Non-long terminal repeat (non-LTR) retrotransposons have contributed to shaping the structure and function of genomes. Fungi
have small genomes, usually with limited amounts of repetitive DNA. In silico approach has been used to survey the non-LTR
elements in 57 fungal genomes. More than 100 novel non-LTR retrotransposons were found, which belonged to five diverse clades.
The present survey identified two novel clades of fungal non-LTR retrotransposons. The copy number of non-LTR retroelements
varied widely. Some of the studied species contained a single copy of non-LTR retrotransposon, whereas others possessed a
great number of non-LTR retrotransposon copies per genome. Although evolutionary relationships of most elements are congruent
with phylogeny of host species, a new case of possible horizontal transfer was found between Eurotiomycetes and Sordariomycetes.

A metallocarboxypeptidase produced by Streptomyces bikiniensis 27 strain (VKPM Ac-1783) (CPSb) was purified and characterized. The enzyme cleaves both basic and hydrophobic C-terminal
amino acid residues from synthetic peptides, that is, it possesses specificity of mammalian carboxypeptidases A and B. The
enzyme also hydrolyzes peptides bearing glutamic acid at the C-end. CPSb exhibits its maximal activity at pH 7.0–7.6 and 55°C.
The nucleotide sequence encoding the mature CPSb in S. bikiniensis 27 (VKPM Ac-1783) genome (Accession No. GU362077) was determined. It is shown that the primary structure of the mature enzyme
has a moderate degree of identity with orthologs from Streptomyces griseus (79% identity) and Streptomyces avermitilis (85% identity). 相似文献

To understand why the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) has different potentials for neural differentiation in lower and higher
vertebrates, the RPEs of adult newts and rats were compared under similar in vitro cultivation conditions. The RPEs of both
animal species were organotypically cultivated within the posterior eye wall under constant rotation in the serum medium free
of growth factors. Comparison of the cell morphology, proliferation, and expression of pan-neural markers demonstrated that
the RPE cells of adult newts and rats under similar in vitro conditions displayed both similarities and differemces. They
were able to synthesize DNA but rarely divided mitotically. In addition, part of the RPE cells of both the newt and the rat
were dislodged from the layer, migrated, and acquired a macrophage phenotype. However, the majority of the cells retained
the initial morphology and remained within the layer. In several cases, these cells displayed the initial characteristics
of neural differentiation, namely, expression of pan-neural proteins. The difference between the newt and rat RPE cells was
in the ability of the former to generate in vitro an additional row of dedifferentiated NF-200-positive cells, characteristic
of in vivo newt retinal regeneration. These data demonstrate that the RPE cells of the adult newt and rat retain the potential
of manifesting neural cell traits; however, more advanced changes towards differentiation are characteristic of only the newt

The responses to flashing single light bars of different orientation and to cruciform images (CI) were compared in 9 neurons of the cat striate cortex possessing high specific sensitivity to CI, during local adaptation of various receptive field (RF) zones. In most neurons, a two- to threefold reduction in the response to CI with a constantly present bar of optimum or orthogonal orientation, if compared with a response to the figure consisting of two flashing bars, was found. Responses to the CI including an adaptation bar were often increased, if compared with those observed at usual orientation tuning. The results obtained show the essential changes in functional state of hepatocyte's plasmatic membrane due to the implantation of human ApoA1 gene to the rat liver. The changes in phospholipid composition, hyperpolarization, increase in activity of membrane bound enzymes, cytochrome P-450 and biosynthesis of liver total proteins have been found. Some physicochemical properties of glycoglycerolipids (monogalactosyldiacylglycerol, digalactosyldiacylglycerol and sulfoquinovosyldiacylglycerol) from the sea algae Laminaria japonica, as well as their ability to become incorporate into immunostimulating complexes (ISCOMs), used as a delivery system of microbial and tumor antigens in vesicular form, were studied. These glycolipids were found to differ essentially in fatty acid composition, unsaturation index and thermotropic behavior. The possibility of ISCOM modification by embedding the glycolipids studied instead of a phospholipid component in vesicles was shown. A preliminary research of the immunogenicity of the pore-forming protein from Yersinia pseudotuberculosis in modified (by monogalactosyldiacylglycerol) and typical (egg phosphatidylcholine) ISCOMs did not reveal a significant enhancement of immune response in comparison with that of isolated protein. 相似文献

Behavior of 86 rats was examined in three behavioral tests, i.e., open field, forced swimming and emotionality by F. King. The results of statistical analysis of all the indices obtained with application of factor analysis suggest that the three tests characterize four relatively independent behavioral components: emotionality, locomotor-exploratory activity, olfactory performance, and resistance to adverse emotional factors. A contribution of each measured parameter to the above components was estimated. Such an approach makes it possible to reasonably select most important behavioral features when estimating locomotor activity and emotionality of animals. 相似文献

In etiolated seedlings of Pisum sativum and leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana, in vivo ethylene treatment resulted in an increase in in vitro phosphorylation of 17 kD (P. sativum) or 16 and 17 kD (A. thaliana) polypeptides. These polypeptides were identified as nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK) based on both biochemical properties and interaction with antibodies against NDPK from P. sativum. Using the receptor-directed antagonist of ethylene action 2,5-norbornadiene and the ethylene-insensitive mutants of A. thaliana etr1-1 and eti5, ethylene specificity and receptor dependence of NDPK phosphorylation have been demonstrated. In pea epicotyls, ethylene treatment also led to increase in nucleoside transferase activity unlike in A. thaliana leaves. The increases in nucleoside transferase activity and NDPK phosphorylation were very rapid and transient. The results suggest a role for NDPK as a possible component of the ethylene signal transduction chain. 相似文献
