Many swarm optimization algorithms have been introduced since the early 60’s, Evolutionary Programming to the most recent, Grey Wolf Optimization. All of these algorithms have demonstrated their potential to solve many optimization problems. This paper provides an in-depth survey of well-known optimization algorithms. Selected algorithms are briefly explained and compared with each other comprehensively through experiments conducted using thirty well-known benchmark functions. Their advantages and disadvantages are also discussed. A number of statistical tests are then carried out to determine the significant performances. The results indicate the overall advantage of Differential Evolution (DE) and is closely followed by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), compared with other considered approaches.  相似文献

Background

The HPTN 052 trial confirmed that antiretroviral therapy (ART) can nearly eliminate HIV transmission from successfully treated HIV-infected individuals within couples. Here, we present the mathematical modeling used to inform the design and monitoring of a new trial aiming to test whether widespread provision of ART is feasible and can substantially reduce population-level HIV incidence.

Methods and Findings

The HPTN 071 (PopART) trial is a three-arm cluster-randomized trial of 21 large population clusters in Zambia and South Africa, starting in 2013. A combination prevention package including home-based voluntary testing and counseling, and ART for HIV positive individuals, will be delivered in arms A and B, with ART offered universally in arm A and according to national guidelines in arm B. Arm C will be the control arm. The primary endpoint is the cumulative three-year HIV incidence. We developed a mathematical model of heterosexual HIV transmission, informed by recent data on HIV-1 natural history. We focused on realistically modeling the intervention package. Parameters were calibrated to data previously collected in these communities and national surveillance data.We predict that, if targets are reached, HIV incidence over three years will drop by >60% in arm A and >25% in arm B, relative to arm C. The considerable uncertainty in the predicted reduction in incidence justifies the need for a trial. The main drivers of this uncertainty are possible community-level behavioral changes associated with the intervention, uptake of testing and treatment, as well as ART retention and adherence.

Conclusions

The HPTN 071 (PopART) trial intervention could reduce HIV population-level incidence by >60% over three years. This intervention could serve as a paradigm for national or supra-national implementation. Our analysis highlights the role mathematical modeling can play in trial development and monitoring, and more widely in evaluating the impact of treatment as prevention.  相似文献

A novel polyethylene glycol (PEG) gel was fabricated and used as a carrier to immobilize Clostridium butyricum EB6 to improve biohydrogen (bio-H2) production from palm oil mill effluent (POME). POME is used as a substrate that can act as a carbon source. The resulting PEG-immobilized cells were found to yield 5.35 LH2/L-POME, and the maximum H2 production rate was 510 mL H2/L-POME h (22.7 mmol/L h). The Monod-type kinetic model was used to describe the effect of substrate (POME) concentration on the H2 production rate. The acclimation of immobilized cells greatly improved H2 production. Batch experiments demonstrated that particle size of PEG-immobilized cells for efficient H2 production 3 mm. It is significant that this is the first report on whole-cell immobilization in PEG for H2 production from POME.  相似文献

This study was conducted to detect the presence of chicken and porcine DNA in meatballs using mitochondria DNA (mtDNA) of cytochrome b (cyt b) and nuclear DNA (nDNA) short interspersed nuclear element (SINE) species-specific primers, respectively. While, the mtDNA primers targeted transfer RNA-ATP8 (tRNA-ATP8) gene was used for 1 and 5% (w/w) chicken meatball spiked with commercial porcine blood plasm. Chicken meatballs spiked with 1% and 5% (v/w) fresh and commercial porcine blood plasma, respectively were prepared and heat-treated using five (n = 5) cooking methods: boiling, pan-frying, roasting, microwaving and autoclaving. Two pairs of mtDNA and nDNA primers used, produced 129 and 161 bp amplicons, respectively. Whereas, tRNA-ATP8 primers produced 212 bp of amplicon. Electrophoresis analysis showed positive results for porcine DNA at 1% and 5% (w/w or v/v) for all of the different cooking techniques, either for fresh or commercial blood plasma using SINE primers but not for tRNA-ATP8 primers. The present study has highlighted the useful of species-specific primers of SINE primers in PCR analysis for detecting porcine DNA blood plasma in heat-treated chicken meatballs.  相似文献

BackgroundIn Malaysia, dengue remains a top priority disease and usage of insecticides is the main method for dengue vector control. Limited baseline insecticide resistance data in dengue hotspots has prompted us to conduct this study. The present study reports the use of a map on the insecticide susceptibility status of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus to provide a quick visualization and overview of the distribution of insecticide resistance.Method and resultsThe insecticide resistance status of Aedes populations collected from 24 dengue hotspot areas from the period of December 2018 until June 2019 was proactively monitored using the World Health Organization standard protocol for adult and larval susceptibility testing was conducted, together with elucidation of the mechanisms involved in observed resistance. For resistance monitoring, susceptibility to three adulticides (permethrin, deltamethrin, and malathion) was tested, as well as susceptibility to the larvicide, temephos. Data showed significant resistance to both deltamethrin and permethrin (pyrethroid insecticides), and to malathion (organophosphate insecticide) in all sampled Aedes aegypti populations, while variable resistance patterns were found in the sampled Aedes albopictus populations. Temephos resistance was observed when larvae were tested using the diagnostic dosage of 0.012mg/L but not at the operational dosage of 1mg/L for both species.ConclusionThe present study highlights evidence of a potential threat to the effectiveness of insecticides currently used in dengue vector control, and the urgent requirement for insecticide resistance management to be integrated into the National Dengue Control Program.  相似文献

The transition from mitosis to meiosis is unique to germ cells. In murine embryonic ovaries and juvenile testes, retinoic acid (RA) induces meiosis via the stimulated by retinoic acid gene 8 (Stra8), but its molecular pathway requires elucidation. We present genetic evidence in vivo and in vitro that neuregulins (NRGs) are essential for the proliferation of spermatogonia and the initiation of meiosis. Tamoxifen (TAM) was injected into 14-day post-partum (dpp) Sertoli cell-specific conditional Nrg1(Ser-/-) mutant mice. TAM induced testis degeneration, suppressed BrdU incorporation into spermatogonia and pre-leptotene primary spermatocytes, and decreased and increased the number of STRA8-positive and TUNEL-positive cells, respectively. In testicular organ cultures from 5-6 dpp wild-type mice and cultures of their re-aggregated spermatogonia and Sertoli cells, FSH, RA [all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), AM580, 9-cis-RA] and NRG1 promoted spermatogonial proliferation and meiotic initiation. However, TAM treatment of testicular organ cultures from the Nrg1(Ser-/-) mutants suppressed spermatogonial proliferation and meiotic initiation that was promoted by FSH or AM580. In re-aggregated cultures of purified spermatogonia, NRG1, NRG3, ATRA and 9-cis-RA promoted their proliferation and meiotic initiation, but neither AM580 nor FSH did. In addition, FSH, RAs and NRG1 promoted Nrg1 and Nrg3 mRNA expression in Sertoli cells. These results indicate that in juvenile testes RA and FSH induced meiosis indirectly through Sertoli cells when NRG1 and NRG3 were upregulated, as NRG1 amplified itself and NRG3. The amplified NRG1 and NRG3 directly induced meiosis in spermatogonia. In addition, ATRA and 9-cis-RA activated spermatogonia directly and promoted their proliferation and eventually meiotic initiation.  相似文献

Serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is predictive of coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of this study was to examine the possible association of hs-CRP with presence and severity of CAD and traditional CAD risk factors. This case-control study was carried out on 2,346 individuals from September 2011 to May 2013. Of these 1,187 had evidence of coronary disease, and were subject to coronary angiography, and the remainder were healthy controls (n = 1,159). Characteristics were determined using standard laboratory techniques and serum Hs-CRP levels were estimated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits, and severity of CAD was assessed according to the score of obstruction in coronary artery. Serum hs-CRP levels were higher in those with severe coronary disease, who had stenosis ≥ 50% stenosis of at least one coronary artery (all p < 0.001 vs. individuals in healthy control), and correlated significantly with the score for coronary artery disease (all p < 0.01). After adjustment for conventional risk factors, regression analysis revealed that smoking habits, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, hs-CRP, blood pressure, anxiety, dietary intake of vitamin E, and cholesterol remained as independent determinants for angiographic severity of CAD. The area under the receiving operating characteristic (ROC) curve for serum hs-CRP was 0.869 (CI 95% 0.721–0.872, p < 0.001). The optimal values for the cut-off point was a serum hs-CRP of 2.78 mg/l (sensitivity 80.20%, specificity 85%) to predict severity of CAD. Increased serum hs-CRP levels are significantly associated with angiographic severity of CAD, suggesting its value as a biomarkers for predicting CAD.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Lunella undulata is a subtropical-temperate marine gastropod which is harvested commercially from temperate reefs in Australia. This paper aimed to evaluate monthly variation in the condition index (CI) and biochemical composition of the foot tissue of L. undulata in relation to the spawning cycle. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) varied significantly between males and females and across months (P?=?0.0001), ranging from 43% to 70% in males and 41% to 71% for females. The highest GSI, as well as the highest CI for both sexes was recorded in December and April, whilst meat yield peaked in January, September and October. Protein, lipid, fatty acid and heavy metals in the foot tissue also significantly varied between months (P?<?0.05). Throughout all 14 months of sampling, the foot tissue of L. undulata showed good nutritional quality, with high levels of protein and the polyunsaturated fatty acids, docosapentaenoic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and arachidonic acid. Overall, despite some temporal variability in the biochemical composition, L. undulata could be harvested at any time of the year for human consumption, although it may be best to avoid peak spawning times, which occur around January in northern NSW.  相似文献

In continuation of the screening of South African seaweeds to identify potential candidates for the development of pharmaceutically active functional foods, we investigated the inhibitory effects of a crude 80 % methanol extract, solvent fractions and isolated compounds from the kelp Macrocystis angustifolia against enzymes involved in type 2 diabetes and dementia. Repeated column fractionation of the ethyl acetate fraction of the crude extract of M. angustifolia afforded two phenol derivatives identified by spectroscopic analyses (1D and 2D NMR): 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)phenol (tyrosol) (1) and 4-(1,2-dihydroxyethyl)phenol (2). These compounds were isolated from a marine alga for the first time. The ethyl acetate (IC50?=?14.08?±?1.21 μg mL?1) and butanol (IC50?=?77.94?±?11.69 μg mL?1) fractions exhibited potent inhibition against α-glucosidase and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzymes, respectively. Tyrosol (1) and its derivative, 4-(1,2-dihydroxyethyl)phenol (2), showed potent inhibition against both α-glucosidase and AChE enzymes. Based on in silico evaluation, these two compounds are anticipated to possess sufficient oral bioavailability in accordance to the Lipinski Rule of Five without any toxicity risk. Natural α-glucosidase and AChE inhibitors from M. angustifolia offer a novel approach to control type 2 diabetes and dementia.  相似文献
