We studied intraguild predation of Serangium parcesetosum on Eretmocerus mundus, both natural enemies of Bemisia tabaci, on eggplant under laboratory conditions. Fourth instar and adult predators attacked parasitized and unparasitized hosts equally if immature parasitoids were larvae, but avoided predating on parasitized hosts containing pupae.  相似文献

After the commercial cultivation of Ganoderma lucidum, that is becoming increasingly popular because of its valuable medicinal effects, a large amount of Ganoderma spent substrate (GSS) remains as a residual material. It is important to identify differences in the chemical compositions among GSS to indicate their suitability. This study was carried out to characterize and evaluate the substrates and GSS for the some chemical contents such as; pH, EC, organic carbon (C), total nitrogen (N), macro and micro elements and C:N ratios. The substrates were prepared by the mixtures of hornbeam and oak sawdust supplemented with wheat bran in a ratio of 20% (20WB) and tea manufacture waste in different ratios (10, 15, 20 and 25%). Organic C, C:N and pH values decreased in GSS, while N, P, K, Mg, Fe, Mn and Zn contents increased. EC and pH values of GSS varied between 1.13 and 2.33 dS m−1, and 5.14 and 5.69, respectively. GSS was found rich in all investigated mineral nutrients. The highest increases in all nutrient contents were generally determined in hornbeam sawdust with 20TW spent substrate. Initial mineral composition of the wastes influenced the mineral composition of the substrates and spent substrates.  相似文献

The protective role of two synthetic organoselenium compounds 1-isopropyl-3-methylbenzimidazole-2-selenone (SeI) and 1, 3-di-p-methoxybenzylpyrimidine-2-selenone (Sell) was examined against the 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)-induced changes in biochemical parameters in blood of rats. Albino Winstar rats (150-200 g body wt) were treated with single dose of DMBA (50 mg/kg body wt) and organoselenium compounds (25 micromol/kg) for 4 weeks at two days internal. Blood was taken from the anaesthetized rats ventricle from their hearts for biochemical analysis. Administration of DMBA resulted in elevation of urea, uric acid and creatinine levels as well as AST, ALT and LDH activities and decrease in levels of total proteins, albumin and globulin. SeI and SeII caused a significant (p<0.05) decrease in urea, uric acid and creatinine levels and alanine aminotransferase (ALT); aspartate aminotransferase; (AST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities and significantly increased the levels of total protein and albumin (p<0.05). These organoselenium compounds are likely to be beneficial in human health.  相似文献

The antimicrobial activity of the acetone, chloroform, diethyl ether, methanol, and petroleum ether extracts of the lichen Parmelia sulcata and its salazinic acid constituent have been screened against twenty eight food-borne bacteria and fungi. All of the extracts with the exception of the petroleum ether extract showed antimicrobial activity against Aeromonas hydrophila, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Listeria monocytogenes, Proteus vulgaris, Yersinia enterocolitica, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Penicillium notatum. Salazinic acid did not show antimicrobial activity against L. monocytogenes, P. vulgaris, Y. enterocolitica, and S. faecalis but showed activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhimurium as well. The MIC values of the extracts and the acid for the bacteria and fungi have also been determined.  相似文献

The apoptotic effect of heparin on the lymphoblasts obtained from 12 newly diagnosed children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) was investigated in vitro. The lymphoblasts were incubated with 0, 10, and 20 U/mL heparin concentrations at 0, 1, and 2 h. The percentages of the apoptotic lymphoblasts were calculated by flow cytometry (FCM), and activities of caspase-3 and -8 were simultaneously measured by fluorometric protease activity method. The apoptotic effect of heparin on the lymphoblasts was determined in 10 and 20 U/mL heparin concentrations (p < 0.005 and p < 0.001, respectively) while no apoptosis was detected in 0 U/mL heparin concentration at 0, 1, and 2 h. The apoptotic percentages of the lymphoblasts were higher at the first hour than those at 0 and 2 h in 10 and 20 U/mL heparin levels (p < 0.001). The highest apoptosis was found at first hour in 20 U/mL heparin concentration. Increased concentrations of heparin had an increasing effect on the percentages of the apoptotic lymphoblasts. Significantly higher caspase-3 and -8 activities were determined in 10 and 20 U/mL heparin concentrations than those in 0 U/mL heparin concentration at 0, 1, and 2 h (p < 0.001). There were no significant differences between the caspase-3 and -8 activities in 10 and 20 U/mL heparin concentrations at 1 and 2 h (p > 0.05), while statistically significant differences were simultaneously detected in the apoptotic rates of the lymphoblasts (p < 0.001). This may be due to that the study included the limited patients, or measurement of the caspase activities is a more sensitive method than the FCM analysis for determination of apoptosis because the activation time of the caspases takes a long time period. It was concluded that the apoptotic effect of heparin in vitro on lymphoblasts developed due to the extrinsic pathway of apoptosis via the caspase-3 and -8 activations in newly diagnosed ALL patients.  相似文献

Much evidence demonstrates the antinociceptive effect of magnetic fields (MFs). However, the analgesic action mechanism of the electromagnetic field (EMF) is not exactly understood. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of 5‐HT1 and 5‐HT2 receptor agonists (serotonin HCl and 2,5‐dimethoxy‐4‐iodoamphetamine [DOI] hydrochloride) on EMF‐induced analgesia. In total, 66 adult male Wistar albino rats with an average body mass of 225 ± 13 g were used in this study. The animals were subjected to repeated exposures of alternating 50 Hz and 5 mT EMF for 2 h a day for 15 days. Prior to analgesia tests, serotonin HCl (5‐HT1 agonist) 4 mg/kg, WAY 100635 (5‐HT1 antagonist) 0.04 mg/kg, DOI hydrochloride (5‐HT2 receptor agonist) 4 mg/kg, and SB 204741 (5‐HT2 antagonist) 0.5 mg/kg doses were injected into rats. For statistical analysis of the data, analysis of variance was used and multiple comparisons were determined by Tukey’s test. Administration of serotonin HCl MF (5 mT)‐exposed rats produced a significant increase in percent maximal possible effect (% MPE) as compared with EMF group (P < 0.05). On the contrary, injection of WAY 100635 to MF‐exposed rats produced a significant decrease in analgesic activity (P < 0.05). Similarly, the administration of DOI hydrochloride significantly increased % MPE values as compared with the EMF group while SB 204741 reduced it (P < 0.05). In conclusion, our results suggested that serotonin 5‐HT1 and 5‐HT2 receptors play an important role in EMF‐induced analgesia; however, further research studies are necessary to understand the mechanism. Filippi syndrome is a rare, presumably autosomal-recessive disorder characterized by microcephaly, pre- and postnatal growth failure, syndactyly, and distinctive facial features, including a broad nasal bridge and underdeveloped alae nasi. Some affected individuals have intellectual disability, seizures, undescended testicles in males, and teeth and hair abnormalities. We performed homozygosity mapping and whole-exome sequencing in a Sardinian family with two affected children and identified a homozygous frameshift mutation, c.571dupA (p.Ile191Asnfs6), in CKAP2L, encoding the protein cytoskeleton-associated protein 2-like (CKAP2L). The function of this protein was unknown until it was rediscovered in mice as Radmis (radial fiber and mitotic spindle) and shown to play a pivotal role in cell division of neural progenitors. Sanger sequencing of CKAP2L in a further eight unrelated individuals with clinical features consistent with Filippi syndrome revealed biallelic mutations in four subjects. In contrast to wild-type lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs), dividing LCLs established from the individuals homozygous for the c.571dupA mutation did not show CKAP2L at the spindle poles. Furthermore, in cells from the affected individuals, we observed an increase in the number of disorganized spindle microtubules owing to multipolar configurations and defects in chromosome segregation. The observed cellular phenotypes are in keeping with data from in vitro and in vivo knockdown studies performed in human cells and mice, respectively. Our findings show that loss-of-function mutations in CKAP2L are a major cause of Filippi syndrome.  相似文献

In this study, our objective was to evaluating the value of serum zinc levels as an etiologic and prognostic marker in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome. We conducted a prospective study, including 53 women with polycystic ovarian syndrome and 33 healthy controls. We compared serum zinc levels, as well as clinical and metabolic features, of the cases. We also compared serum zinc levels between patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome with insulin resistance. Mean zinc levels were found to be significantly lower in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome than healthy controls. Multiple logistic regression analysis of significant metabolic variables between polycystic ovarian syndrome and control groups (serum zinc level, body mass index, the ratio of triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and homocysteine) revealed that zinc level was the most significant variable to predict polycystic ovarian syndrome. Mean serum zinc levels tended to be lower in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome with impaired glucose tolerance than patients with normal glucose tolerance, but the difference was not statistically significant. In conclusion, zinc deficiency may play a role in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian syndrome and may be related with its long-term metabolic complications.  相似文献

Proteoglycan (PG) synthesis begins with the sequential addition of a “linker chain”, made up of four sugar residues, to a specific region of a core protein. Defects in the enzymes catalyzing steps two to four of the linker chain synthesis have been shown to cause autosomal recessive human phenotypes while no mutation has yet been reported in humans for the xylosyltransferases 1 and 2 (XT1 and XT2), the initiating enzymes in the linker chain formation. Here, we present a consanguineous Turkish family with two affected individuals presenting with short stature, distinct facial features, alterations of fat distribution, and moderate intellectual disability. X-rays showed only mild skeletal changes in the form of a short femoral neck, stocky and plump long bones and thickened ribs. Using a combination of whole-exome sequencing (WES), determination of homozygous stretches by WES variants, and classical linkage analysis, we identified the homozygous missense mutation c.C1441T in XYLT1, encoding XT1, within a large homozygous stretch on chromosome 16p13.12-p12.1. The mutation co-segregated with the phenotype in the family, is not found in over 13,000 alleles in the exome variant server and is predicted to change a highly conserved arginine at position 481 (p.R481W) located in the putative catalytical domain. Immunostaining of primary patient fibroblasts showed a loss of predominance of Golgi localization in mutant cells. Moreover, western blot analysis of decorin in cell culture supernatant demonstrated glycosylation differences between patient and control cells. Our data provide evidence that functional alterations of XT1 cause an autosomal recessive short stature syndrome associated with intellectual disability.  相似文献

Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is characterized by involuntary movements predominantly in the orofacial region and develops in approximately 20% of patients during long-term treatment with typical antipsychotics. The high prevalence of TD and its disabling and potentially irreversible clinical course is an important shortcoming for treatment with typical antipsychotics. The studies presented in this article evaluate the role of single nucleotide polymorphisms in dopamine D3 receptor (DRD3) and CYP1A2 genes for propensity to develop TD in patients with schizophrenia. In theory, a combined pharmacogenetic analysis of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic targets for antipsychotics should improve our ability to identify subpopulations that differ in drug safety profile. This information may in turn contribute to the design of more efficient clinical trials and thus expedite the development and regulatory approval of newer antipsychotic compounds.  相似文献
