Brachial plexuses of an adult female capuchin monkey (Cebus capucinus) were observed macroscopically. The main characteristic features of the organization of the plexus were as follows:Substantially the same organization was observed in the plexuses on both sides. The plexuses were formed by the union of the 5th–8th cervical nerves and the 1st thoracic nerve. The component from C5 contributed only to the superior posterior division; consequently the superior trunk in the strict sense was lacking. The medial cord was a peripheral extension of the inferior anterior division and formed a common trunk with the lateral root of the median nerve. Therefore, the medial root of the median nerve in the strict sense was absent, and the median nerve arose from the common trunk with the ulnar nerve. In the plexus on the right side, a long aberrant branch was found, which arose as an extra anterior divison of the middle trunk and joined peripherally the medial cord at a point where the cord formed the common trunk with the lateral root of the median nerve.These findings were compared with previous data obtained from other primates. 相似文献

Reticulate bodies of the meningopneumonitis (MP) microorganism were purified from L cells 18 hr after infection by the combination of differential centrifugation in 30% sucrose solution and potassium tartrate density gradient centrifugation. It was ascertained by electron microscopy that purified preparations of reticulate bodies obtained were almost entirely free of host-cell components and of infectious elementary bodies of MP microorganisms. Purified reticulate bodies were easily disrupted by mechanical agitation, and it was observed in shadowed preparation that ribosome-like particles 15 mmu in diameter were scattered from broken reticulate bodies. In shadowed preparations, reticulate bodies were found to range in size from 1.0 to 1.6 mu in diameter, but in cross-section the range was 0.5 to 1.0 mu. In these preparations, the purified reticulate bodies were irregular in shape, round or oval, and were composed of rather homogenous, amorphous, or reticulate material with moderate density. Some particles exhibited a less-dense internal structure, in which a coarse fibrous reticulum was seen. Chemical fractionation of (32)P-labeled purified reticulate bodies showed that they contained three times more ribonucleic acid (RNA) than deoxyribonucleic acid, with the RNA being composed primarily of 21S, 16S, and 4S RNA. No infectivity of purified reticulate bodies could be demonstrated. 相似文献

The relationships between neuromuscular performance and biomechanical variables were studied in maximum vertical jumps to examine the factors influencing the performance of a noncountermovement jump. Keeping their knee and hip joint fully extended, five healthy subjects performed four kinds of noncountermovement jumps and one countermovement jump, during which ankle joint angle, platform force, and surface electromyograms of a triceps surae muscle were recorded. In the four noncountermovement jumps, the magnitude of activation and force at the onset of a shortening contraction of the triceps surae muscle were controlled at four different levels. Performance parameters of the noncountermovement jumps, maximum angular velocity of the ankle angle and flight time, correlated with the platform force at the onset of the plantar flexion. Furthermore the integrated electromyograms of the triceps surae muscle before the plantar flexion were correlated with the maximum angular velocity of the ankle angle and the force at the plantar flexion onset. The findings suggest that the efficient utilization of the muscle characteristic contributes to an enhancement of the noncountermovement jump. 相似文献

In bullfrog (Rana catesbiana) rods the activity of cyclic GMP (cGMP) phosphodiesterase was stimulated 10 times by washing disc membranes with an isotonic, GTP-containing buffer. This stimulation was maintained following hydrolysis of GTP and after removal of guanine nucleotides. At least 60-70% of the inhibitory gamma subunit of cGMP phosphodiesterase (P gamma) was physically released from membranes by these washing procedures. When cGMP phosphodiesterase was activated by a hydrolysis-resistant GTP analogue, P gamma was found in the supernatant complexed with the transducin alpha subunit (T alpha) using three chromatography systems. When GTP was used to activate cGMP phosphodiesterase, P gamma was also found in the supernatant complexed with GDP.T alpha. This complex was also isolated using the same three chromatography systems, indicating that P gamma remained tightly bound to T alpha even after bound GTP was hydrolyzed. Interaction with the beta,gamma subunits of transducin, which remained associated with disc membranes, was required for the release of P gamma from the GDP.T alpha complex, which resulted in the deactivation of active cGMP phosphodiesterase. We conclude that during activation of cGMP phosphodiesterase, P gamma is complexed with T alpha (both GTP and GDP forms) in the supernatant and that, following GTP hydrolysis, beta,gamma subunits of transducin are necessary for the release of P gamma from the complex and the resulting inactivation of cGMP phosphodiesterase in frog photoreceptors. 相似文献

Laboratory animal allergy is a serious occupational diseases of many workers and scientists engaged in animal experimentation. Control measures depend upon characterization of allergens including airborne particles. This study measured the particle size of crude mouse urine and pelt aeroallergens generated in mouse housing rooms and compared them with mouse serum albumin, a defined major allergen. Allergens were detected by specific immunological methods. Most crude and defined allergens (74.5-86.4%) concentrated on a filter with a retention size greater than 7 microns. In distrubed air, allergen concentration increased 1.4 (albumin) to 5 (crude) fold and the proportion of small particles increased from 1.4% in calm air to 4.5% in distrubed air. This information on the generation and size distribution of aeroallergens will be important in the development of effective counter measures. 相似文献

Summary To breed industrially useful strains of a slow-growing, red-pigment-producing strain ofMonascus anka, protoplasts ofM. anka MAK1 (arg) andAspergillus oryzae AOK1 (met, thr) were fused. A mixture of protoplasts prepared from mycelia ofM. anka MAK1 treated with 2% Usukizyme and ofA. oryzae AOK1 treated with 2% Usukizyme and 0.2% NovoZym 234 was incubated with 30% (w/v) polyethylene glycol no. 6000. Heterokaryon fusants complementing the auxotrophies of both mutants were isolated on minimal medium, but segregated into red (MAK1) and white (AOK1) sectors after being cultured on a complete medium. After irradiation with UV light, the fusants gave stable heterozygous diploids that formed long white hyphae. These diploids, which had twice as much DNA in the nucleus as their parents, grew more rapidly than the parent strain YZT1, and produced ethanol earlier than the parents. For all biological particles such as cells or cellular organelles, there are three-dimensional coordinates representing the centroid or center of gravity. These coordinates and other numerical parameters such as volume, fluorescence intensity, surface area, and shape are referred to in this paper as geometric properties, which may provide critical information for the clarification ofin situmechanisms of molecular and cellular functions in living organisms. We have established a method for the elucidation of these properties, designated the three-dimensional labeling program (3DLP). Algorithms of 3DLP are so simple that this method can be carried out through the use of software combinations in image analysis on a personal computer. To evaluate 3DLP, it was applied to a 32-cell-stage sea urchin embryo, double stained with FITC for cellular protein of blastomeres and propidium iodide for nuclear DNA. A stack of optical serial section images was obtained by confocal laser scanning microscopy. The method was found effective for determining geometric properties and should prove applicable to the study of many different kinds of biological particles in three-dimensional space. 相似文献

Synopsis Paternal brood cannibalism was observed in a population ofApogon doederleini in Shikoku Island, Japan. Of 361 egg masses mouthbrooded by males, 47 disappeared within a day of spawning. A stomach check with a syringe ascertained that they had been consumed by the males. The frequency of this cannibalism increased as the breeding season advanced. As males completed 4–7 breeding cycles in a breeding season and spent 80% of the time mouthbrooding without taking ordinary food, their physical condition deteriorated greatly late in the breeding season. We concluded that parental physical condition is an important factor in the occurrence of brood cannibalism. 相似文献
