Intracellular localization of regulatory proteins of the German cockroach Blattella germanica densovirus

The use of western blot analysis of nuclear and cytoplasmic extracts of BgDNV densovirusinfected German cockroach, Blattella germanica, the intracellular localization of the regulatory proteins of the corresponding densovirus was investigated in cell culture. It was demonstrated that two proteins, namely NS1 and NS3, were predominantly localized in the nucleus, whereas NS2 protein was equally distributed in the nuclei and the cytoplasm. The data obtained are important for understanding the potential functions of densovirus regulatory proteins. The intracellular localization of NS3 protein was determined for the first time for any densovirus.     

Identification of hexokinase synthesizing polyribosomes in human normal and tumor tissues]

Comparative study of concentrations of growing hexokinase subunits polypeptide chains in the polyribosomes from normal and tumour human stomach tissue is studied using specific antiserum to hexokinase isoenzyme from human stomach tumour tissue. It is shown by two different methods (chromatography on Sepharose 46 and sucrose concentration gradient analysis) that the content of hexokinase polypeptides in stomach tumour is several times higher than in homologous normal tissue. The acta obtained show that the high activity of hexokinase in tumour tissues is due to the increased synthesis rate of the enzyme.     

The integration and expression of the beta-casein gene of Bos taurus in transgenic rats and mice

Transgenic rats and mice carrying Bos taurus beta-casein gene were obtained using microinjection into the male pronucleus. Integration, inheritance and expression of the gene in transgenic animals were studied.     

Analysis of the inheritance patterns of 5′-truncated copies of the German cockroach R2 retroposons in individual crosses

The inheritance patterns of the 5′-truncated copies of R2 retroposons were analyzed in individual crosses of the German cockroach. The recombination level within the cluster of ribosomal RNA genes was determined. It was demonstrated that only the frequencies of individual variants of 5′-truncated retroposon copies are appropriate for population analysis rather than the patterns characterizing individual X chromosomes. The methodical approach used in the work is convenient for studying the genetic variation in ribosomal DNA multigene families.     

Genetic Variation of Nuclear Ribosomal DNA in Cockroaches (Order Blattaria): Phylogenetic Analysis of Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism

Species-specific characteristics of nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA) have been determined for the first time for six insect species of order Blattaria (Insecta, Dictyoptera) with the use of restriction analysis and Southern blotting. Probes containing highly conserved fragments of 18S- and 28S-like genes of the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) of Tetrahymena pyriformis were tested in this study. The genetic similarity tree constructed for the species studied agrees with evidence from classical taxonomy based on morphological, ecological, anatomical, and physiological characters.
