is no homology between these two isoenzymes and the receptor-like phosphotyrosine protein phosphatases LAR, CD45, human placenta PTPase 1B, and rat brain PTPase-1. AcP1 and AcP2 are also distinct from rat liver PTPase-1 and PTPase-2, since these last enzymes have higher molecular weights. AcP1 differs from AcP2 with respect to (1) substrate affinity and (2) its sensitivity to activators and inhibitors, thus suggesting a their different physiological function. 相似文献

The activity of phospholipid base exchange enzymes has been evaluated in cardiac sarcolemmal membranes from Syrian Golden
hamsters and from a hamster strain (UM-X7.1) characterized by a genetic form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. No choline base
exchange activity and only a little serine base exchange activity were detected, whereas the ethanolamine base exchange enzyme
was found highly active in membranes from both strains. For this reason, the present study is focussed on the ethanolamine
base exchange enzyme. The apparent Km for ethanolamine of ethanolamine base exchange enzyme from Syrian Golden membranes and
from UM-X7.1 strain membranes are 18 and 32 μM, respectively. The specific activity of the sarcolemmal ethanolamine base exchange
enzyme is lower in the UM-X7.1 strain than in Syrian Golden hamsters. The calcium-dependence of the enzyme appears different
when the membranes from the two strains are compared. Indeed, after removal of the membrane-bound divalent cations, comparable
activities are found in both membrane preparations, whereas, upon addition of Ca2+ to the incubation mixtures, the activity of the enzyme is enhanced in the membranes from Syrian Golden strain more than in
those from UM-X7.1 strain. The cholesterol content of sarcolemmal membranes is higher in the cardiomyopathic strain than in
the Syrian Golden hamsters. A possible relation between changes of the membrane lipid composition and of the ethanolamine
