A computer program (BBReader) was developed which performs an inverse search in theBioMagResBank database. Given (cross) peak positions of a protein, the program searchesfor atoms with matching chemical shifts and suggests possible assignments for user-specifiedhomo- and heteronuclear one- to three-dimensional COSY- and NOESY-type experiments.It can handle 1H, 13C and 15N spectra. To assess the biodiversity potential of an ungrazed and a grazed inland salt meadow in the Seewinkel (Eastern Austria), spider assemblages were recorded by pitfall trapping for 1 year. Both species assemblages consisted, to a large extent, of rare species of conservation interest. The species assemblage of the grazed site was dominated by Pardosa agrestis, but highly specific halotopobiontic species also occurred in higher numbers. Halotolerant species were also present in the ungrazed meadow, but their individual number was much lower. The species composition of this site reflects the more balanced microclimatical situation of the high sward. Comparison of the two assemblages with 207 other meadow spider assemblages of Central Europe shows a separated position, especially of the grazed site assemblage. High similarities with assemblages of meadows with a similar vegetation structure indicate a high importance of management. Considering the high proportion of rare species on both sites, the best management of the salt meadow and pan shores of the Seewinkel should combine areas of light grazing with ungrazed areas. However, the proportion of these parts and the intensity of grazing still remains to be determined by quantitative experiments.  相似文献

1.  Up to 9 kHz, the tympanal membrane of the grasshopper Chorthippus biguttulus responds with equal sensitivity at the attachment sites of the low and the high-frequency receptors; at the latter site it is also particularly sensitive between 10 and 20 kHz.
2.  The frequency spectra of the songs of both sexes exhibit maxima at 7–8 kHz, to which the membrane is well matched. In the high-frequency region, where the male songs have a peak at 30 kHz, there is no corresponding maximum in the membrane oscillation.
3.  Because the tympanal membrane is immediately adjacent to air sacs in the tracheal system, it is deflected inward and outward by as much as 80 m during the respiratory cycle.
4.  Measurements by laser vibrometry show that acoustically induced membrane oscillations are attenuated severely due to the respiratory displacement of the membrane for frequencies up to 10–12 kHz. By contrast, at higher frequencies the membrane sensitivity is doubled or tripled.
5.  As a result of these membrane effects, the discharge in the tympanal nerve was profoundly reduced in the low-frequency range, whereas above 11 kHz there was a marked increase. This modulation of auditory sensitivity affects the animals' ability to detect conspecific songs.

Summary Transport processes were studied in a gully between a saltmarsh and an estuary. After storm tides, ebb currents in the gully reached high values. It is concluded that particulate matter (both obganic and inorganic) are imported into the marsh. Coarse organic debris is exported during storm tides, but this amount is low when compared with the primary production on the marsh. Exports are shown for dissolved organic carbon, ammonia, phosphate and silica, while nitrate and possibly nitrite are imported. Therefore, it seems warranted to conclude that the organic matter producedin situ and imported is mineralized in the marsh.  相似文献

Summary The multifunctional enzyme enniatin synthetase was immobilized by adsorption to propyl agarose. The immobilized multienzyme retained 45% of the activity of the free enzyme; an operational half-life of about 15 h was estimated. Selective synthesis of several different enniatin homologues was achieved with propyl agarose-bound enniatin synthetase. In addition to enniatin A, B, and C formation, a selective synthesis of non-naturally occurring depsipeptides, containing norvaline, norleucine, or -aminobutyric acid as sole amino acid moieties, was observed.  相似文献

The reticulopodial networks of the foraminiferan protozoans Allogromia sp., strain NF, and A. laticollaris display rapid (up to 11 microns/second) and bidirectional saltatory transport of membrane surface markers (polystyrene microspheres). Electron microscopy shows that microspheres adhere directly to the reticulopodial surface glycocalyx. A videomicroscopic analysis of this phenomenon reveals that microsphere movement is typically independent of pseudopod extension/withdrawal and that particles of different sizes and surface properties display similar motile characteristics. The motile properties of surface-associated microspheres appear identical to those of saltating intracellular organelles. Indeed, in some instances the surface-attached microspheres appear transiently linked in motion to these underlying organelles. Our observations suggest that, in reticulopodia, surface transport of microspheres and intracellular transport of organelles are driven by a common mechanism.  相似文献

A flexing and gliding green sulfur bacterium has been isolated from marine sources off the North East coast of the USA. Chloroherpeton thalassium is an obligate phototroph, and requires CO2 and S2- for growth; some organic acids can contribute to cell carbon, and N2 may be fixed. The cells contain typical chlorosomes, and gas vesicles may be present. Bacteriochlorophyll c is the main light harvesting pigment, and a small quantity of bacteriochlorophyll a is also present. Structures have been determined for bilirubin-IXalpha conjugates in freshly collected bile of normal rats, dogs and man and in post-obstructive bile of man and rats. The originally secreted conjugate has been characterized as azopigment (I), i.e. a 1-O-acyl-beta-d-glucopyranuronic acid glycoside. Conversion of the acetylated methyl ester of azopigment (I) into methyl 2,3,4-tri-O-acetyl-1-bromo-1-deoxy-beta-d-glucopyranuronate (V) indicates the pyranose ring structure for the carbohydrate and a C-1 attachment for the bilirubin-IXalpha acyl group. Alternative procedures for deconjugation of azopigment (I) and its derivatives are also described. In post-obstructive bile, the 1-O-acylglucuronide is converted into 2-, 3- and 4-O-acylglucuronides via sequential intramolecular migrations of the bilirubin acyl group. The following approach was utilized. (1) The tetrapyrrole conjugates were cleaved to dipyrrolic aniline and ethyl anthranilate azopigments, and the azopigments were separated as the acids or methyl esters. (2) The isomeric methyl esters were characterized by mass spectral analysis of the acetates and silyl ethers. (3) The free glycosidic function was demonstrated by 1-oxime and 1-methoxime derivative formation. (4) The position of the dipyrrolic O-acyl group was determined for the methyl esters by protecting the free hydroxyl groups of the glucuronic acid moieties as the acetals formed with ethyl vinyl ether and by further conversion of the carbohydrates into partially methylated alditol acetates. These were analysed by using g.l.c.-mass spectrometry. The relevance of the present results with regard to previous reports on disaccharidic conjugates is discussed. Limited chymotryptic cleavage of soluble chicken gizzard desmin protofilaments allows the characterization of three structurally distinct domains. A surface-exposed very basic amino-terminal region (the headpiece) with an amino acid sequence excluding a-helical organization (7.5 kd) is separated from the perhaps globular carboxy-terminal 48 residues (the tailpiece) by a distinctly different middle domain of approximately 330 residues. This 38 kd domain is very rich in α-helix (at least 83%), and electron microscopy reveals a thin rod with a length of 500 ± 50 Å. Amino acid sequence data also show that the rod domain is interrupted by a nonhelical portion. An a-helical array is able to form a coiled-coil spanning the carboxy-terminal half of the 38 kd domain. The a-type diffraction pattern of 10 nm filaments arises from a coiled-coil conformation displayed through most but not all of the middle domain of the protofilaments.  相似文献
