Abstract

Lamellidens marginalis is an easily available food with high nutritive value. The present study is based on the East Kolkata Wetlands (EKW), India that produces mussels, consumed by human. Thus, the study of heavy metal pollution in the wastewater and mussel, and its transport to human is considered to be need of the hour to assess the health risk to human. The present study focuses on the cadmium accumulation in the outer exposed organs and the internal organs of L. marginalis. The mussel, sediment, and water were collected from the field and analyzed in the laboratory. The environmental factors were analyzed in situ. The survey work was conducted among the consumers of mussel around the EKW to predict the effect of cadmium on human. The result showed that the cadmium concentration of water was relatively important for the bioaccumulation process in L. marginalis. People having low level of income and age above forty, living adjoining the EKW were at high risk of cadmium pollution. The hazard quotient value of the above group was highest among all the groups across age and income. A ‘biofilter’ technique was suggested to mitigate the biomagnification of cadmium at the EKW.  相似文献

[Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2 forms neutral 1:3 complex by reaction with aromatic thiohydrazides, i.e. thiobenzhydrazide, o-hydroxythiobenzhydrazide, thiophen-2-thiohydrazide and furan-2-thiohydrazide. All these complexes are diamagnetic and have been characterized by elemental analysis and combination of spectroscopic methods. Cyclic voltammometry of the complexes shows irreversible metal centered and ligand centered electron transfer reactions. One complex, tris-o-hydroxythiobenzhydrazidocobalt(III), has been crystallized from DMSO solution to produce solvated crystals and its structure has been established by X-ray crystallography. Cobalt(III) ion is linked through three hydrazinic nitrogen and three sulfur atoms of three identical deprotonated ligand molecules in a distorted octahedral environment. Involvement of -OH group in intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding is crucial for crystal formation.  相似文献

Pyricularia oryzae Cav. reacts differently to different varieties. IB race group attacked Zenith for three consecutive years for both rabi and kharif seasons under artificial inoculation condition. Three different isolates were obtained in IB race which differed in their pathogenicity giving a constant susceptible reaction to Zenith. The difference in energy potential of three isolates of P. oryzae was tested biochemically. Total sugar, protein and protein patterns were studied following modern methods. W isolate contained maximum amount of total sugar (18.3 μg/g), total protein (23.8 μg/g albumin equivalent) and seven distinct protein bands on polyacrylamide disc electrophoretic gel which was directly correlated with maximum infection value. So it was concluded that the aggressiveness of P. oryzae depends on its energy potentiality in terms of total protein and protein patterns.  相似文献

The present investigation was undertaken to examine the effects of shift work on pulmonary function. 217 subjects from a local steel plant, volunteered for this study. Of these, 65 were day workers (DWs) and 152 were shift workers (SWs). Pulmonary function, such as vital capacity (VC), forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) and percent deviation of PEFR from the expected PEFR in each subject was measured between 09:00 to 11:00. Both day workers (DWs) and shift workers (SWs) were divided into two groups, based on age, i.e., ≤ 40 y and ≥ 41 y. The results indicate that the average levels of VC, FVC, FEV1 and PEFR were significantly lower in older age in both DWs and SWs when compared to their younger counterparts. Although elderly shift workers had higher levels of VC, FVC and FEV1 than day workers of comparable age, the difference was not statistically significant for FVC and FEV1. In contrast, average value of PEFR was lower in older shift workers. Further, mean percent deviation of observed PEFR from the expected value was conspicuously low in elderly shift workers. In summary, shift work appears to accelerate age-related decline in PEFR at least in elderly shift workers. Results of multiple regression analysis and correlation analysis compliment this finding.  相似文献
