One family, the Phlaeothripidae, is recognized in the suborder Tubulifera, whereas extant species of Terebrantia are classified into seven families: Uzelothripidae, Merothripidae, Aeolothripidae, Adiheterothripidae, Fauriellidae (stat. n.), Heterothripidae and Thripidae. A phylogenetic analysis of the relationships between these families is given, based on consideration of 35 imaginal characters; however, the relationships of Uzelothripidae and Phlaeothripidae to the rest of the Thysanoptera remain equivocal. The Phlaeothripidae are either derived independently from Protothysanoptera, or else are the sister-group of the Thripidae, the most specialized family of Terebrantia.
Diagnostic characters, diversity, distribution and relationships of each family are discussed. Keys to family and, in Fauriellidae, to genus are provided. Holarthrothrips Bagnall (= Adiheterothrips Ramakrishna, syn. n.) and Oligothrips Moulton are removed from Heterothripidae to Adiheterothripidae and Fauriella Hood, Opisthothrips Hood and Ropotamothrips Pelikan (= Osmanothrips Priesner, syn. n.) from Heteromripidae to Fauriellidae (stat. n.). These transfers leave Aulacothrips Hood, Heterothrips Hood and Scutothrips Stannard as the only genera in Heterothripidae.  相似文献

The response of isolated stolons cultured in vitro, to abscisicacid (ABA) has been studied in the presence and absence of kinetin(6-furfurylaminopurine). ABA alone in concentrations from 7.5x 10–4 mM to 7.5 x 10–2 mM, inhibited stolon elongationbut failed to promote tuber initiation. In the presence of kinetin,ABA at concentrations of 3.0 x 10–2 and 7.5 x 10–2mM markedly inhibited kinetin-induced tuber initiation and stolonelongation, but at 7.5 x 10–4 and 7.5 x 10–3 mMABA did not prevent tuber initiation. When stolons were incubated on a medium containing kinetin andlater transferred to one containing ABA with or without kinetin,the inhibitory effect of ABA decreased appreciably as the timeof incubation on kinetin is increased. The results are discussed in relation to the role of ABA inthe inhibition of nucleic acid and protein synthesis and theinteraction with cytokinins and the possible effect of ABA onkinetin uptake, transport and accumulation at the locus of action. SYNOPSIS. Acetate metabolism was studied in 2 strains of the green alga Pandorina morum. Both strains were capable of mixotrophic growth in the light, but only one strain was capable of heterotrophic growth in the dark. 14C-2-acetate uptake by both strains was studied in the light and dark, in the presence and absence of CO2 and 3(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (10?5M). The distribution of radioactivity incorporated into the insoluble, aqueous and chloroform soluble fractions of the cells was determined. The strain incapable of heterotrophic growth in the dark was found to incorporate very little acetate in the dark, and its ability to incorporate acetate into the insoluble fraction was severely limited under all conditions. Incorporation into the aqueous and chloroform-soluble fractions in the light was similar in both strains. The reduced incorporation into the insoluble fraction was almost totally the result of limited incorporation of acetate into polysaccharides by the obligate phototrophic strain.  相似文献

Abstract. Positron emission tomography (PET) has been utilized to obtain dynamic images of long distance nutrient translocation in plants. Positron emitting 18F, produced by a Van de Graaff accelerator using the reaction 18O(p,n)18F, was fed in solution to excised stems of Glycine max positioned vertically in a large-aperture PET detector system. Images of tracer activity were recorded with a time resolution of 0.5 min and a spatial resolution of 4 mm. Maximum tracer activities at stem sites were obtained within 3 min of the pulse feed. A model is presented enabling evaluation of regional values for tracer flow, tracer binding, flow speed and flow volume. Analysis of data for one stem position yielded a flow volume of 2.1mm3 min−1 and a flow speed of 36cm min−1. Comparison with the distribution of 14C-inulin, which was simultaneously fed to the cut stems, indicates the 18F is suitable for use as an apoplastic tracer; 92% of the tracer activity accumulated in the leaves. The fraction of 18F that remained bound was most concentrated at stem nodal regions, an observation consistent with the existence of transfer cells at these sites. Advantages and limitations of PET applied to plant physiological investigations are discussed.  相似文献

Background  

Host parasitism by Trichomonas vaginalis is complex. Adherence to vaginal epithelial cells (VECs) is mediated by surface proteins. We showed before that antisense down-regulation of expression of adhesin AP65 decreased amounts of protein, which lowered levels of T. vaginalis adherence to VECs. We now perform antisense down-regulation of expression of the ap33 gene to evaluate and confirm a role for AP33 in adherence by T. vaginalis. We also used an established transfection system for heterologous expression of AP33 in T. foetus as an additional confirmatory approach.  相似文献

1. The world's population is increasingly urban, and streams and rivers, as the low lying points of the landscape, are especially sensitive to and profoundly impacted by the changes associated with urbanization and suburbanization of catchments. 2. River restoration is an increasingly popular management strategy for improving the physical and ecological conditions of degraded urban streams. In urban catchments, management activities as diverse as stormwater management, bank stabilisation, channel reconfiguration and riparian replanting may be described as river restoration projects. 3. Restoration in urban streams is both more expensive and more difficult than restoration in less densely populated catchments. High property values and finely subdivided land and dense human infrastructure (e.g. roads, sewer lines) limit the spatial extent of urban river restoration options, while stormwaters and the associated sediment and pollutant loads may limit the potential for restoration projects to reverse degradation. 4. To be effective, urban stream restoration efforts must be integrated within broader catchment management strategies. A key scientific and management challenge is to establish criteria for determining when the design options for urban river restoration are so constrained that a return towards reference or pre‐urbanization conditions is not realistic or feasible and when river restoration presents a viable and effective strategy for improving the ecological condition of these degraded ecosystems.  相似文献
