Spatiotemporal testing and modeling of catfish retinal neurons.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1       下载免费PDF全文
The responses of retinal neurons depend on the interaction of both temporal and spatial aspects of a light stimulus. We developed a linear spatiotemporal model of receptor and horizontal cell layers in the catfish retina based on reciprocal interactions between both layers and coupling within each. Horizontal cell transfer properties were measured experimentally using white-noise intensity modulated light spots of different diameters and were compared with analytical predictions based on the model. Good agreement was obtained with a reasonable choice of model space-constants and feedback parameters. Furthermore, the same set of parameter values determined from spot experiments enabled accurate prediction of experimental horizontal cell responses to traveling gratings. The proposed feedback connections from horizontal cells to receptors quicken the time-course of responses in both layers and sharpen receptive fields.  相似文献

LyM-1 is the provisional designation given to a system of murine cell-surface alloantigens which are controlled by genes closely linked to those of theMls system. Formal genetic analysis has failed to disclose separation of genes determiningMls and LyM-1 antigens, but studies of the distribution of these antigens among inbred strains shows that the LyM-1 polymorphism is not primarily responsible for the MLR activity associated with Mls differences, and suggests that LyM-1 and Mls substances are products of genes at closely linked, but probably separate loci. Absorption analysis shows that strains whose cells react with anti-LyM-1.2 can be divided into at least two classes on the basis of the efficiency with which their cells remove anti-LyM-1.2 antibodies. This provides evidence for the existence of two LyM-1 alleles in addition to the one(s) possessed by nonreactive mouse strains.  相似文献

High (H/s) and low (L/s) antibody responder lines of mice selected according to their response to the somatic (s) antigen of Salmonella (Selection IV) have unexpected inverse capacity for antibody production to rabbit gamma globulin (RGG): H/s mice are low or even nonresponders to this antigen, whereas L/s mice are high responders. It was shown that the phenotypic variability within each line is due to environmental factors. RGG was a selection antigen in Selection V; the high (H/p) and low (L/p) responder mice are therefore considered as homozygous for the RGG genes. Responsiveness to RGG was investigated in F1 and F2 hybrids obtained by crossing the phenotypically similar RGG responder or nonresponder mice of Selections IV and V. The results support the hypothesis that the same genes control the response to RGG in L/s and H/p lines as well as in H/s and L/p lines. This means that the genes specific for RGG responsiveness were independent from those regulating responses to the s antigen. Unaffected by the selective breeding in Selection IV, they have been fixed by chance in an inverse way in H/s and L/s lines.  相似文献

Ruthenium red was found to inhibit actin-activated myosin Mg(2+)-ATPase in smooth muscle and to bind to myosin heavy chain, but not to F-actin. The inhibition by Ruthenium red of actin-activated Mg(2+)-ATPase was of the competitive type with respect to actin (Ki 4.4 microM) and of the non-competitive type with respect to ATP (Ki 6.6 microM). However, Ruthenium red scarcely dissociated the acto-heavy meromyosin complex during the ATPase reaction. These results suggest that Ruthenium red interacts directly with the binding site for F-actin on the myosin heavy chain. This site is considered to be necessary not for maintaining the binding affinity of myosin for F-actin, but for activation of the Mg(2+)-ATPase.  相似文献

He-T sequences are a complex repetitive family of DNA sequences in Drosophila that are associated with telomeric regions, pericentromeric heterochromatin, and the Y chromosome. A component of the He-T family containing open reading frames (ORFs) is described. These ORF-containing elements within the He-T family are designated T-elements, since hybridization in situ with the polytene salivary gland chromosomes results in detectable signal exclusively at the chromosome tips. One T-element that has been sequenced includes ORFs of 1,428 and 1,614 bp. The ORFs are overlapping but one nucleotide out of frame with respect to each other. The longer ORF contains cysteine-histidine motifs strongly resembling nucleic acid binding domains of gag-like proteins, and the overall organization of the T-element ORFs is reminiscent of LINE elements. The T-elements are transcribed and appear to be conserved in Drosophila species related to D. melanogaster. Summary We have characterized the nuclear geneNAM8 inSaccharomyces cerevisiae. It acts as a suppressor of mitochondrial splicing deficiencies when present on a multicopy plasmid. The suppressed mutations affect RNA folding and are located in both group I and group II introns. The gene is weakly transcribed in wildtype strains, its overexpression is a prerequisite for the suppressor action. Inactivation of theNAM8 gene does not affect cell viability, mitochondrial function or mitochondrial genome stability. TheNAM8 gene encodes a protein of 523 amino acids which includes two conserved (RNP) motifs common to RNA-binding proteins from widely different organisms. This homology with RNA-binding proteins, together with the intronic location of the suppressed mitochondrial mutations, suggests that the NAM8 protein could be a non-essential component of the mitochondrial splicing machinery and, when present in increased amounts, it could convert a deficient intron RNA folding pattern into a productive one.  相似文献

Exogenous human interferon 2 (IFN) and 2–5 oligoadenylates (2–5A) have been shown to cause at least a dual physiological effect in tobacco and wheat: (i) increased cytokinin activity and (ii) induced synthesis of numerous proteins, among which members of two groups of stress proteins have been identified, namely pathogenesis-related (PR) and heat shock (HS) proteins. These effects were observed only by low concentrations of these substances: IFN at 0.1–1 u/ml and 2–5A at 1–10 nM.  相似文献
