Chemical nature of the autoregulating factor d1 in Pseudomonas carboxydoflava

A chromatographically individual fraction with the biological activity of factor d1 was isolated from Pseudomonas carboxydoflava by the techniques of column and thin-layer chromatography. Alkyl hydroxybenzoles were shown to be the active principle of factor d1 inducing the transition of P. carboxydoflava vegetative cells into the hypometabolic or anabiotic state. As was found from the data of PMR, UV and IR spectroscopy and gas chromatography in combination with mass spectrometry, the active principle of factor d1 included alkylresorcins: 5-n-nonadecylresorcin and 5-n-heneicosylresorcin at a ratio of 1:3.     

Immunologically mediated induction of hyperlipoproteinemia

The relationship of immune and metabolic processes, particularly, those of lipid metabolism, was studied in mice with diet induced hyperlipoproteinemia, leukemia-related immune deficiency and in situ formation of antigen-antibody complexes after immunostimulation. A marked immunosuppression was observed in mice on a high-cholesterol diet, but when immune complex formation was induced after antigen injection, a high level of nonesterified cholesterol and low density lipoproteins was obtained, whereas an increase in high density lipoproteins in leukemic mice was observed. It is concluded that there exists a certain mechanism of immunologically mediated induction of hyperlipoproteinemia, which leads to the inhibition of immune response by immunoregulatory lipoproteins under conditions of antigen stimulation.

Cobra Venom Contains a Protein of the CRISP Family

Amino acid sequences of several fragments of the 25k protein (molecular mass 24 953 Da) previously isolated from cobra Naja kaouthia(Kukhtina et al., Bioorg. Khim., 2000, vol. 26, pp. 803–807) were determined. Their comparison with the primary structures of known proteins showed that the 25k protein belongs to the CRISP family and is the first protein of this type identified in cobra venoms.     

Clonal analysis of the development of the pigment epithelium of the eye in chimeric or/or----AKR mice

The development of cell clones was studied in the retinal pigment epithelium of chimaeric mice or/or----AKR. The clonal analysis suggests that on the 13th day of gestation the cells in the retinal pigment epithelium are distributed almost randomly while in the adults they are grouped in small coherent clones. In the retinal pigment epithelium the AKR cell predominated over the or/or cells. The interaction of mutant and normal clones during the eye development leads, in most cases, to the normalization of eyes in chimaeras. Cases of microphthalmia and asymmetry in distribution of clones suggest irregular and random distribution of these clones in the embryo.
