A number of morphological, physiological and phenological traits have been suggested as significant markers of adaptation
to drought in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). This study was aimed at the identification of a relationship between dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR, EC 1.8.5.1) and
catalase (CAT, EC 1.11.1.6) activities in leaves of wheat plants and stability of yield components under water deficit. The
single chromosome substitution lines of cv. Chinese Spring carrying separate chromosomes from the donor Synthetic 6x, an artificial
hexaploid combining the genomes of the two wild species, Triticum dicoccoides (AABB) and Aegilops tauschii (DD), were the objects of the investigations. The activities of the DHAR and CAT were correlated with flag leaf relative
water content and two indexes of stability of grain yield components under drought across the set substitution lines. The
lines carrying a synthetic hexaploid homologous pair of chromosomes 1B, 1D, 2D, 3D or 4D all expressed a low constitutive
level of DHAR and the lines carrying chromosomes 3B, 1D, 2D and 3D a low constitutive level of CAT. All were able to increase
this level (by fourfold for DHAR and by 1.5-fold for CAT) in response to stress caused by water deficit. When challenged by
drought stress, these lines tended to be the most effective in retaining the water status of the leaves and preventing the
grain yield components from being compromised. The discovered genetic variability for enzymes activity in leaves of wheat

Background
Majority of influenza A viruses reside and circulate among animal populations, seldom infecting humans due to host range restriction. Yet when some avian strains do acquire the ability to overcome species barrier, they might become adapted to humans, replicating efficiently and causing diseases, leading to potential pandemic. With the huge influenza A virus reservoir in wild birds, it is a cause for concern when a new influenza strain emerges with the ability to cross host species barrier, as shown in light of the recent H7N9 outbreak in China. Several influenza proteins have been shown to be major determinants in host tropism. Further understanding and determining host tropism would be important in identifying zoonotic influenza virus strains capable of crossing species barrier and infecting humans.Results
In this study, computational models for 11 influenza proteins have been constructed using the machine learning algorithm random forest for prediction of host tropism. The prediction models were trained on influenza protein sequences isolated from both avian and human samples, which were transformed into amino acid physicochemical properties feature vectors. The results were highly accurate prediction models (ACC>96.57; AUC>0.980; MCC>0.916) capable of determining host tropism of individual influenza proteins. In addition, features from all 11 proteins were used to construct a combined model to predict host tropism of influenza virus strains. This would help assess a novel influenza strain's host range capability.Conclusions
From the prediction models constructed, all achieved high prediction performance, indicating clear distinctions in both avian and human proteins. When used together as a host tropism prediction system, zoonotic strains could potentially be identified based on different protein prediction results. Understanding and predicting host tropism of influenza proteins lay an important foundation for future work in constructing computation models capable of directly predicting interspecies transmission of influenza viruses. The effect of enhanced cytokinin synthesis due to expression of the ipt gene from Agrobacterium tumefaciens on plant tolerance to root flooding was studied. Transgenic wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants carrying the ipt gene were more tolerant to flooding than wild-type plants. The effect of transformation was manifested in the higher yield
and less growth inhibition during flooding. The measurements of activities of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase and
catalase, as well as MDA content during flooding revealed differences between wild-type and transgenic plants that correlated

Lipoxygenase (LOG) in protein fractions isolated from the leaves of substituted wheat lines was investigated. Three molecular forms of the enzyme were detected. A water deficiency caused the induction of a membrane-bound form (mLOG) and resulted in a decrease in the activity of "soluble" enzymes (s1LOG) and (s2LOG) in most genotypes. A correlation analysis demonstrated the dependence between the level of enzymatic activity and indices of resistance to drought. A genetic control of the s 1 LOG and s2LOG activity at an optimal water supply level was associated with chromosomes 1A, 1D, 3A, 5A, 5B, and 5D, while under the conditions of the modeled soil drought, it was associated with chromosomes 1B and 1D. 相似文献

In previous study it was shown that duration of tracheal forced expiratory noises is promising to reveal negative changes of lung function after dive. The objective is a study of parameters of tracheal forced expiratory noises in changed gas media. The first experiment involved 25 volunteers (22-60 years), performed forced exhalation under normal pressure with air, oxygen-helium and oxygen-krypton mixtures. The second experiment in the chamber involved 6 volunteers (25-46 years), which performed forced exhalation with air under normal pressure (0.1 MPa), and under elevated pressure 0.263 MPa with air and oxygen-helium mixture. In the first experiment the direct linear dependence on gas density was found for forced expiratory noises common duration in the band of 200-2000 Hz and for its durations in narrow 200-Hz bands, excluding high frequency range 1400-2000 Hz. In the second experiment a significant reversed dependence of high frequency durations and spectral energies in 200-Hz bands (1600-2000 Hz) on adiabatic gas compressibility. Individual dynamics of common duration of tracheal forced expiratory noises under model dive of 16.3 m (0.263 MPa) is more then the diagnostic threshold of this parameter for lung function decrease, previously obtained for divers under normal pressure. 相似文献

The influence of myelopeptides on differentiation of bone marrow haemopoietic precursors cells in thymectomized and normal mice has been studied in vivo. The introduction of myelopeptides decreased the number of erythroid (E) colonies and increased that of granulocytic ones (G).
