The mechanism of transport of trace elements from the mother to the newborn is still not well known. The aim of present study was to compare the status of trace toxic elements, arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) in biological samples (whole blood, urine and scalp hair) of insulin-dependent diabetic mothers (age ranged 30-40) and their newly born infants (n = 76). An age and socioeconomics matched 68 nondiabetic mothers and their infants, residing in the same locality, who were selected as referents. The elemental concentrations in all three biological samples were determined by an electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometer, prior to microwave-assisted acid digestion. The mean values of As, Cd, and Pb in all biological samples of diabetic mothers and their infants were significantly higher as compared to the referent mother-infant pair samples (p < 0.01). The high levels of As, Cd, and Pb in biological samples of diabetic women may play a role in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and impacts on their neonates. 相似文献

The determination of essential trace and toxic elements in the biological samples of human beings is an important clinical screening procedure. This study aimed to assess the possible effects of environmental exposure on paralysed male workers (n?=?75) belonging to the production and quality control departments of a steel mill. In this investigation, the concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, lead, manganese and zinc were determined in biological samples (blood, urine and scalp hair samples) of exposed paralysis and non-paralysed steel mill workers. For comparative purposes, unexposed healthy subjects of same age group were selected as referents. The elements in the biological samples were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry prior to microwave-assisted acid digestion. The validity of the methodology was checked by the biological certified reference materials. The results indicate that the level understudy elements in all three biological samples were significantly higher in paralysed workers of both groups (quality control and production) as compared to referents (p?0.01). The possible connection of these elements with the aetiology of disease is discussed. The results also show the need for immediate improvements of workplace ventilation and industrial hygiene practices. 相似文献

The present study reports the convenient synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, bio‐assays and computational evaluation of a novel series of N‐acyl‐1H‐imidazole‐1‐carbothioamides. The screened derivatives displayed excellent antioxidant activity, moderate antibacterial and antifungal potential. The screened derivatives were found to be highly biocompatible against hRBCs. Molecular docking ascertained the mechanism and mode of action towards the molecular target delineating that ligands and complexes were stabilized at the active site by electrostatic and hydrophobic forces in accordance to the corresponding experimental results. Docking simulation provided additional information about the possibilities of inhibitory potential of the compounds against RNA. Computational evaluation predicted that N‐acyl‐1H‐imidazole‐1‐carbothioamides 5c and 5g can serve as potential surrogates for hit to lead generation and design of novel antioxidant and antibacterial agents. 相似文献

Genetic instability of tumor cells can result in translation of proteins that are out of frame, resulting in expression of
neopeptides. These neopeptides are not self-proteins and therefore should be immunogenic. By eluting peptides from human glioblastoma
multiforme (GBM) tumor cell surfaces and subjecting them to tandem mass spectrometry, we identified a novel peptide (KLWGLTPKVTPS)
corresponding to a frameshift in the 3′ beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 7 (HSD3B7) gene. HLA-binding algorithms predicted
that a 9-amino acid sequence embedded in this peptide would bind to HLA-A*0201. We confirmed this prediction using an HLA-A*0201
refolding assay followed by live cell relative affinity assays, but also showed that the 12-mer binds to HLA-A*0201. Based
on the 9-mer sequence, optimized peptide ligands (OPL) were designed and tested for their affinities to HLA-A*0201 and their
abilities to elicit anti-peptide and CTL capable of killing GBM in vitro. Wild-type peptides as well as OPL induced anti-peptide
CTL as measured by IFN-γ ELISPOTS. These CTL also killed GBM tumor cells in chromium-51 release assays. This study reports
a new CTL target in GBM and further substantiates the concept that rational design and testing of multiple peptides for the
same T-cell epitope elicits a broader response among different individuals than single peptide immunization. 相似文献

The “acute phase” is clinically characterized by homeostatic alterations such as somnolence, adinamia, fever, muscular weakness,
and leukocytosis. Dramatic changes in iron metabolism are observed under acute-phase conditions. Rats were administered turpentine
oil (TO) intramuscularly to induce a sterile abscess and killed at various time points. Tissue iron content in the liver and
brain increased progressively after TO administration. Immunohistology revealed an abundant expression of transferrin receptor-1
(TfR1) in the membrane and cytoplasm of the liver cells, in contrast to almost only nuclear expression of TfR1 in brain tissue.
The expression of TfR1 increased at the protein and RNA levels in both organs. Gene expression of hepcidin, ferritin-H, iron-regulatory
protein-1, and heme oxygenase-1 was also upregulated, whereas that of hemojuvelin, ferroportin-1, and the hemochromatosis
gene was significantly downregulated at the same time points in both the brain and the liver at the RNA level. However, in
contrast to observations in the liver, gene expression of the main acute-phase cytokine (interleukin-6) in the brain was significantly
upregulated. In vitro experiments revealed TfR1 membranous protein expression in the liver cells, whereas nuclear and cytoplasmic
TfR1 protein was detectable in brain cells. During the non-bacterial acute phase, iron content in the liver and brain increased
together with the expression of TfR1. The iron metabolism proteins were regulated in a way similar to that observed in the
liver, possibly by locally produced acute-phase cytokines. The significance of the presence of TfR1 in the nucleus of the

In the present article, we have presented the peristaltic flow of an Oldroyd 8-constant fluid in an endoscope. The governing equations for the flow problem are simplified using long wavelength and low Reynold's number approximations. The solutions of the simplified problem are calculated using (i) Homotopy analysis method and (ii) Shooting method. The comparison of both the solutions shows a very good agreement between the results. The graphical results for the velocity field and stresses are presented to show the physical behaviour of all the parameters appearing in the problem. 相似文献

The snow leopard (Panthera uncia) inhabits the high, remote mountains of Pakistan from where very little information is available on prey use of this species. Our study describes the food habits of the snow leopard in the Himalayas and Karakoram mountain ranges in Baltistan, Pakistan. Ninety-five putrid snow leopard scats were collected from four sites in Baltistan. Of these, 49 scats were genetically confirmed to have originated from snow leopards. The consumed prey was identified on the basis of morphological characteristics of hairs recovered from the scats. It was found that most of the biomass consumed (70%) was due to domestic livestock viz. sheep (23%), goat (16%), cattle (10%), yak (7%), and cattle?Cyak hybrids (14%). Only 30% of the biomass was due to wild species, namely Siberian ibex (21%), markhor (7%), and birds (2%). Heavy predation on domestic livestock appeared to be the likely cause of conflict with the local inhabitants. Conservation initiatives should focus on mitigating this conflict by minimizing livestock losses. 相似文献

The use of natural remedies and pharmacological mineral supplements for liver disease treatment has a long history. In present study, the levels of selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) were determined in biological samples (serum and whole blood) of female hepatitis C patients (n?=?132), age ranged 30–45 years, before and after 30 days treatment with herbal/pharmaceutical supplements. For comparative study, 128 age-matched female subjects, residing in the same residential areas and have socioeconomic status, were selected as referents. The Se and Zn in supplements, blood, and sera were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. It was observed that Zn and Se in blood and serum samples of viral hepatitis C (HCV) patients were reduced in the range of 28.6–39 % and 24–36 %, respectively, as compared to those of referents. After herbal/pharmaceutical supplementations, 20.6–25.0 and 9.15–13.2 % of Zn and 10.6–12.1 and 19.6–21.4 % of Se were enhanced in sera and blood samples of HCV patients, respectively. The resulted data indicated that the levels of Se and Zn in addition to some biochemical parameters were improved in HCV patients after herbal/pharmaceutical supplementation.
