Purpose

To compare the visual performance of multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) and monofocal IOLs made of the same material.

Methods

The subjects included patients implanted with either Tecnis® monofocal IOLs (ZA9003 or ZCB00) or Tecnis® multifocal IOLs (ZMA00 or ZMB00) bilaterally. We conducted a retrospective study comparing the two types of IOLs. The multifocal group included 46 patients who were implanted with Tecnis® multifocal IOLs bilaterally. The monofocal group was an age- and sex-matched control group, and included 85 patients who were implanted with Tecnis® monofocal IOLs bilaterally. Lens opacity grading, the radius of corneal curvature, corneal astigmatism, axial length and the refractive status were measured preoperatively. Pupil size, ocular aberrometry, distance, intermediate and near visual acuity, contrast sensitivity with and without glare and the responses to a quality-of-vision questionnaire were evaluated pre- and postoperatively.

Results

The uncorrected near visual acuity was significantly better in the multifocal group, whereas both the corrected intermediate and near visual acuity were better in the monofocal group. Contrast sensitivity (with and without glare) was significantly better in the monofocal group. The rate of spectacle dependency was significantly lower in the multifocal group. There were no significant differences between the two groups regarding most items of the postoperative quality-of-vision questionnaire (VFQ-25), with the exception that the patients in the monofocal group reported fewer problems with nighttime driving.

Conclusions

The multifocal IOLs used in this study reduced spectacle dependency more so than monofocal IOLs and did not compromise the subjective visual function, with the exception of nighttime driving.  相似文献

Ebp2p is essential for the assembly of 60S ribosomal subunits, and it interacts with other ribosome assembly factors in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Two-hybrid screening exhibited that Ebp2p interacted with a small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO)-ligase Siz2p and SUMO-related proteins, Ris1p and Wss1p. Mutations of SUMO attachment sites of Ebp2p led to significantly weak interactions with Siz2p, Wss1p, and Ris1p, whereas they exhibited positive interactions with ribosome assembly factors. A SUMO-binding motif of Ris1p was required for interaction with Ebp2p. These results suggest that SUMO mediates the interaction between Ebp2p and SUMO related proteins and that Ebp2p switches its interaction partners via sumoylation.  相似文献

The effects of dietary fat and protein levels on the conversion of Trp-Nam were investigated. In rats fed with 20% casein diets, the Trp-Nam conversion ratio [(urinary excretion of Nam + MNA + 2-Py + 4-Py in μmol/day)/(daily Trp intake during urine collection in μmol/day) × 100] was about 4.3% for the groups fed with the 20% corn oil and 20% soybean oil diets, 2.8% for the group fed with the 20% lard diet, and 2.1 % for the group fed with the no fat diet. In rats fed with 40% casein diets, a similar phenomenon was observed, but the ratios were 2.0%, 2.4%, 1.6%, and 0.8% for the groups fed with the 20% corn oil, 20% soybean oil, 20% lard, and no fat diets, respectively. From these results, it was found that an increase in fat intake elevated the conversion ratio regardless of the dietary protein level, while an increase in protein intake reduced it.  相似文献

Metabolites from salicylic acid by microorganisms were investigated. About eighty strains of bacteria which were able to utilize salicylic acid as a sole source of carbon were isolated from soil and other natural sources.

Among these bacteria, several strains produced a large amount of keto acids in the culture fluid during the cultivation. The acid was isolated from the culture fluid of strain K 102 in crystalline form. The crystal was identified as α-ketoglutaric acid by physicochemical methods. From the taxonomical studies, the isolated bacterial strains K 102 and K 362 were assumed to be Pseudomonas sp.  相似文献

The biological effects of raw winged bean seeds were investigated with feeding experiments on rats, and the effects of lectin (phytohemagglutinin) present in the seeds are discussed. Administration of a 30% raw winged bean diet caused strong growth depression in young rats, and led to death within 10 ~ 20 days, inducing severe damage to the small intestine of the rats. Significant morphological changes of the intestinal mucosa were observed with a microscopic investigation. As the lethal effect was eliminated by autoclaving but not removed with supplementation of 0.5% l-methionine to the raw winged bean diet, the lectin was assumed to be closely related to the deleterious effects of raw winged bean. In vitro and in vivo digestion tests of the lectin revealed that the winged bean lectin had resistance to peptic, pancreatic and membrane digestions. The hemagglutinating activity was also detected in the intestinal mucosa and faeces from rats ingesting the raw winged bean or its purified lectin. The binding action of lection to mucosal epitheliums of the gastrointestinal tract is suggested to be the initial step of the deleterious effects induced by the winged bean lectin.  相似文献

Summary The present electron microscopical study is concerned with the simultaneous visualization of messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and its encoded protein in the same specimen. Pre-embedding electron microscopicalin situ hybridization (EM-ISH) on rat pituitary gland tissue localized growth hormone mRNA in the polysomes of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, and subsequent postembedding immunolabelling using protein A-colloidal gold particles identified growth hormone mainly in the secretory granules. We believe that our report provides the first simultaneous ultrastructural identification of mRNA and its encoded protein using combined pre-embedding EM-ISH and immunohistochemistry. In this method, the signals for mRNA were localized specifically as highly electron dense products on the polysomes of the endoplasmic reticulum, and those for its encoded protein were recognized as gold particles both in the cisternae of the reticulum and in the secretory granules. Our ultrastructural double labelling method for mRNA and protein may provide a tool to find important clues for elucidating the intracellular correlation of mRNA translation and secretion of translated protein, because of its high resolution, good morphological preservation, and the specific localization of the reaction products.  相似文献

Monoamine contents were measured in the cervical spinal cord of patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA) by high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection. The concentrations of noradrenaline (NA) and its metabolite 4-methyl-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG) were highest in ventral horn compared with other regions of the spinal cord in controls. Both NA and MHPG contents were reduced in all regions in 4 MSA patients. But in one case (case 5), which did not show an autonomic dysfunction, NA as well as MHPG level was similar to controls. Similarly, the concentrations of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and its metabolite 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) were highest in ventral horn and reduced in all regions in 4 MSA patients who showed mild motor weakness. In one case (case 5), which revealed clinical motor weakness associated with fasciculation and areflexia and pathological degeneration of ventral horn, 5-HT content showed higher values than controls whereas the 5-HIAA level was lower than controls. These results probably indicate that the cell loss of supraspinal monoaminergic nuclei may be one of the causes responsible for neurological dysfunction such as autonomic failures and motor weakness in MSA.  相似文献

In a previous study, we demonstrated the presence of a position-specific antigen (AV-1) in chick limb buds at an early developmental stage. Here, we reported the temporal and spatial expressions and the biochemical characterization of the AV-1 antigen. Indirect immunofluorescence staining and immunoblot analysis clearly showed that the AV-1 antigen is a glycoprotein that is localized on the plasma membrane and that it is expressed from stage 19 and highly expressed at stages 22-26 in some middle-distal to anterior-distal region of limb buds. In the wing bud, at stage 28, the AV-1 antigen was faintly detected in the restricted space between the precartilaginous regions of the radius and the ulna, and those of the metacarpals 2 and 3, but not those of the metacarpals 3 and 4. Such stage-specific and "position-specific" expressions of the AV-1 antigen in limb buds strongly suggest that the AV-1 antigen or cells containing it are involved in determination of the limb pattern formation.  相似文献
