The pathogenesis of some cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) has been altered with changes in the balance of certain trace and
toxic elements. The aim of the present study was to assess the role of zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) in smoker and nonsmoker
male CVD patients (n = 457) of two age groups (31–45) and (46–60). The both elements were determined in biological samples (scalp hair, blood,
and urine) of CVD patients and healthy referents for comparison purpose. The concentrations of Zn and Cd were measured by
atomic absorption spectrophotometer prior to microwave-assisted acid digestion. It was observed that the mean values of Cd
were significantly higher in the biological samples of smokers CVD as compared to nonsmoker CVD patients, while the level
of Zn was lower in both smoker and nonsmoker patients. The concentrations of Zn in whole blood and scalp hair samples were
lower in CVD patients as compared to referents (p > 0.001). Results showed significant changes of levels of Cd and Zn in blood and scalp hair samples of CVD patients when
compared with healthy referents, while reverse in the case of urine samples. It was observed that low Zn levels were associated
with both smoker and nonsmoker CVD patients, while increased cadmium accumulation was observed in smoker patients as compared

Previous studies have shown that the PDZ-binding motif of the E6 oncoprotein from the mucosal high-risk (HR) human papillomavirus (HPV) types plays a key role in HPV-mediated cellular transformation in in vitro and in vivo experimental models. HR HPV E6 oncoproteins have the ability to efficiently degrade members of the PDZ motif-containing membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family; however, it is possible that other PDZ proteins are also targeted by E6. Here, we describe a novel interaction of HPV type 16 (HPV16) E6 with a PDZ protein, Na(+)/H(+) exchange regulatory factor 1 (NHERF-1), which is involved in a number of cellular processes, including signaling and transformation. HPV16 E6 associates with and promotes the degradation of NHERF-1, and this property is dependent on the C-terminal PDZ-binding motif of E6. Interestingly, HPV16 E7, via the activation of the cyclin-dependent kinase complexes, promoted the accumulation of a phosphorylated form of NHERF-1, which is preferentially targeted by E6. Thus, both oncoproteins appear to cooperate in targeting NHERF-1. Notably, HPV18 E6 is not able to induce NHERF-1 degradation, indicating that this property is not shared with E6 from all HR HPV types. Downregulation of NHERF-1 protein levels was also observed in HPV16-positive cervical cancer-derived cell lines, such as SiHa and CaSki, as well as HPV16-positive cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). Finally, our data show that HPV16-mediated NHERF-1 degradation correlates with the activation of the phosphatidylinositol-3'-OH kinase (PI3K)/AKT signaling pathway, which is known to play a key role in carcinogenesis. 相似文献

In this review we outline clinical features, presentation and pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), treatment objectives and therapeutic options. We focus on and outline the changing role of the clinical laboratory in diagnosis and treatment of this condition. We also review recent information on the involvement of insulin resistance in the syndrome. We provide some explanation for confusion over the selection of the best hormone measurements for diagnosis. Preliminary investigations on inducing salt tolerance in maize through inoculation with rhizobacteria containing ACC deaminase activity 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Twenty rhizobacterial strains containing 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase were isolated from the rhizosphere of salt-affected maize fields. They were screened for their growth-promoting activities under axenic conditions at 1, 4, 8, and 12 dS x m-1 salinity levels. Based upon the data of the axenic study, the 6 most effective strains were selected to conduct pot trials in the wire house. Besides one original salinity level (1.6 dS x m-1), 3 other salinity levels (4, 8, and 12 dS x m-1) were maintained in pots and maize seeds inoculated with selected strains of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria, as well as uninoculated controls were sown. Results showed that the increase in salinity level decreased the growth of maize seedlings. However, inoculation with rhizobacterial strains reduced this depression effect and improved the growth and yield at all the salinity levels tested. Selected strains significantly increased plant height, root length, total biomass, cob mass, and grain yield up to 82%, 93%, 51%, 40%, and 50%, respectively, over respective uninoculated controls at the electrical conductivity of 12 dS x m-1. Among various plant growth-promoting rhizobacterial strains, S5 (Pseudomonas syringae), S14 (Enterobacter aerogenes), and S20 (Pseudomonas fluorescens) were the most effective strains for promoting the growth and yield of maize, even at high salt stress. The relatively better salt tolerance of inoculated plants was associated with a high K+/Na+ ratio as well as high relative water and chlorophyll and low proline contents. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to know the cyclic changes in gonadal maturation and to investigate the various developmental stages of oocytes and testicular germ cells of snow trout, Schizopyge niger. A total of 316 fish specimens were procured from three sites of river Jhelum during November 2016 to October 2017 and the histological analysis of their gonad was carried out. The results of the present study indicates that the male population was found significantly (p < 0.05) higher compared to female population and were reported as (1.6:1; M:F). The highest mean GSI value was recorded in male (12.24 ± 0.89) during the month of March and for female (13.74 ± 0.92) also in the month of March, which indicated that the gonadal development reached its peak during this month. The highest mean oocyte diameter was 1.04 ± 0.20 mm observed in March, showing that the oocyte reached its maturity during this month. Histological study of ovary revealed the evidence of vitellogenic yolk granule stage and ripe mature stage from December to April. While in case of male, four stages of spermatogenesis were distinguished and spermatozoa were highly abundant in the months of March and April. Mean ± SE of absolute fecundity was 3,224 ± 421 eggs and also, the relative fecundity was 69 egg/g body weight. Based on the results of GSI and the analysis of gonad histology, it was observed that the peak breeding season of S. niger occurred in the month of March. It was also noted that spawning period of this fish begins in the month of February and lasts till April with a peak breeding season in the month of March. The present study will provide a baseline information about the appropriate peak breeding of the fish, which will be useful for artificial breeding as well for prevention of fishing from natural habitat. 相似文献

A swim tunnel is to fish as a treadmill is to humans, and is a device used for indirect measuring of the metabolic rate. This study aims to explore the fish stress (if any) during the critical swimming test routines (fish handling, confinement, and swimming) using heart rate (fH, heartbeat per minute) bio-loggers in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.). In addition, the recovery dynamics of exercised fish using fH were explored for 48 h post swim tests. Continuous fH data were acquired following the surgical implantation and throughout the trials, such as during fish handling, swim tests (critical swimming speed, Ucrit), and 48 h post swim tests. After 3 weeks of surgical recovery, fH stabilized at 46.20 ± 1.26 beats min−1, equalizing a ~38% reduction in fH recorded post-surgical tachycardia (74.13 ± 1.44 beats min−1). Interestingly, fH was elevated by ~200% compared to baseline levels not only due to the Ucrit (92.04 ± 0.23 beats min−1) but also due to fish handling and confinement in the swim tunnel, which was 66% above the baseline levels (77.48 ± 0.34 beats min−1), suggesting fish stress. Moreover, significantly higher plasma cortisol levels (199.56 ± 77.17 ng mL−1) corresponding to a ~300% increase compared to baseline levels (47.92 ± 27.70 ng mL−1) were identified after Ucrit, predicting post-swim test stress (physiological exhaustion). These findings reinforce the importance of fish acclimation in the swim tunnel prior to the swimming tests. However, fH dropped over the course of the 48-h post-swim test, but remained comparatively higher than the basal levels, suggesting fish should be given at least 48 h to recover from handling stress for better fish welfare. This study further explored the influence of fish tagging on Ucrit, which resulted in reduced swimming capabilities of tagged fish (1.95 ± 0.37 body lengths s−1) compared to untagged fish (2.54 ± 0.42 body length s−1), although this was not significant (p = 0.06), and therefore future tagging studies are warranted. 相似文献

Moringa oleifera is a multipurpose plant which is now being promoted as a fodder crop. The present study was conducted to induce the tolerance in moringa plants to emerge and grow under saline conditions. For this, moringa seeds were primed with aerated water (hydropriming) and moringa leaf extract (MLE) for 12 and 24 h and studied for its emergence, potential growth behaviour, mineral composition, chlorophyll contents and antioxidant activities in comparison with unprimed seeds to investigate the physiological changes in moringa plants under saline conditions. The seeds were sown in plastic pots filled with acid washed sand at four salinity levels (3, 6, 10, 14 dS m?1) in a completely randomized design with three replications. It was found that salinity >6 dS m?1 reduced the emergence, growth and vigour of moringa plants but hydropriming (12 h) enhanced moringa emergence at 10 dS m?1 followed by MLE priming (12 h). Maximum aboveground biomass and photosynthetic pigments were recorded when the seeds were hydroprimed (12 h) but maximum root length and number of roots were found in MLE primed (12 h) moringa plants. Significant decrease in K+:Na+ ratio with increasing salinity levels resulted in low K+ and Mg2+ uptake and Na+ toxicity in moringa leaves which resulted in reduced chlorophyll contents at 14 dS m?1 but a significant increase in chlorophyll a and b contents and total phenolics were found in hydroprimed seeds (12 h) while the antioxidant activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase and catalas were improved by MLE priming (12 h).
