A high resolution analysis of G-band pattern of normal and aberrant chromosome 1 bearing two linked insertions of homogeneously staining regions (HSRs) in the house mouse (Mus musculus musculus) reveals an inverted pattern of the euchromatic region between the HSRs. On the basis of this analysis, a hypothesis on the causes for appearance of the aberrant chromosome was put forward: the double insertion is a result of inversion of the chromosome 1 of Mus musculus domesticus bearing a single long insertion. The proximal breakpoint is localized inside the HSR and the distal one--between subbands E3 and E4. From the point of view of these data, new symbols for the aberrations are proposed: Ls (HSR, 1C5) 1Icg--for the proximal insertion, Is(HSR, 1D)21cg--for the distal one, In (1) 1Icg--for the inverted region, including the bands D, E1-E3 and the insertion Is(HSR 1D)21cg.  相似文献

The results of the last (in the thermonuclear program “Magnetic compression”) MAGO-IX experiment with a plasma chamber including a third compartment designed to compress plasma with a converging liner are presented. An X-ray pulse consisting of an intense peak of 1-μs duration, followed by a low-intensity tail with a duration of more than 10 μs, was recorded. In the MAGO-IX experiment, the neutrons were generated mainly in the third compartment. A neutron yield of 2 × 1012 was obtained. The results demonstrate that the expected compression of preheated plasma in chambers similar to MAGO-IX is promising for achieving thermonuclear ignition.  相似文献

Anticompetitor traits such as the production of allelopathic toxins can confer significant competitive benefits but are often costly to produce. Evolution of these traits may be facilitated by environment‐specific induction; however, the extent to which costly anticompetitor traits are induced by competitors is not well explored. Here, we addressed this question using bacteriocins, which are highly specific, proteinaceous anticompetitor toxins, produced by most lineages of bacteria and archaea. We tested the prediction that bacteriocin production is phenotypically plastic and induced by the presence of competitors by examining bacteriocin production in the presence and absence of nonself competitors over the course of growth of a producing strain. Our results show that bacteriocin production is detectable only at high cell densities, when competition for resources is high. However, the amount of bacteriocin activity was not significantly different in the presence vs. the absence of nonself competitors. These results suggest that bacteriocin production is either (a) canalized, constitutively produced by a fixed frequency of cells in the population or (b) induced by generic cues of competition, rather than specific self/nonself discrimination. Such a nonspecific response to competition could be favored in the natural environment where competition is ubiquitous.  相似文献

Purified lipopolysaccharide of Escherichia coli produced specific antibody when injected intraperitoneally or given to rats orally. Either route of immunization did not prevent ascending pyelonephritis in a diabetic rat model. The use of purified LPS excludes the potential contribution of other virulence factors of E. coli as protective antigens in the prevention of ascending pyelonephritis and confirms that anti-lipopolysaccharide antibody is not protective for ascending pyelonephritis.  相似文献

We investigated a large Old Colony (Chortitza) Mennonite kindred with branches across Canada. Six generations of the kindred were traced. There was intermarriage among numerous family members. Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) was identified in 10 members; all 7 living patients were found to carry the immunogenetic marker HLA-DR4. Nine other close relatives had disorders of carbohydrate metabolism, including gestational diabetes mellitus and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus progressing to insulin use. Ten other relatives had autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism and multiple sclerosis. Cases of Alport''s syndrome, congenital malformations, inborn errors of metabolism and unusual malignant diseases were also found in the kindred. In the small Alberta community in which the kindred was ascertained there were people of Old Colony Mennonite descent with genetic conditions such as Gilles de la Tourette''s syndrome and congenital malformations, including congenital heart disease. This kindred represents the largest reported familial aggregation of IDDM. This disease and other disorders of carbohydrate metabolism occur in the context of a strong familial predisposition to autoimmune disease. Study of this family may permit empiric testing of proposed models of inheritance of diseases of complex origin such as IDDM. We report this Old Colony (Chortitza) Mennonite community because it is one of the settlements populated by this religious and genetic isolate, which extends across Canada and Central and South America and affords opportunities for the study of both common and rare inherited diseases.  相似文献
