Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis was conducted to investigate the level of polymorphism in four jute genotypes including two genotypes (JRC 321 and CMU 010) of Corchorus capsularis (the white jute) and two genotypes (JRO 524 and PPO4) of Corchorus olitorius (the tossa jute). Out of 1024 primer combinations that were tried, as many as 281 combinations of selective primers (13 EcoRI and 64 MseI) were selected, which produced a total of 9092 amplicons, including 752 (8.3%) polymorphic bands in C. capsularis and a total of 8856 amplicons including 1477 (16.7%) polymorphic bands in C. olitorius. The average number of bands/primer combination was 32.3 for C. capsularis and 31.5 for C. olitorius. For C. capsularis, highest polymorphism of 56.6% was shown by primer combination E35M50, while for C. olitorius highest polymorphism of 50% was shown by E41M91. In C. olitorius, 30–50% polymorphism was observed with 27 primer combinations, but in C. capsularis only 3 primer combinations gave this level of polymorphism. Similarly, in C. capsularis <10% polymorphism was detected by 115 primer combinations while in C. olitorius, <10% polymorphism was shown by only 56 primer combinations. These results indicate a higher level of polymorphism in C. olitorius relative to that in C. capsularis. The occurrence of such a large number of polymorphic AFLP markers will facilitate preparation of molecular maps and QTL analysis in jute. 相似文献

The present study was undertaken to determine the anti-ulcer and antioxidant potential of GutGard, a standardized extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra commonly known as licorice. Effect of various doses (12.5, 25, and 50 mg/kg, po) of GutGard was studied on gastric ulcers in pylorus ligation-, cold-restraint stress- and indomethacin induced gastric mucosal injury in rats. Anti-ulcer activity was evaluated by measuring the ulcer index, gastric content, total acidity, and pH of gastric fluid. GutGard dose dependently decreased gastric content, total acidity, ulcer index and increased pH of gastric fluid in pylorus ligation ulcer model. In cold-restraint stress- and indomethacin induced ulcer models all the doses of GutGard decreased the ulcer index and increased the pH of gastric fluid. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay. GutGardT exhibited potent antioxidant activity with high hydrophilic and lipophilic ORAC value. GutGard possessed anti-ulcerogenic properties that might be afforded via cytoprotective mechanism by virtue of its antioxidant properties. These results supported the ethnomedical uses of licorice in the treatment of gastric ulcer. 相似文献

Transmission-through-dye (TTD) microscopy makes possible direct measurement of bacterial volume, irrespective of cell shape. The technique can be realized on any brightfield microscope and is applicable to bacteria of all shapes. TTD imaging requires that intact bacteria be immobilized on a flat transparent surface, such as a glass coverslip. 相似文献

A novel pyridine diamine-based cyclic enediyne 1 was synthesized by bis-N-alkylation of 2,6-bis-sulfonamido pyridine 6 followed by deprotection with thiophenol. A variety of salts 1a-c of the parent amine 1 were prepared. Thermal reactivity studies indicated a dependence of the reactivity upon the extent of salt formation. This observation may be useful in pH-based design of enediynes. 相似文献

This paper reports the detection and identification of phenolic metabolites (C6-C3 and C6-C1 compounds) in Cocos nucifera. An HPLC/UV system was used to analyze the soluble and wall-associated phenolics in mesocarp and leaf tissues of C. nucifera. Alkaline hydrolysis of the cell wall material of the mesocarpic and leaf tissues yielded 4-hydroxybenzoic acid as the major phenolic compound. Other phenolic acids identified were ferulic acid, 4-coumaric acid, 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and vanillic acid. No significant qualitative differences in composition were observed between leaf and mesocarp, but there were quantitative variations in the metabolite levels. 相似文献

This is part of a project on the disadvantaged, marginalized, vulnerable/weaker section of the population and their survival strategy. The paper presents the results of a survey carried out during 2006-07 with the objective of throwing light on the life and living conditions of an economically weaker community such as 'fishing community' residing in the coastal area of Bay of Bengal in West Bengal and Orissa, India, in the context of global scenario. Various scientists have conducted quite a large number of studies to ascertain the income and nutritional status of people in rural India. Very few attempts, however, have been made to investigate in detail regarding the living standards of some specific communities, which are very often referred to, as the 'weaker section' of the people. The people belonging to fishing community are, by and large, not only economically weak in terms of earning and availability of work, the majority of them are not able to procure the minimum nourishment. The present study shows that some notable elements of living conditions such as food, shelter, health etc. matters much more than the conventional income or calorie deficiency. Commonly, the social scientists equate poverty with income or calorie deficiency which may not be the case as is evident from this study. We have hinted some measures to be undertaken to ameliorate the sufferings of the fishing community. 相似文献
