The synthetic pyrethroids bioallethrin,d-phenothrin, and fenvalerate, when tested by the slidedip technique, were more toxic to female two-spotted spider mites,Tetranychus urticae Koch, at 30°C than at 20°C. LC50 values differed by 1.7-, 3.8-, and 5.3-fold, respectively. Two other synthetic pyrethroids, flucythrinate and cyfluthrin, gave similar toxicity values at these two temperatures. Nitric oxide (NO) is a diffusible, very reactive gas that is involved in the regulation of many processes in plants. Several enzymatic sources of NO production have been identified in recent years. Nitrate reductase (NR) is one of them and it has been shown that this well-known plant protein, apart from its role in nitrate reduction and assimilation, can also catalyse the reduction of nitrite to NO. This reaction can produce large amounts of NO, or at least more than is needed for signalling, as some escape of NO to the outside medium can be detected after NR activation. A role for NO and NR in stomata functioning in response to abscisic acid has also been proposed. The question that remains is whether this NR-derived NO is a signalling molecule or the mere product of an enzymatic side reaction like the products generated by the oxygenase activity of RuBisCO. 相似文献

The ability of three substituted quinones, 2,5-dibromo-3-methyl-6-isopropyl-p-benzoquinone (DBMIB), 2,6-dichloro-p-benzoquinone (DCBQ), and tetramethyl-p-benzoquinone (duriquinone) to quench the excited states of chlorophyll (Chl) molecules in Photosystem I (PSI) was studied. Chl fluorescence emission measured with isolated PSI submembrane fractions was reduced following the addition of exogenous quinones. This quenching progressively increased with rising concentrations of the exogenous quinones according to the Stern-Volmer law. The values of Stern-Volmer quenching coefficients were found to be 3.28 x 10(5) M(-1) (DBMIB), 1.31 x 10(4) M(-1) (DCBQ), and 3.7 x 10(3) M(-1) (duroquinone). The relative quenching capacities of the various exogenous quinones in PSI thus strictly coincided to those found for the quenching of Fo level of Chl fluorescence in isolated thylakoids, which is emitted largely by Photosystem II (PSII) [Biochim. Biophys. Acta (2003) 1604, 115-123]. Quenching of Chl excited states in PSI submembrane fractions by exogenous quinones slowed down the rate of P700, primary electron donor of PSI, photooxidation measured at limiting actinic light irradiances thus revealing a reduced photochemical capacity of absorbed quanta. The possible involvement of non-photochemical quenching of excited Chl states by oxidized phylloquinones, electron acceptors of PSI, and oxidized plastoquinones, mobile electron carriers between PSII and the cytochrome b(6)/f complex, into the control of photochemical activity of PSI is discussed. 相似文献

Trifluoperazine, an anti-calmodulin agent, inhibited aflatoxin production by Aspergillus parasiticus NRRL 2999, without affecting the growth significantly. Culturing the organism for 3 days in the presence of 0.14mm trifluoperazine resulted in a generalized decrease in the production of all aflatoxins; the production of aflatoxin B1, a potent hepatocarcinogen, was inhibited to 88% under such conditions. Culturing 7-day-old preformed cultures in the presence of higher concentrations of trifluoperazine (>1mm) completely abolished production of all aflatoxins including AFB1. The inhibitory influence of trifluoperazine on aflatoxin production was accompanied by calmodulin-dependent phosphorylation of an 85kDa cytoplasmic calmodulin-binding protein. While the functions of calmodulin in mediating primary events of germination, growth and differentiation in fungi have earlier been reported, the present results indicate a possible role for calmodulin in the production of fungal toxins. 相似文献

Background
Non photochemical reduction of PQ pool and mobilization of LHCII between PSII and PSI are found to be linked under abiotic stress conditions. The interaction of non photochemical reduction of PQ pool and state transitions associated physiological changes are critically important under anaerobic condition in higher plants.Methodology/Findings
The present study focused on the effect of anaerobiosis on non-photochemical reduction of PQ pool which trigger state II transition in Arabidopsis thaliana. Upon exposure to dark-anaerobic condition the shape of the OJIP transient rise is completely altered where as in aerobic treated leaves the rise is unaltered. Rise in F o and F J was due to the loss of oxidized PQ pool as the PQ pool becomes more reduced. The increase in Fo′ was due to the non photochemical reduction of PQ pool which activated STN7 kinase and induced LHCII phosphorylation under anaerobic condition. Further, it was observed that the phosphorylated LHCII is migrated and associated with PSI supercomplex increasing its absorption cross-section. Furthermore, evidences from crr2-2 (NDH mutant) and pgr5 mutants (deficient in non NDH pathway of cyclic electron transport) have indicated that NDH is responsible for non photochemical reduction of the PQ pool. We propose that dark anaerobic condition accelerates production of reducing equivalents (such as NADPH by various metabolic pathways) which reduce PQ pool and is mediated by NDH leading to state II transition.Conclusions/Significance
Anaerobic condition triggers non photochemical reduction of PQ pool mediated by NDH complex. The reduced PQ pool activates STN7 kinase leading to state II transition in A. thaliana. 相似文献77.

Mutants of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens resistant to at least 10 μg/ml of tunicamycin were isolated and shown to be pleiotropic. The mutants were more resistant to streptomycin, chloramphenicol, kanamycin and neomycin than was the parent strain but less resistant to penicillin G and tetracycline. They were more autolytic, presumably due to an altered cell wall. The mutants produced reduced levels of amylase, penicillinase and both metal and serine protease besides having an enhanced sporulation frequency and being more motile. 相似文献

Time-mortality relationships for Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) life stages exposed to elevated temperatures 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The use of elevated temperatures (> or = 40-60 degrees C) or heat treatments for managing insects in food-processing facilities is a viable alternative to space fumigation with methyl bromide. Quantitative data are lacking on the responses of life stages of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), an important pest of food-processing facilities worldwide, to elevated temperatures used during heat treatments. We determined time-mortality relationships for eggs, young (neonate) larvae, old larvae, pupae, and adults of T. castaneum, exposed to constant temperatures of 42, 46, 50, 54, 58, and 60 degrees C. Generally, mortality of each stage increased with an increase in temperature and exposure time. Young larvae were the most heat-tolerant stage, especially at temperatures > or = 50 degrees C. Exposure for a minimum of 7.2 h at > or = 50 degrees C was required to kill 99% of young larvae, whereas the other stages required < or = 1.8 h. Heat treatments that control young larvae should control all other stages of T. castaneum, and young larvae should be used as test insects to evaluate efficacy against T. castaneum during an actual facility heat treatment. These results provide the basis for successful use of elevated temperatures for management of T. castaneum life stages associated with food-processing facilities. 相似文献

We report the discovery and optimization of a novel series of dihydrobenzofuran amides as γ-secretase modulators (GSMs). Strategies for aligning in vitro potency with drug-like physicochemical properties and good microsomal stability while avoiding P-gp mediated efflux are discussed. Lead compounds such as 35 and 43 have moderate to good in vitro potency and excellent selectivity against Notch.
