A fossil species of the extant liverwort genus Frullania Raddi is described and illustrated, based on a single inclusion in a piece of Rovno amber (Ukraine) that shares its age with Late Eocene Baltic amber, its northern contemporary. Frullania rovnoi is characterised by leaves with a rounded dorsal lobe and the absence of ocelli. The ventral lobe is inflated and forms a saclike lobule, which is bell-shaped and somewhat constricted above the mouth. The bifid underleaves have several blunt teeth or angulations along the shoulder. The Rovno fossil differs sufficiently from morphologically similar species preserved in Baltic and Bitterfeld amber as to be described as new to science. The shape of the lobules and underleaves, as well as the absence of ocelli, indicate an affiliation to F. sect. Australes, hitherto represented in Eocene amber inclusions solely by F. schumannii (Casp.) Grolle. The Rovno fossil is distinguished from extant species of F. subg. Australes and from F. schumannii by having roughly and irregularly dentate-angulate underleaf margins. 相似文献
Objective: Noninvasive diagnostics of early stages of coronary artery disease and discrimination between various extents of vascular lesions in patients is an important clinical problem especially considering wide spread use of cholesterol lowering drugs that affect lipid and lipoprotein profiling. The main goal of our study was to evaluate applicability of new combinations of noninvasive biomarkers such as leptin to insulin and adiponectin to endothelin ratios, for detection of early stages of coronary atherosclerosis versus later stages of the disease.
Patients and methods: A number of previously validated serum biomarkers were tested in a group of 500 patients with coronary artery disease and examined for their association with severity of coronary lesion according to Gensini score determined by coronary angiography.
Results: Lowest extent of coronary lesions was associated with significant increase in apoA-I levels and with significantly increased ratios of adiponectin to endothelin and leptin to insulin. In male but not in female patients, adiponectin to endothelin ratio below 7.0 was associated with Gensini score representing early to high coronary lesions (p?=?0.02). In female but not in male patients, leptin to insulin ratio below 3.5 was associated with Gensini score representing early to high coronary lesions (p?=?0.013).
Conclusion: Leptin to insulin and adiponectin to endothelin ratios are novel derived biomarkers useful for noninvasive diagnostics of initial stages of coronary lesions in patients with coronary artery disease. 相似文献
Comparative analysis of the indices of plant growth and mesostructure of the photosynthetic apparatus was carried out with ten wheat (Triticum L.) species of various origins. Wheat alloploid forms (tetra- and hexaploids with the chromosome numbers of 28 and 42) exceeded the diploid forms (the chromosome number of 14) 2.3–2.4-fold by their absolute growth rate (AGR). As a result, the alloploid species developed a larger assimilation area; this change involved the internal reorganization of leaf phototrophic tissues and an increase in the cumulative internal assimilation area. In addition, the alloploid species manifested a higher correlation between the surface areas of cell and chloroplast membranes caused by a decrease in the cell number per the unit leaf area, a relative increase of the number of composite multifaveolate cells, a considerable expansion (in volume and surface area) of mesophyll cells, and an increase in chloroplast size and numbers. The decreased ratio between the characteristics of the cell membrane and chloroplast envelope presumes that CO2 diffusion via cell and chloroplast membranes in the leaves was better balanced in the alloploid wheat species than in the diploid forms. All wheat species did not notably differ in their plastid–cytoplasm ratio (cell volume corresponding to one chloroplast and cell surface area per one chloroplast) and the ratio of surface area of cells to cell volume. The discriminant analysis revealed the indices of leaf growth and mesophyll structure instrumental in distinguishing between the diploid and alloploid species: leaf area, AGR, and cell size and number. The change in the latter indices optimized the structure of leaf phototrophic tissues in tetraploid and hexaploid species; as a result, the internal assimilation area was expanded and, consequently, leaf CO2 conductance was increased. 相似文献
The synthetic decapeptide H-SLTCLVKGFY-OH (termed immunorphin) corresponding to the sequence 364–373 of the CH3 domain of human immunoglobulin G heavy chain was found to compete with [125I]β-endorphin for high-affinity receptors on T lymphocytes from the blood of healthy donors (Ki = 0.6 nM). Besides immunorphin, its synthetic fragments H-Val-Lys-Gly-Phe-Tyr-OH (Ki = 15 nM), H-Leu-Val-Lys-Gly-Phe-Tyr-OH (Ki = 8.0 nM), H-Cys-Leu-Val-Lys-Gly-Phe-Tyr-OH (Ki = 3.4 nM), H-Thr-Cys-Leu-Val-Lys-Gly-Phe-Tyr-OH (Ki = 2.2 nM), H-Leu-Thr-Cys-Leu-Val-Lys-Gly-Phe-Tyr-OH (Ki = 1.0 nM) possessed the ability to inhibit specific binding of [125I]β-endorphin to T lymphocytes. Tests of the specificity of the receptors revealed that they are not sensitive to naloxone and Met-enkephalin, i.e. they are not opioid receptors. Kd values characterizing the specific binding of 125I- labeled immunorphin and its fragment H-Val-Lys-Gly-Phe-Tyr-OH to the receptors have been determined to be 7.4 nM and 36.3 nM, respectively. 相似文献
Regional-based association analysis instead of individual testing of each SNP was introduced in genome-wide association studies to increase the power of gene mapping, especially for rare genetic variants. For regional association tests, the kernel machine-based regression approach was recently proposed as a more powerful alternative to collapsing-based methods. However, the vast majority of existing algorithms and software for the kernel machine-based regression are applicable only to unrelated samples. In this paper, we present a new method for the kernel machine-based regression association analysis of quantitative traits in samples of related individuals. The method is based on the GRAMMAR+ transformation of phenotypes of related individuals, followed by use of existing kernel machine-based regression software for unrelated samples. We compared the performance of kernel-based association analysis on the material of the Genetic Analysis Workshop 17 family sample and real human data by using our transformation, the original untransformed trait, and environmental residuals. We demonstrated that only the GRAMMAR+ transformation produced type I errors close to the nominal value and that this method had the highest empirical power. The new method can be applied to analysis of related samples by using existing software for kernel-based association analysis developed for unrelated samples. 相似文献
While inverted DNA repeats are generally acknowledged to be an important source of genetic instability in prokaryotes, relatively little is known about their effects in eukaryotes. Using bacterial transposon Tn5 and its derivatives, we demonstrate that long inverted repeats also cause genetic instability leading to deletion in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Furthermore, they induce homologous recombination. Replication plays a major role in the deletion formation. Deletions are stimulated by a mutation in the DNA polymerase delta gene (pol3). The majority of deletions result from imprecise excision between small (4- to 6-bp) repeats in a polar fashion, and they often generate quasipalindrome structures that subsequently may be highly unstable. Breakpoints are clustered near the ends of the long inverted repeats (< 150 bp). The repeats have both intra- and interchromosomal effects in that they also create hot spots for mitotic interchromosomal recombination. Intragenic recombination is 4 to 18 times more frequent for heteroalleles in which one of the two mutations is due to the insertion of a long inverted repeat, compared with other pairs of heteroalleles in which neither mutation has a long repeat. We propose that both deletion and recombination are the result of altered replication at the basal part of the stem formed by the inverted repeats. 相似文献

Antibacterial activity of 7 aminoglycoside antibiotics and combinations of tobramycin or gentamicin with carbenicillin was studied with respect to 33 clinical strains of Ps. aeruginosa. Tobramycin, sisomicin, gentamicin and amicacin showed high levels of antibacterial activity. Tobramycin and sisomicin were 3-4 and 2 times more effective than gentamicin. 100 per cent of the Ps. aeruginosa isolates was sensitive to tobramycin and amicacin. The number of the isolates sensitive to sisomicin and gentamicin amounted to 97 and 94 per cent respectively. The respective numbers for streptomycin and kanamycin were 32 and 11 per cent. No monomycin sensitive isolates were detected. Combination of tobramycin or gentamicin with carbenicillin increased the antibacterial activity of the aminoglycoside antibiotics by 2-16 times and that of carbenicillin by 2-32 times. The synergistic effect of gentamicin or tobramycin with carbenicilin was observed with respect to 50 and 58 per cent of the isolates respectively. No antagonistic effect was detected on the combined use of the antibiotics. The majority of the isolates (96 per cent) were sensitive to combinations of carbenicillin in a concentration of 50 micrograms/ml with tobramycin or gentamicin in concentrations of 0.15 or 0.3 micrograms/ml respectively. 相似文献
Summary Fungal -galactosidase was immobilized in polyvinylalcohol gel formed in pores of contton material. Temperature and pH effects on the activity of free and immobilized enzymes were studied. The optimum temperatures of free and immobilized enzymes were 60° C and 55° C respectively. The pH optimum ranged from 4.5 to 5.0 for both enzymes. The thermal stability of the immobilized -galactosidase was slightly higher. The Km values for soluble and immobilized enzymes were respectively 1.9 mM and 2.5 mM. The optimization of conditions for a highly effective hydrolysis of 4% lactose solution and reusability of the immobilized enzyme resulted in 75% hydrolysis after 5–6 h. The degree of conversion decreased to 50% after 30 repeated runs. The capacity of the immobilized enzyme to hydrolyze lactose in whey was also studied. 相似文献
