Plastic surgeons have sought to improve nasolabial folds, jowls, jaw lines, and cervical contour with face-lifting procedures that are abundant in the literature. The retaining ligaments of the face support facial soft tissue in normal anatomic position, resisting gravitational change. As this ligamentous system attenuates, facial fat descends into the plane between the superficial and deep facial fascia, and the stigmata of facial age develop. In this study, surgical correction of the retaining ligaments and plication of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) to reposition the structures that have descended with gravitation are discussed. The anatomy of the facial retaining ligaments was studied in 22 half-faces of 11 fresh cadavers, and the localization, extension, and width of the ligaments were examined macroscopically and histologically. Surgical correction of the retaining ligaments and plication of the SMAS have been accomplished in 27 face-lift patients with this anatomicohistologic study taken into consideration. There was hematoma in one patient at the cheek region and a permanent dimple caused by postoperative edema in two patients, with a localization of one zygomatic and two parotidomasseteric ligaments. In one patient, hypesthesia in the mandibular nerve region was seen, which remitted at 14 weeks. There were no other complications, and with a follow-up of 24 months, excellent aesthetic results and a high level of patient satisfaction were encountered.  相似文献

Color and texture match is crucial in reconstruction of facial tissue defects. Between March of 1997 and July of 2000, island flaps based on the parietal, anterofrontal, centrofrontal, posterofrontal, and superior auricular branches of the superficial temporal artery were used in the reconstruction of tissue defects localized on different regions of the face in 28 patients. According to the size and the location of the defect, the flap was selected. There were 15 male patients and 13 female patients, with ages ranging between 19 and 74 years. In six of the flaps, venous congestion was observed. Because of the elevation of the eyebrow on the flap side, three patients required a sling to the opposite eyebrow. Excellent color and tissue match and transfer of hair-bearing tissue to the eyebrow and beard areas were achieved with no other complications. Satisfactory aesthetic results were gained.  相似文献

In the present study, rats were treated with sodium selenite (5 micromol/kg body weight/day, ip) for 4 weeks and the parameters of contractile activity, action potential, L-type Ca2+-current (ICaL), as well as transient outward (Ito), inward rectifier (IK1), and steady state (Iss) K+-currents were investigated. Sodium selenite treatment increased rat blood glucose level and lowered plasma insulin level, significantly. This treatment also caused slightly prolongation in action potential with no significant effects on spontaneous contraction parameters and intracellular Ca2+ transients of the heart preparations. These effects were associated with marked alterations in the kinetics of both ICaL and Ito including a significant slowing in both inactivation time constants of ICaL and a significant shift to negative potential at half-inactivation of these channels without any change in the current density. Also, there was a significantly faster inactivation of Ito and no shift in half-inactivation of this channel without any change in its current density. Consequently, there was a approximately 50% increase in total charges carried by Ca2+ current and approximately 50% decrease in total charges carried by K+ currents of the treated rat cardiomyocytes. Additionally we observed a significant inhibition in IK1 density in treated rat cardiomyocytes. Oxidized glutathione level was significantly increased (70%) while the observed decrease in reduced glutathione was much less. Since a shift in redox state of regulatory proteins is related with cell dysfunction, selenium-induced increase in blood glucose and decrease in plasma insulin may correlate these alterations. These alterations, in the kinetics of the channels and in IK1 density, might lead to proarrhythmic effect of chronic selenium supplementation.  相似文献

Deposits on surfaces in water-bearing systems, also known as ‘fouling’, can lead to substantial losses in the performance of industrial processes as well as a decreased product quality. Early detection and localization of such deposits can, to a considerable extent, save such losses. However, most of the surfaces that become fouled, for example, in process water pipes, membrane systems, power plants, and food and beverage industries, are difficult to access and analyses conducted on the water phase do not reveal the site or extent of deposits. Furthermore, it is of interest to distinguish biological from non-biological deposits. Although they usually occur together, different countermeasures are necessary. Therefore, sensors are required that indicate the development of surface fouling in real-time, non-destructively, and in situ, preferably allowing for discrimination between chemical and/or biological deposits. In this paper, an optical deposit sensor is presented which fulfills these requirements. Based on multiple fluorescence excitation emission matrix analysis, it detects autofluorescence of amino acids as indicators of biomass. Autofluorescence of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide?+?hydrogen is interpreted as an indicator of biological activity, thus it acts as a viability marker, making the method suited for assessing the efficacy of disinfection treatments. Scattering signals from abiotic deposits such as calcium carbonate or corrosion products can clearly be distinguished from biotic substances and monitored separately. The sensor provides an early warning of fouling, allowing for timely countermeasures to be deployed. It also provides an assessment of the success of cleaning treatments and is a promising tool for integrated antifouling strategies.  相似文献

Human GNL3 (nucleostemin) is a recently discovered nucleolar protein with pivotal functions in maintaining genomic integrity and determining cell fates of various normal and cancerous stem cells. Recent reports suggest that targeting this GTP-binding protein may have therapeutic value in cancer. Although, sequence analyzing revealed that nucleostemin (NS) comprises 5 permuted GTP-binding motifs, a crystal structure for this protein is missing at Protein Data Bank (PDB). Obviously, any attempt for predicting of NS structure can further our knowledge on its functional sites and subsequently designing molecular inhibitors. Herein, we used bioinformatics tools and could model 262 amino acids of NS (132-393 aa). Initial models were built by MODELLER, refined with Scwrl4 program, and validated with ProsA and Jcsc databases as well as PSVS software. Then, the best quality model was chosen for motif and domain analyzing by Pfam, PROSITE and PRINTS. The final model was visualized by vmd program. This predicted model may pave the way for next studies regarding ligand binding states and interaction sites as well as screening of databases for potential inhibitors.  相似文献

Background

For successful cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) a spatial and electrical separation of right and left ventricular electrodes is essential. The spatial distribution of electrical delays within the coronary sinus (CS) tributaries has not yet been identified.

Objective

Electrical delays within the CS are described during sinus rhythm (SR) and right ventricular pacing (RVP). A coordinate system grading the mitral ring from 0° to 360° and three vertical segments is proposed to define the lead positions irrespective of individual CS branch orientation.

Methods

In 13 patients undergoing implantation of a CRT device 6±2.5, (median 5) lead positions within the CS were mapped during SR and RVP. The delay to the onset and the peak of the local signal was measured from the earliest QRS activation or the pacing spike. Fluoroscopic positions were compared to localizations on a nonfluoroscopic electrode imaging system.

Results

During SR, electrical delays in the CS were inhomogenous in patients with or without left bundle branch block (LBBB). During RVP, the delays increased by 44±32 ms (signal onset from 36±33 ms to 95±30 ms; p<0.001, signal peak from 105±44 ms to 156±30 ms; p<0.001). The activation pattern during RVP was homogeneous and predictable by taking the grading on the CS ring into account: (% QRS) = 78−0.002 (grade−162)2, p<0.0001. This indicates that 78% of the QRS duration can be expected as a maximum peak delay at 162° on the CS ring.

Conclusion

Electrical delays within the CS vary during SR, but prolong and become predictable during RVP. A coordinate system helps predicting the local delays and facilitates interindividual comparison of lead positions irrespective of CS branch anatomy.  相似文献

The present study was designed to determine whether the properties of local Ca(2+) release and its related regulatory mechanisms might provide insight into the role of sex differences in heart functions of control and streptozotocin-induced diabetic adult rats. Left ventricular developed pressure, the rates of pressure development and decay (+/-dP/dt), basal intracellular Ca(2+) level ([Ca(2+)](i)), and spatiotemporal parameters of [Ca(2+)](i) transients were found to be similar in male and female control rats. However, spatiotemporal parameters of Ca(2+) sparks in cardiomyocytes isolated from control females were significantly larger and slower than those in control males. Diabetes reduced left ventricular developed pressure to a lower extent in females than in males, and the diabetes-induced depressions in both +dP/dt and -dP/dt were less in females than in males. Diabetes elicited a smaller reduction in the amplitude of [Ca(2+)](i) transients in females than in males, a smaller reduction in sarcoplasmic reticulum-Ca(2+) load, and less increase in basal [Ca(2+)](i). Similarly, the elementary Ca(2+) events and their control proteins were clearly different in both sexes, and these differences were more marked in diabetes. Diabetes-induced depression of the Ca(2+) spark amplitude was significantly less in females than in matched males. Levels of cardiac ryanodine receptors (RyR2) and FK506-binding protein 12.6 in control females were significantly higher than those shown in control males. Diabetes induced less RyR2 phosphorylation and FK506-binding protein 12.6 unbinding in females. Moreover, total and free sulfhydryl groups were significantly less reduced, and PKC levels were less increased, in diabetic females than in diabetic males. The present data related to local Ca(2+) release and its related proteins describe some of the mechanisms that may underlie sex-related differences accounting for females to have less frequent development of cardiac diseases.  相似文献

The present study was designed to determine whether there are beneficial effects of intake of Ω-3E (containing 70% pure omega-3 and 2% natural vitamin E) in cardiac dysfunction of diabetic rats. We also examined whether there are gender-related differences in the responses to the intake of Ω-3E on the heart dysfunction. Experiments were performed by using Langendorff-perfused hearts from normal, diabetic (with 50 mg/kg streptozotocin), and Ω-3E (50 mg/kg body weight/day) treated diabetic 3-month-old Wistar rats. Ω-3E treatment of the diabetics caused small, but significant decrease (13% and 14% female versus male) in the blood glucose level. Ω-3E treatment of the diabetic female rats did not prevent diabetes-induced decrease in left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP) and increase in left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) with respect to the control female rats. On the other hand, the treatment of diabetic male rats caused significant recovery in depressed LVDP. Furthermore, such treatment of diabetic female and male rats caused significant recovery in depressed rates of changes of developed pressure. This effect was more significant in males. Besides, Ω-3E caused significant further lengthening in the diabetes-induced increased time to the peak of the developed pressure in females, while it normalized the lengthening in the relaxation of the developed pressure in diabetic males. In addition, Ω-3E treatment caused significant restorations in the diabetes-induced altered activities of antioxidant enzymes without any significant gender discrepancy. Present data show that there are gender related differences in diabetic heart dysfunction and the response to antioxidant treatment.  相似文献
