Disorders associated with dysfunction of autonomic nervous system are quite common yet frequently unrecognized. Quantitative autonomic testing can be invaluable tool for evaluation of these disorders, both in clinic and research. There are number of autonomic tests, however, only few were validated clinically or are quantitative. Here, fully quantitative and clinically validated protocol for testing of autonomic functions is presented. As a bare minimum the clinical autonomic laboratory should have a tilt table, ECG monitor, continuous noninvasive blood pressure monitor, respiratory monitor and a mean for evaluation of sudomotor domain. The software for recording and evaluation of autonomic tests is critical for correct evaluation of data. The presented protocol evaluates 3 major autonomic domains: cardiovagal, adrenergic and sudomotor. The tests include deep breathing, Valsalva maneuver, head-up tilt, and quantitative sudomotor axon test (QSART). The severity and distribution of dysautonomia is quantitated using Composite Autonomic Severity Scores (CASS). Detailed protocol is provided highlighting essential aspects of testing with emphasis on proper data acquisition, obtaining the relevant parameters and unbiased evaluation of autonomic signals. The normative data and CASS algorithm for interpretation of results are provided as well.  相似文献

Abstract. The characteristic form of the probability distributions of in vitro grown colonies is analysed and experimental results are shown to be well approximated by an exponential dependence. It is argued that this type of dependence is very frequent in nature and does not provide sufficient evidence to resolve the dilemma whether the development of haemopoietic lineages proceeds according to a schema of 'progressive and stochastic restriction' or more limiting 'developmental tree' with some random control process involved. Detailed analysis of the experimental conditions and results is needed to provide insight into collective phenomena in cellular proliferation and differentiation. At present, the complexity of the phenomena involved prevents unique interpretation of the experimental distributions. Nevertheless, one particular quantitative model, based on a developmental tree concept, yields a set of the theoretical probability distributions, which are in a very good agreement with the experimental results.  相似文献

As part of ongoing research on the chemical composition and the antimicrobial properties of Burkinabe plants essential oils alone and in combination, essential oils (EOs) from leaves of Cymbopogon citratus and Cymbopogon giganteus from Burkina Faso were analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. Five constituents, which accounted for 96.3% of the oil, were identified in the EO of C. citratus. Geranial (48.1%), neral (34.6%) and myrcene (11.0%) were the major constituents. For C. giganteus a total of eight compounds were identified which represented 86.0% of the oils extracted. The dominant compounds were limonene (42%) and a set of monoterpene alcohols: trans-p-mentha-1(7),8-dien-2-ol (14.2%), cis-p-mentha-1(7),8-dien-2-ol (12%), trans-p-mentha-2,8-dien-1-ol (5.6%) and cis-p-mentha-2,8-dien-1-ol (5.2%). The EOs were tested against nine bacteria by using disc diffusion and microdilution methods. C. giganteus EO showed antimicrobial effects against all microorganisms tested whereas C. citratus EO failed to inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antimicrobial activity of combinations of the two EOs was quantified by the checkerboard method. Combinations of the two EOs exerted synergistic, additive and indifferent antimicrobial effects. Results of the present investigation provide evidence that the combinations of plant EOs could be assessed for synergistic activity in order to reduce their minimum effective dose.  相似文献

DNA polymerase activities were measured on nuclear and supernatant fractions obtained from hamster fibroblast cells (the Don-C clone) grown in tissue culture and mitotically synchronized by selective removal of cells arrested in metaphase following a brief exposure to colcemid. A reproducible fraction (5–10%) of the polymerase activity was found to remain bound in the nuclear pellet after repeated cycles of freezing and thawing. The specific activity of this firmly-bound nuclear DNA polymerase was found to increase during S-phase in proportion to DNA synthesis. The bulk of this activity, after extraction in 1 m salt, exhibited an S value of 8·7 on neutral high salt sucrose gradients and was 24 times more active with poly dA. dT10 as template than with heat denatured DNA. The rest of the cellular DNA polymerase activity showed no significant variation correlated with the cell cycle. This activity also had an S value from 8 to 9 but it was only 2·8 times more active with the homopolymer template than with heat denatured DNA. DNA polymerase activity similar to the firmly-bound activity was found in extracts prepared from metaphase chromosomes.  相似文献

The number of tetrathyridia in the peritoneal cavities of mice increases exponentially with time. Thirty days post infection more larvae are in the cavities than in the livers. After that the increase of intraperitoneal populations continues, whereas the number of tetrathyridia in the livers remains more or less constant.Exogenous testosterone propionate, 10 μgg, twice a week, for 5 weeks, increases significantly the total volumes of tetrathyridial populations in the peritoneal cavities, whereas oestradiol benzoate, 5 μgg or 10 μgg, also for 5 weeks, accelerates the rate of growth and multiplication of coelomic tetrathyridia to a much lesser extent, but increases significantly the infection of the livers.  相似文献

The effect of the growth conditions and composition of the nutrient medium on the synthesis of cephalosporin C, alkaline exoproteases and cell differentiation was studied in various strains of Acremonium chrysogenum. It was observed that the changes in the above processes occurred simultaneously and depended on the aeration rate, temperature, illumination level and concentrations of methionine and soybean meal. Close correlation between the synthesis of alkaline exoproteases, cephalosporin C and formation of secondary structures in the strains of A. chrysogenum was shown.  相似文献
