Fusarium verticillioides is one of the most important fungal pathogens in maize causing both pre- and post-harvest losses and also capable of producing Fumonisins. In the present study attempts have been made for screening potential T. harzianum from native rhizosphere and to study its effect on Fusarium ear rot disease, fumonisin accumulation in different maize cultivars grown in India. Eight isolates of T. harzianum were isolated and T. harzianum isolate Th-8 exhibited better antifungal activity than carbendizim. Th-8 was formulated in different solid substrates like wheat bran, paddy husk, talcum powder and cornstarch. Maize seeds of kanchan (moderately resistant), pioneer (resistant) and sweet corn (susceptible) were selected for laboratory and field studies and these seeds were treated with a conidial suspension of T. harzianum at the rate of 1 × 108 spore/ml and formulation at the rate of 10 g/kg. Treated seeds were subjected to evaluate F. verticillioides incidence, seed germination, seedling vigour and field emergence, yield, thousand seed weight and fumonisin production. It was found that the pure culture of T. harzianum was more effective in reducing the F. verticillioides and fumonisin incidence followed by Talc formulation than the carbendizim treated and untreated control. Formulations of T. harzianum were effective at reducing the F. verticillioides and Fumonisin infection and also increasing the seed germination, vigour index, field emergence, yield, and thousand seed weight in comparison with the control. 相似文献

Sugarcane is an economically important crop for both food and biofuel industries. Marker-assisted breeding in sugarcane is becoming a reality with the recent development and deployment of markers linked with disease resistance genes. Large linkage disequilibrium in sugarcane makes genome-wide association studies (GWAS) a better alternative to biparental mapping to identify markers associated with agronomic traits. GWAS was conducted on a Louisiana core collection to identify marker-trait associations (MTA) for 11 cane yield and sucrose traits using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and insertion-deletion (Indel) markers. Significant (P < .05) MTAs were identified for all traits where the top ranked markers explained up to 15% of the total phenotypic variation. High correlations (0.732 to 0.999) were observed between sucrose traits and 56 markers were found consistent across multiple traits. These markers following validation in more diverse populations could be used in marker-assisted selection of clones in sugarcane breeding program in Louisiana and elsewhere. 相似文献

Colonization of the human small intestine by Vibrio cholerae requires the type 4 toxin co-regulated pilus (TCP). Genes encoding the structure and biogenesis functions of TCP are organized within an operon located on the Vibrio Pathogenicity Island (VPI). In an effort to elucidate the functions of proteins involved in TCP biogenesis, in frame deletions of all of the genes within the tcp operon coding for putative pilus biogenesis proteins have been constructed and the resulting mutants characterized with respect to the assembly and function of TCP. As a result of this analysis, we have identified the product of one of these genes, tcpF, as a novel secreted colonization factor. Chromosomal deletion of tcpF yields a mutant that retains in vitro phenotypes associated with the assembly of functional TCP yet is severely attenuated for colonization of the infant mouse intestine. Furthermore, we have determined that the mechanism by which TcpF is translocated across the bacterial outer membrane requires the TCP biogenesis machinery and is independent of the type II extracellular protein secretion (EPS) system. These results suggest a dual role for the TCP biogenesis apparatus in V. cholerae pathogenesis and a novel mechanism of intestinal colonization mediated by a soluble factor. 相似文献

Some novel quinoline derivatives were prepared and tested for antileishmanial activity. 2-(2-Methylquinolin-4-ylamino)-N-phenylacetamide (2) was found to be significantly more active than the standard antileishmanial drug sodium antimony gluconate (SAG) in reducing the parasite load both in the spleen and liver at a much lower concentration in hamster models.
