Substance "P" (SP) and its derivatives inhibited activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) in human blood serum, I50 for SP was 31 microM. The same results were obtained for N-terminal fragments of the SP molecule: Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro and Lys-Pro. The C-terminal heptapeptide and the dipeptide Arg-Pro negligibly inhibited ACE activity. A possible significance of the interaction between SP and ACE in the regulation of the microhemodynamics is discussed. 相似文献

Summary Several polar continental air masses intruding into the south Florida/northern Bahama Bank region during January 1981 caused record low air temperatures and rapid chilling of extensive shallow-water carbonate systems. Numerous coral kills along the Florida reef tract and massive fish mortalities in Florida Bay were attributable to unusually cold waters generated at this time. Thermal evolution of Florida Bay/Florida reef tract and northern Bahama Bank waters from 8 to 21 January was assessed from thermal infrared data acquired by the NOAA-6 environmental satellite, in situ water temperatures, local meteorological data, and a computerized heat flux model. Field observations and laboratory experiments identify 16°C as a thermal stress threshold for most reef corals (Mayor 1915; Davis 1981). Temperaturecorrected digital satellite data indicated that water temperatures below 16°C were generated in Florida Bay and on Little and Great Bahama Banks during a 10-day period in January. Lowest temperatures on the Florida reef tract resulted from offshelf transport of Florida Bay water through major tidal channels. Offshelf movement of bay water is driven primarily by strong northerly winds, density gradients, and tidal pumping. Absence of reef development opposite major tidal passes along the Florida reef tract (Ginsburg and Shinn 1964) and aperiodic coral kills along bank margins can be attributed to this process, which has probably had a limiting influence on Holocene reef development in these areas. 相似文献

The selective 5-hydroxytryptamine2-(5-HT2)-receptor-blocking agent ketanserin was given in a dose of 10 mg intravenously to nine patients with Raynaud''s phenomenon. The effect on blood flow was assessed by photopletysmography and measurments of skin temperature. Digital blood flow and skin temperature increased significantly after ketanserin injection, whereas the placebo (saline 9 g/l) had no such effect. A new model for population growth as a branching process is described. It requires knowledge of the population's age-specific survivorship and fecundity curves. The total population size at any time is calculated by summing across all branches of the tree representing the population's lineage and thus the model also allows the lineage of the developing population to be traced. Use of the model is demonstrated by a hypothetical example. The model could be of particular value in tracing the phylogenetic development of populations and/or species. 相似文献

Cytochrome P-450 is destroyed during catalytic oxidation of several 4-substituted 3,5-bis(ethoxycarbonyl)-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine substrates. A qualitative correlation has been found between the ability to destroy cytochrome P-450 and the stability of the 4-substituent as a radical. Destruction of the enzyme by the 4-ethyl (DDEP), 4-propyl, and 4-isobutyl analogues is due to transfer of the 4-alkyl group from the substrate to a nitrogen of the prosthetic heme, a process which gives rise to isolable N-alkylprotoporphyrin IX derivatives. Little enzyme destruction is observed when the 4-alkyl group is of low radical stability (methyl, phenyl) and good destruction, but no isolable heme adducts when the 4-substituent is of very high radical stability (isopropyl, benzyl). Spin-trapping studies have established that the 4-ethyl group in DDEP is lost as a radical as a result of oxidation by cytochrome P-450. Of three commonly used spin traps, only alpha-(4-pyridyl-1-oxide) N-tert-butylnitrone was found suitable for such studies. The other spin traps, 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline-N-oxide and alpha-phenyl N-tert-butylnitrone, were found to be ineffective, the latter because it strongly inhibits cytochrome P-450. Hydrogen peroxide formed in situ can support a part of the cytochrome P-450-catalyzed ethyl radical formation and DDEP-dependent self-inactivation. The results provide persuasive evidence that oxidation of the nitrogen in DDEP by cytochrome P-450 proceeds in one-electron steps. Cytochrome P-450 may thus function, at least with certain substrates, as a one-electron oxidant. 相似文献
