Since, aggregate stability is the main physical property regulating erodibility; its observations can act as a useful indicator for monitoring and managing soil degradation. In this context, this study carried out in the alluvial plain of Cheliff, a semi-arid area aimed to predict aggregate stability through Mean Weight Diameter (MWD), using pedotransfer functions (PTFs) with different stratifications (textural, salinity and organic-textural) and artificial neural networks (ANNs). Results showed that the best MWD predictions were those related to organic-textural PTFs, in this stratification the silty-clay moderately rich OM class showed the highest significant determination coefficient R2 (0.65) and the lowest mean square error (0.03), whereas, the textural and salinity PTFs were a very weak predictors with a very low R2. It was also found that the performances of ANNs in predicting MWD were better than those of PTFs, regarding ANNs input variables the best predictions were those obtained with a large number of input variables, furthermore, by using a large number of hidden neurons, the performances of Radial Basis Function (RBF) were better than those of Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). It was also noted that the best RBF results were always related to the Gaussian hidden activation, whereas, MLP was not related to a specific hidden activation.  相似文献

Background

Non-adherence to tuberculosis (TB) treatment is the leading contributor to the selection of drug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and subsequent treatment failure. Tanzania introduced a TB Patient Centred Treatment (PCT) approach which gives new TB patients the choice between home-based treatment supervised by a treatment supporter of their own choice, and health facility–based treatment observed by a medical professional. The aim of this study was to assess the extent and determinants of adherence to anti-TB therapy in patients opting for home-based treatment under the novel PCT approach.

Methods

In this cross-sectional study, the primary outcome was the percentage of patients adherent to TB therapy as detected by the presence of isoniazid in urine (IsoScreen assay). The primary analysis followed a non-inferiority approach in which adherence could not be lower than 75%. Logistic regression was used to examine the influence of potentially predictive factors.

Results

A total of 651 new TB patients were included. Of these, 645 (99.1%) provided urine for testing and 617 patients (95.7%; 90%CI 94.3–96.9) showed a positive result. This result was statistically non-inferior to the postulated adherence level of 75% (p<0.001).

Conclusions

Adherence to TB therapy under home-based Directly Observed Treatment can be ensured in programmatic settings. A reliable supply of medication and the careful selection of treatment supporters, who preferably live very close to the patient, are crucial success factors. Finally, we recommend a cohort study to assess the rate of adherence throughout the full course of TB treatment.  相似文献

The ability of photosynthetic organisms to adapt to increases in environmental temperatures is becoming more important with climate change. Heat stress is known to induce heat-shock proteins (HSPs) many of which act as chaperones. Traditionally, it has been thought that protein denaturation acts as a trigger for HSP induction. However, increasing evidence has shown that many stress events cause HSP induction without commensurate protein denaturation. This has led to the membrane sensor hypothesis where the membrane's physical and structural properties play an initiating role in the heat shock response. In this review, we discuss heat-induced modulation of the membrane's physical state and changes to these properties which can be brought about by interaction with HSPs. Heat stress also leads to changes in lipid-based signaling cascades and alterations in calcium transport and availability. Such observations emphasize the importance of membranes and their lipids in the heat shock response and provide a new perspective for guiding further studies into the mechanisms that mediate cellular and organismal responses to heat stress.  相似文献

Natural beta-cyclodextrin (cyclomaltoheptaose) was treated with sodium hydride and allyl bromide to form the per-O-allyl-beta-cyclodextrin. 9-BBN, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide were then added to form, after adequate treatments, the desired per-O-(3-hydroxy)propyl-beta-cyclodextrin in yields close to 65%. This modified cyclodextrin, which bears only primary hydroxyl groups, can be used as a macro-initiator of the anionic polymerisation of ethylene oxide to form star-shaped polymers. The presence of only primary hydroxyl groups allows us to expect identical initiation kinetics for all the hydroxyl groups of the modified glucopyranosyl units.  相似文献

The Rectogordius (Foraminifera) abundance zone is described in the east of the Shishtu village in the Ozbak Kuh Mountain. The samples were collected in the Zaladou Formation., which is 60 m thick and composed of shales, sandstones, sandy limestones, microconglomerate, bioclastic limestones, coral limestone and fusulinid limestones. The Rectogordius abundance zone was found in sandy bioclastic limestone. It displays two species and three subspecies of this foraminifer, including Rectogordius iranicus, R. iranicus gadukensis, R. minimus and R. minimus shishtuensis n. subsp., R. iranicus ozbakensis n. subsp. The age of this abundance zone is considered to be Gzhelian, due to the distribution of Rectogordius in Central Iran (Ozbak Kuh; Zaladou Formation), central and eastern Alborz (Emarat Fm.), Sanandaj-Sirjan zone (Vazhnan Formation), as well as in the Donets, Arctic Canada, Afghanistan, and the Carnic Alps. The genus Rectogordius is possibly restricted to the northern Paleotethys margin, northern Cimmerian margin, shelf of the Uralian Ocean as far as the northernmost part of North America. Two new subspecies Rectogordius minimus shishtuensis n. subsp. and Rectogordius iranicus ozbakensis n. subsp. are described.  相似文献

The present study investigated the possible mediatory role of selenium (Se) in protecting plants from cadmium (Cd) toxicity. The exposure of sunflower seedlings to 20 μM Cd inhibited biomass production, decreased chlorophyll and carotenoid concentrations and strongly increased accumulation of Cd in both roots and shoots. Similarly, Cd enhanced hydrogen peroxides content and lipid peroxidation as indicated by malondialdehyde accumulation. Pre-soaking seeds with Se (5, 10 and 20 μM) alleviated the negative effect of Cd on growth and led to a decrease in oxidative injuries caused by Cd. Furthermore, Se enhanced the activities of catalase, ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase, but lowered that of superoxide dismutase and guaiacol peroxidase. As important antioxidants, ascorbate and glutathione contents in sunflower leaves exposed to Cd were significantly decreased by Se treatment. The data suggest that the beneficial effect of Se during an earlier growth period could be related to avoidance of cumulative damage upon exposure to Cd, thus reducing the negative consequences of oxidative stress caused by heavy metal toxicity.  相似文献

Background  

This paper deals with the preprocessing of protein sequences for supervised classification. Motif extraction is one way to address that task. It has been largely used to encode biological sequences into feature vectors to enable using well-known machine-learning classifiers which require this format. However, designing a suitable feature space, for a set of proteins, is not a trivial task. For this purpose, we propose a novel encoding method that uses amino-acid substitution matrices to define similarity between motifs during the extraction step.  相似文献

A bioreactor cascade with a submerged biofilm is proposed to treat young landfill leachate of jbel chakir landfill site south west from capital Tunis, Tunisia. The prototype was run under different organic loading charges varying from 0.6 to 16.3 kg TOC m−3 day−1. Without initial pH adjustment total organic carbon (TOC) removal rate varied between 65% and 97%. The total reduction of COD reached 92% at a hydraulic retention time of 36 h. However, the removal of total kjeldahl nitrogen for loading charges of 0.5 kg N m−3 day−1 reached 75%. The adjustment of pH to 7.5 improved nitrogen removal to a rate of 85% for loading charge of 1 kg N m−3 day−1. The main bacterial groups responsible for a simultaneous removal of organic carbon and nitrogen belonged to Bacillus, Actinomyces, Pseudomonas and Burkholderia genera. These selected isolates showed a great capacity of degradation at different leachate concentrations of total organic carbon.  相似文献
