Experiments were performed to determine whether seed priming with different concentrations (100, 150, and 200 mg/L) of auxins (indoleacetic acid (IAA), indolebutyric acid (IBA), or their precursor tryptophane (Trp)) could alter salinity induced perturbances in salicylic acid and ion concentrations and, hence, growth in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars, namely M.H.-97 (salt intolerant) and tnqtab-91 (salt tolerant). Primed and non-primed seeds were sown in Petri dishes in a growth room, as well as in a field treated with 15 dS/m NaCl salinity. All priming agents, except IBA, increased the final germination percentage in both cultivars. The seedlings of either cultivar raised from Trp-treated seeds had greater dry biomass when under salt stress. In field experiments, Trp priming was much more effective in mediating the increase in grain yield, irrespective of the cultivar, under salt stress. The alleviatory effect of Trp was found to be associated with reduced uptake of Na^+ in the roots and subsequent translocation to the shoots, as well as increased partitioning of Ca^+ in the roots of salt-stressed wheat plants. Plants of both cultivars raised from Trp-and IAA-treated seeds accumulated free salicylic acid in their leaves when under salt stress. Overall, the Trp priming-induced improvement in germination and the subsequent growth of wheat plants could be related to ion homeostasis when under salt stress. The possible involvement of salicylic acid in the Trp priming-induced better growth under Conditions of salt stress is discussed. 相似文献
Vanadium plays an important role in biological systems and exhibits a variety of bioactivities. In an effort to uncover the chemistry and biochemistry of vanadium with nitrogen- and oxygen-containing ligands, we report herein the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of vanadium(IV) complexes with hydrazide ligands. Substituents on these ligands exhibit systematic variations of electronic and steric factors. Elemental and spectral data indicate the presence of a dimeric unit with two vanadium(IV) ions coordinated with two hydrazide ligands along with two H(2)O molecules. The stability studies of these complexes over time in coordinating solvent, DMSO, indicates binding of the solvent molecules to give [V2O2L2(H2O)2(DMSO)2]2+ (L=hydrazide ligand) and then conversion of it to a monomeric intermediate species, [VOL(DMSO)3]1+. Hydrazide ligands are inactive against urease, whereas vanadium(IV) complexes of these ligands show significant inhibitory potential against this enzyme and are found to be non-competitive inhibitors. These complexes also show low phytotoxicity indicating their usefulness for soil ureases. Structure-activity relationship studies indicate that the steric and/or electronic effects that may change the geometry of the complexes play an important role in their inhibitory potential and phytotoxicity. 相似文献
Calligonolides A (1) and B (2), two new butanolides, and a new steroidal ester, 3, have been isolated from the whole plant of Calligonum polygonoides, together with four known compounds, tetracosan-4-olide, beta-sitosterol and its glucoside, and ursolic acid. The current study examined the aromatic degradation and central metabolism in Corynebacterium glutamicum by proteomic and molecular methods. Comparative analysis of proteomes from cells grown on gentisate and on glucose revealed that 30% of the proteins of which their abundance changed were involved in aromatic degradation and central carbon metabolism. Similar results were obtained from cells grown on benzoate, 4-cresol, phenol, and resorcinol. Results from these experiments revealed that (i) enzymes involved in degradation of benzoate, 4-cresol, gentisate, phenol, and resorcinol were specifically synthesized and (ii) that the abundance of enzymes involved in central carbon metabolism of glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, pentose phosphate pathway, and TCA cycles were significantly changed on various aromatic compounds. Significantly, three novel proteins, NCgl0524, NCgl0525, and NCgl0527, were identified on 4-cresol. The genes encoding NCgl0525 and NCgl0527 were confirmed to be necessary for assimilation of 4-cresol with C. glutamicum. The abundance of fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (Fbp) was universally increased on all the tested aromatic compounds. This Fbp gene was disrupted and the mutant WT(Deltafbp) lost the ability to grow on aromatic compounds. Genetic complementation by the Fbp gene restored this ability. We concluded that gluconeogenesis is a necessary process for C. glutamicum growing on various aromatic compounds. 相似文献
Tumor metastasis is the leading cause of nearly all cancer related deaths. While several experimental and computational studies have addressed individual stages of the complex metastasis process, a comprehensive systems-biology model that links various stages of metastasis has not been put forth as of yet. In this paper we discuss the formulation and application of such a model that utilizes basic principles of cell biology, physics and mechanics to study the migratory patterns of tumor cells as they move from the parent tumor site to the connective tissue via the basement membrane. The model is first of its kind in capturing the essential early features of metastasis in a single simulation and shows good agreement with recent experimental studies. 相似文献
Endocytosis plays key roles during infection of plant-pathogenic fungi, but its regulatory mechanisms are still largely unknown. Here, we identified a putative endocytosis-related gene, PAL1, which was highly expressed in appressorium of Magnaporthe oryzae, and was found to be important for appressorium formation and maturation. Deletion of PAL1 significantly reduced the virulence of M. oryzae due to defects in appressorial penetration and invasive growth in host cells. The Pal1 protein interacted and colocalized with the endocytosis protein Sla1, suggesting it is involved in endocytosis. The Δpal1 mutant was significantly reduced in appressorium formation, which was recovered by adding exogenous cAMP and 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX). Moreover, the phosphorylation level of Pmk1 in Δpal1 was also reduced, suggesting Pal1 functions upstream of both the cAMP and Pmk1 signalling pathways. As a consequence, the utilization of glycogen and lipid, appressorial autophagy, actin ring formation, localization of septin proteins, as well as turgor accumulation were all affected in the Δpal1 mutant. Taken together, Pal1 regulates cAMP and the Pmk1 signalling pathway for appressorium formation and maturation to facilitate infection of M. oryzae. 相似文献
Surface plasmon polariton (SPP) waves are the most extensively studied waves among various types of surface waves because they are easy to excite and have been used in many optical applications particularly for plasmonic communication, sensing, and harvesting solar energy. In all these applications, especially on-chip plasmonic communication, scattering can be an important issue to deal with. Therefore, this paper aimed to theoretically inspect the scattering pattern of SPP waves from a perfect electric conductor (PEC) cylindrical scatterer. The cylindrical wave approach is used to solve the scattering problem by a cylindrical object placed below a metallic layer. The scattering is investigated thoroughly by changing the size of the scatterer and its distance from the interface along which the SPP wave is excited. As the size of the scatterer increases, the scattering increases significantly. On the other hand, when the distance of the scatterer from the interface is increased, the scattered field becomes small. Two-dimensional field maps are produced for the incident angle at which SPP is excited. Numerical results are also presented for other incident angles to make a comparison. Furthermore, the forward and backward far-fields are significantly enhanced if the SPP wave is scattered in comparison with when the SPP wave is not present.
