Ethanol consumption was correlated with changes in acyl group profiles of phosphatidylcholine and triacylglycerols in serum of Sinclair(S-1) miniature boars. Serum triacylglycerols in the control pigs were high in linoleate (18:2) (48%) and low in stearate (18:0 (3%). Upon feeding with 10% (w/v) ethanol ad lib for two weeks, the proportion of 18:2 in serum triacylglycerols decreased to 12–15% with a concomitant increase in 16:0, 18:0 and 18:1. Similar, but less extensive, acyl group changes were observed in the serum phosphatidylcholine. In addition, there was a decrease in the proportion of 20:3 (n?6), but a biphasic change was shown in 20:4 (n?6) with respect to ethanol consumption. In general, the high ethanol consumers (7.0 g/kg/day) indicated a more rapid rate of acyl group change than the low consumers (3.8 g/kg/day). Upon withdrawal of ethanol, acyl groups of triacylglycerols rapidly returned towards the control values, whereas only small changes were observed for the recovery in phospholipids. In this situation, the low-consumer group indicated a more rapid recovery than the high-consumer group. Results indicate that with the swine model, serum lipid changes can be a useful parameter for correlating biological changes upon ethanol consumption.  相似文献

The plumage characteristics of male Indigo and Lazuli Buntings are distinct, but the two species can learn each other's songs. Populations comprising Indigo, Lazuli and hybrid individuals occur in the Great Plains of North America, and assortative mating has been inferred from morphometric data. We devised a laboratory assay for determining female preferences for visual and vocal characteristics of conspecific and heterospecific males and for mixtures of these characteristics, such as might be encountered in an overlap population. Females of both species gave more copulation-solicitation displays when exposed to conspecific plumage and vocalizations than when exposed to heterospecific plumage and vocalizations. Females gave intermediate and similar responses to the combinations of conspecific plumage with heterospecific vocalizations and heterospecific plumage with conspecific vocalizations. Thus, in the absence of other potentially important variables, female reproductive behavior is consistent with the hypothesis of assortative mating, based upon both vocal and visual traits of the males and caused by female choice in this semispecies pair.  相似文献

Endplate 16S acetylcholinesterase (16S-AChE) from rat anterior gracilis muscle was assessed, 6 hr to 10 days after denervation, by velocity sedimentation analysis on linear sucrose gradients. The innervating obturator nerve was transected either close (1-2 mm, short stump) or far (35-40 mm, long stump) from the muscle. In both instances, the activity of 16S-AChE gradually decreased and reached approximately the same level (10%-20% of control) by 6 days after denervation. However, enzymatic decay started considerably earlier in short stump (12-24 hr) as compared to long stump (4-5 days) preparations, i.e., the time of onset of 16S-AChE loss depended on the length of nerve that remained attached to the muscle. Whether this result extended to other AChE molecular forms (10S, 4S) in muscle endplates could not be determined because, in contrast to 16S-AChE, these forms were also detected in red blood cells (4S) and plasma (10S). Only small amounts of 16S-AChE were found in intact obturator nerves (1/100 of that in gracilis endplate regions). Thus a faster depletion of enzyme from shorter nerve stumps after axotomy could not entirely account for the substantial effect of nerve stump length on 16S-AChE. Since muscle contraction ceases immediately following nerve transection, regardless of nerve stump length, the results can be ascribed to the lack of some neural influence other than nerve-evoked muscle activity. The present findings are consistent with the view that maintenance of 16S-AChE at neuromuscular junctions primarily depends on regulatory substances which are conveyed by axonal transport and released from nerve terminals.  相似文献

Cyclohexaamylose-N-(N,N′-dimethylaminoethyl)acetohydroxamic acid and cyclohexaamylose-N-(4-imidazolemethyl)acetohydroxamic acid were synthesized. Their catalytic power is greater than that of cyclohexaamylose or of cyclohexaamylose-N-methylhydroxamic acid. In addition, optical selectivity was exhibited in the hydrolysis of d- and l-acetylphenylalanine p(m)-nitrophenyl esters by cyclohexaamylose-N-(N,N′-dimethylethyl)acetohydroxamic acid, and cycloheptaamylose.  相似文献

The hydrolyses of substituted trifluoroacetanilides were catalyzed by neutral imidazole. The effect of five phenyl substitutents (H, m-Cl, p-Cl, m-NO2, and p-NO2) on the hydrolyses was examined and proton inventory studies were carried out. Catalyses by neutral imidazole exhibited a positive ?(+0.84) and multiproton transfer in the transition state. This reaction involves general base-catalyzed formation of the tetrahedral intermediate by neutral imidazole followed by its breakdown catalyzed by water.  相似文献
