Temporal information is an embedded feature of our sensory and motor experiences. How is temporal information encoded in the brain? In the two-stage theory of timing, an explicit representation of timing is responsible for the movement initiation while movement duration is coded implicitly. We investigated the correlation of movement duration and amplitude in a repetitive one-dimensional non-visually guided movement to find out if temporal information could be coded independently from movement. Subjects were asked to learn the distance between two points by moving their hands repeatedly along the distance between two sticks, while they could not see their hands and hand path. After a training phase, a delay of either 2 or 20 s was imposed and the subjects were asked to reproduce the learned distance. There was no correlation between distance difference and time difference in either delay condition. In the 20 s delay experiment, in comparison to the 2 s delay experiment, there was a significant increase in distance reproduction error. However, there was no significant change in time differences in either of the experiments. In addition, the time difference between the training and test trials was independent from the direction of the distance difference (i.e., overshot, undershot, or accurate). In conclusion, time may be coded as an independent measure after the delay period, so it should be a kind of explicitly coded information.  相似文献

Yellow rust caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. hordei is an important disease of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) in some parts of the world. We compared the effectiveness of different types of resistance in field plots at Ardabil Agricultural Research Station (Iran) during 2010–2011. Yield components along with slow rusting parameters including final rust severity (FRS), apparent infection rate (r), relative area under disease progress curve (rAUDPC) and coefficient of infection (CI) were evaluated for 25 barley cultivars. In all, two barley cultivars with race-specific resistance, 19 cultivars with different levels of slow rusting resistance and four susceptible cultivars were included in two experiments with and without fungicide protection under high disease pressure. Barley cultivars with slow rusting resistance displayed a range of severity responses indicating phenotypic diversity. Mean thousand kernels weight (TKW) losses for susceptible, race-specific and slow rusting genotypes were 31, 3 and 12%, respectively, and mean kernels per spike (KPS) losses for susceptible, race-specific and slow rusting genotypes were 19, 0.2 and 8%, respectively. Correlation coefficient of mean TKW and KPS losses with epidemiological parameters; rAUDPC, r, CI and FRS were highly significant. Slow rusting cultivars with low values of different parameters as well as genotypes with low yield component losses despite moderate disease levels were identified. Such genotypes can be used for breeding barely genotypes with high levels of resistance and negligible yield losses.  相似文献

This article draws on Islamic perspectives that conceive of visions (ru'yā) and nightmares (kābūs) as instances whereby Jamilā, a 13-year-old Syrian refugee girl in Brooklyn, New York, imagines and makes sense of the dead. She uses the Arabic words ma‘rwf (familiar) and gharīb (strange) to describe her dead elderly neighbour, Safiyya, in her visions and nightmares. Jamilā’s familiar-strange experiences imagine the dead both as good (the divine nature of death fundamental to Islamic values) and as evil (the pain and suffering of the departed). These familiar-strange feelings constitute an irresolvable uncertainty about death, shaping an imaginative space for Jamilā to be with Safiyya, who was like a mother to her. The manifestation of the dead consists of dynamic interpretations for the living. This results in a familiar-strange experience granted through the in-between space of what the philosopher Ibn ‘Arabī calls barzakh (‘obstacle’ or ‘separation’), which allows for an understanding of the departed as both blissful and suffering. The vernacular Arabic used by Jamilā in describing her familiar-strange experiences and the Islamic values upheld by her family underscore the importance of knowledge accumulated in the Islamic tradition for understanding the perception of loss and death for an adolescent Syrian refugee.  相似文献

We evaluated the activity of core-shell ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs@polymer shell) containing Oxaliplatin via polymerization through in vitro studies and in vivo mouse models of colorectal cancer. ZnO NPs were synthesized in situ when the polymerization step was completed by co-precipitation. Gadolinium coordinated-ZnONPs@polymer shell (ZnO-Gd NPs@polymer shell) was synthesized by exploiting Gd's oxophilicity (III). The biophysical properties of the NPs were studied using powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy, Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), field emission electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and z-potential. (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)−2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) (MTT) was used to determine the antiproliferative activity of ZnO-Gd-OXA. Moreover, a xenograft mouse model of colon cancer was exerted to survey its antitumor activity and effect on tumor growth. In the following, the model was also evaluated by histological staining (H-E; Hematoxylin & Eosin and trichrome staining) and gene expression analyses through the application of RT-PCR/ELISA, which included biochemical evaluation (MDA, thiols, SOD, CAT). The formation of ZnO NPs, which contained a crystallite size of 16.8 nm, was confirmed by the outcomes of the PXRD analysis. The Plate-like morphology and presence of Pt were obtained in EDX outcomes. TEM analysis displayed the attained ZnO NPs in a spherical shape and a diameter of 33 ± 8.5 nm, while the hydrodynamic sizes indicated that the particles were highly aggregated. The biological results demonstrated that ZnO-Gd-OXA inhibited tumor growth by inducing reactive oxygen species and inhibiting fibrosis, warranting further research on this novel colorectal cancer treatment agent.  相似文献

Providing “real blank sample” is a problem in determination of endogenous steroids in complex matrices. A new quantification strategy is proposed in the present study, which is based on using isotope-labeled steroids instead of natural steroids for constructing calibration line. This approach is called surrogate analyte and it is shown that its accuracy is better than some of the previously described methods at low concentrations and comparable to standard addition method at medium and high concentration levels. The method was fully validated to satisfy the ICH criteria and it was applied for determination of endogenous steroids in several urine samples.  相似文献

To study genetically and evaluate resistance to yellow rust, 29 wheat advanced lines were evaluated in randomised complete blocks design with three replicates in seedling stage under greenhouse conditions using nine races 6E150A+, 198E150A+, 134E150A+, 6E158A+, 166E150A+, 198E130A+, 166E158A+, 230E158A+ and 70E0A+, separately. In the adult plant stage, the genotypes were evaluated in two regions of Iran, Zarghan and Gorgan. The components of resistance including latent period and infection type were recorded under greenhouse conditions. Cluster analysis in all races showed that the genotypes 11, 28 and 29 were completely resistant to all races. Under Zarghan and Gorgan races, 27 and 73% of genotypes were resistant in the adult plant stage, respectively. Seven percent of genotypes were resistant in both stages, seedling and adult plant. All resistant lines can be used in plant breeding programme.  相似文献
