ObjectiveTo analyze electromyographic (EMG) patterns and isokinetic muscle performance of shoulder abduction movement in individuals who sustained a cerebrovascular accident (CVA).DesignTwenty-two individuals who sustained a CVA and 22 healthy subjects volunteered for EMG activity and isokinetic shoulder abduction assessments. EMG onset time, root mean square (RMS) for upper trapezius and deltoid muscles, as well as the isokinetic variables of peak torque, total work, average power and acceleration time were compared between limbs and groups.ResultsThe paretic side showed a different onset activation pattern in shoulder abduction, along with a lower RMS for both muscles (21.8 ± 13.4% of the maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) for the deltoid and 25.9 ± 15.3% MVIC for the upper trapezius, about 50% lower than the control group). The non-paretic side showed a delay in both muscles activation and a lower RMS for the deltoid (32.2 ± 13.7% MVIC, about 25% lower than the control group). Both sides of the group of individuals who sustained a CVA presented a significantly lower isokinetic performance compared to the control group (paretic side ~60% lower; non-paretic side ~35% lower).ConclusionsShoulder abduction muscle performance is impaired in both paretic and non-paretic limbs of individuals who sustained a CVA.  相似文献

PurposePreload of antagonist muscles can be achieved by reciprocal actions (RAs) or by opposing muscle actions. However, evidence concerning neuromuscular and fatigue responses are scarce.ObjectiveTo compare the effects of different knee flexor (KF) preload methods on knee extension (KE) vastus medialis muscle fatigue, based on EMG-spectral index (FI), load range (LR), total work (TW), blood lactate (LAC) and biceps femoris co-activation (BFc) during resistance exercise.MethodsTwenty-four healthy men (23.5 ± 3.6 yrs) performed three antagonist pre-load isokinetic exercises (4 sets, 10 repetitions, 60° s?1, 1 min rest between sets): RA (KF contraction immediately followed by KE); Superset (SS; one KF set immediately followed by one KE set); Multiple Set (MS; four KF sets followed by four KE sets).ResultsTotal work was significantly greater in RA. There was no significant decrease in LR between sets in RA. The BFc did not differ between protocols (p = 0.063). However, RA presented greater biceps femoriscoactivation. The FI was greater during SS compared to RA and MS (p < 0.05). The SS had greater LAC when compared to MS and RA (p = 0.005 and p = 0.007, respectively).ConclusionIt is suggested that the RA protocol is more neuromuscular and metabolic efficient during the performance of knee extension resistance exercise.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the influence of loading on a maxillary central incisor with the periodontal ligament (PDL) represented by 2D elastic beam elements using a 2D finite element analysis. Two models (M) were built varying the PDL representation: Mh (homogeneous PDL) and Mht (heterogeneous PDL with beam3 elements). Stress and displacements were determined for three loading conditions (L): Ll, lingual face loading at 45° with the tooth long axis; Li, perpendicular to the incisal edge; and Lip, on the incisal edge, parallel to the tooth long axis. Evaluation was performed on ANSYS software. Lip provided lower stress variation on the tooth and support structures when compared to Ll and Li. PDL's influence on stress values was lower for Lip. Oblique loading showed stress and displacement not observed in parallel loading condition through PDL's heterogeneous representation and it is probably incompatible with the in vivo condition.  相似文献

The cytoprotective effect of vinpocetine [14-ethoxycarbonyl-(3α,16α-ethyl)-14,15-eburnamine] was investigated on PC12 cells treated with the amyloid β-peptides (Aβ) for 24 hours. Vinpocetine was shown to protect cells from the inhibition in redox status induced by exposure to Aβ25–35 and Aβ1–40, the maximal protection being achieved at a vinpocetine concentration of 40 μM. At this concentration, vinpocetine blocked the inhibition of the mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes II–III and IV and completely abolished the depletion of pyruvate levels induced by toxic concentrations of Aβ peptides. Furthermore, the accumulation of ROS in cells exposed to Aβ25–35 and Aβ1–40 evaluated using the fluorescent probe 2′,7′-dichlorofluorescin (DCF), was reduced in the presence of 40 μM vinpocetine. Taken together, the data presented herein demonstrate that vinpocetine protects cells from Aβ toxicity, preventing the generation of oxidative stress due to the excessive accumulation of ROS. This study suggests that vinpocetine can exert neuroprotective properties which might be of importance and contribute to its clinical efficacy in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease or other neurodegenerative disorders in which oxidative stress is involved.  相似文献

Controlling the dissemination of malaria requires the development of new drugs against its etiological agent, a protozoan of the Plasmodium genus. Angiotensin II and its analog peptides exhibit activity against the development of immature and mature sporozoites of Plasmodium gallinaceum. In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of angiotensin II linear and cyclic analogs with anti‐plasmodium activity. The peptides were synthesized by a conventional solid‐phase method on Merrifield's resin using the t‐Boc strategy, purified by RP‐HPLC and characterized by liquid chromatography/ESI (+) MS (LC‐ESI(+)/MS), amino acid analysis, and capillary electrophoresis. Anti‐plasmodium activity was measured in vitro by fluorescence microscopy using propidium iodine uptake as an indicator of cellular damage. The activities of the linear and cyclic peptides are not significantly different (p < 0.05). Kinetics studies indicate that the effects of these peptides on plasmodium viability overtime exhibit a sigmoidal profile and that the system stabilizes after a period of 1 h for all peptides examined. The results were rationalized by partial least‐square analysis, assessing the position‐wise contribution of each amino acid. The highest contribution of polar amino acids and a Lys residue proximal to the C‐terminus, as well as that of hydrophobic amino acids in the N‐terminus, suggests that the mechanism underlying the anti‐malarial activity of these peptides is attributed to its amphiphilic character. The life cycle of vectors and the reservoirs that participate in the chain of infectious diseases have a strong relationship with the environmental dynamics of the ecosystems in which they live. Oscillations in population abundance and seasonality of insects can be explained by factors inherent in each region and time period. Therefore, knowledge of the relationship and influence of environmental factors on the population of Lutzomyia longipalpis is necessary because of the high incidence of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in Brazil. This study evaluates the influence of abiotic variables on the population density and seasonal behavior of L. longipalpis in an urban endemic area of VL in Brazil. The sand fly captures were performed every two months between November, 2009 and November, 2010 in the peridomicile of 13 randomly selected residences. We captured 1,367 specimens of L. longipalpis, and the ratio of male/female flies was 2.86:1. The comparison of the total male specimens in the two seasons showed a statistical difference in the wet season, but there was no significant difference when considering the total females. With respect to climatic variables, a significant negative association was observed only with wind speed. During periods of high wind speeds, the population density of this vector decreased. The presence of L. longipalpis was found in all months of the study with bimodal behavior and population peaks during the wet season.  相似文献

The potential of estuarine microniches as reservoirs of biosurfactant-producing bacteria was evaluated by testing different combinations of inocula and hydrophobic carbon sources. Selective cultures using diesel, petroleum, or paraffin as hydrophobic carbon sources were prepared and inoculated with water from the surface microlayer, bulk sediments, and sediment of the rhizosphere of Halimione portulacoides. These inocula were compared regarding the frequency of biosurfactant-producing strains among selected isolates. The community structure of the selective cultures was profiled using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) of the 16S rRNA gene fragments at the end of the incubation. The DGGE profiles corresponding to the communities established in selective cultures at the end of the incubation revealed that communities were different in terms of structural diversity. The highest diversity was observed in the selective cultures containing paraffin (H ' = 2.5). Isolates were obtained from the selective cultures (66) and tested for biosurfactant production by the atomized oil assay. Biosurfactant production was detected in 17 isolates identified as Microbacterium, Pseudomonas, Rhodococcus, and Serratia. The combination of estuarine surface microlayer (SML) water as inoculum and diesel as carbon source seems promising for the isolation of surfactant-producing bacteria. Mitotic chromosomes of 12 species of Catasetum were assessed to contribute with the karyotypic study of the subtribe Catasetinae (Orchidaceae), expanding the knowledge of this group in terms of chromosomes and supporting its taxonomic and evolutionary analysis. The species are maintained in cultivation in the greenhouse of the Department of Plant Biology/IB/UNICAMP and in the “Orquidário Frederico Carlos Hoehne” of the Botanical Garden of São Paulo. Chromosome counts ranged from 2n = 54 to 2n = 108. Karyotypes were prepared for all species studied, in which there was a predominance of metacentric chromosomes and some submetacentric ones. The chromosome size ranged from 0.5 to 4.9 μm, the total chromosome length ranged from 34.7 to 78.7 μm and the asymmetry index TF% ranged from 21.2 to 42.3. The results obtained so far favor the taxonomy of the genus, allowing to distinguish species with very similar external morphology.  相似文献

The analysis on nine inventories on the richness and diversity of galling herbivores in Brazil accounted for 806 gall systems occurring in 443 host-plant species from 74 plant families. This checklist of the Brazilian gall morphotypes proposes seven standardized morphotypes and five additional shapes that group the majority of the three-dimensional shapes reported in literature. Criteria are proposed to standardize the terminology, and a critical analysis is provided aiming to avoid possible inconsistencies in order to generate easily comparable data in future inventories. The morphotypes are herein catalogued in alphabetical order, accompanied by a conceptual definition, an illustration, and examples that best represent the shape. It is proposed that the inventories should present at least the (1) host-plant species, (2) galling herbivore species or its identification to the lowest possible taxonomic level, (3) host-plant galled organ and gall position, (4) gall morphotype, (5) gall color and registration of indumentum when present, (6) gall phenological and developmental data, (7) association with other trophic levels, and (8) additional information, such as dimension, and number of chamber(s).  相似文献

Abstract

Ribosylation reactions of previously silylated 3-carbethoxy-8-methyl-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline (6a) and 3-carbethoxy-6-methyl-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline (6b) with 1-O-acetyl-2,3,5-tri-O-benzoyl-β-D-ribofuranose (7), under Lewis acid catalysis, were studied. The method using hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS)/trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) mixture for silylation and anhydrous stannic chloride as catalyst for ribosylation failed to give any nucleoside product. On the other hand, the protected nucleoside 3-carbethoxy-6-methyl-1-(2,3,5-tri-O-benzoyl-β-D-ribofuranosyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline (8b) was obtained in good yields using bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA) containing 1% of TMCS and the same catalyst. Compound 8b was more easily isolated in higher yields with an improvement of the later method by replacing stannic chloride with trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TMSOTf).

De-O-benzoylation of 8b with methanolic sodium hydroxide solution afforded the free riboside 3-carbomethoxy-6-methyl-1-β-D-ribofuranosyl-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline (9b). The structures of the obtained products were confirmed by their LTV, MS, IR, 1H and 13C-NMR data.  相似文献
