Negligible data are available following major social activities and environmental changes on leishmaniasis. Therefore, how interactions between these events influence cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) risk is not well-known. This longitudinal study was undertaken to explore the impact of interventions conducted between 1971 and 2020 in Bam county, which has had the highest disease burden in Iran. Only confirmed CL cases during this period were taken into account. Data were analyzed by SPSS 22 using the X2 test to assess the significance of the difference between proportions. Moreover, we used interrupted time series (ITS) to assess the impact of three environmental events during this period. Overall, 40,164 cases of CL occurred in the past five decades. Multiple complex factors were among the leading causes that synergistically induced the emergence/re-emergence of CL outbreaks in Bam. The main factors attributed negatively to CL control were cessation of malaria spraying activity, expansion of the city spaces, and a massive earthquake creating new breeding potentials for the vectors. The highest impact on CL incidence during these years was related to the earthquake [coefficient = 17.8 (95% CI: 11.3, 22.7); p-value < 0.001]. Many factors can contribute to CL outbreaks in endemic foci. They also can cause new foci in new areas. Since humans are the single reservoir for CL in this area, early detection and effective management significantly contribute to controlling CL to reduce the disease burden. However, essential evidence gaps remain, and new tools are crucial before the disease can ultimately be controlled. Nevertheless, sustained funding and more trained task forces are essential to strengthen surveillance and case management and monitor the interventions’ impact.  相似文献

Nutrient concentration in wheat and soil under allelopathy treatments   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Allelopathy is related to soil nutrient availability and allelochemicals can change the soil and therefore the plant nutrient status. Wheat is one of the most important crops for the production of human food in the world. Alhagi maurorum and Cardaria draba are the most important weeds in wheat fields. We performed experiments to assess the allelopathic effect of A. maurorum and C. draba shoots on mineral nutrient concentrations in pot-grown wheat plants and soil. The presence of dry powder of A. maurorum and C. draba shoots reduced concentrations of macronutrients (NO3 ?, K+, Ca2+ and P) and micronutrients (Fe2+ and Cu2+) in roots and shoots of wheat plants, whereas it did not affect concentrations of Mg2+, Mn2+ and Zn2+. Allelopathic effect of A. maurorum was significantly greater than that of C. draba. There was a significantly positive correlation between wheat growth and ion concentration. There was a significantly negative correlation between the soil nutrient concentration and plant nutrient concentration across the treatments. These results suggest that allelopathy increases the nutrient availability in the soil because of the decrease in absorption by plants.  相似文献

The Saharo–Sindian regional zone encompasses the flat and arid areas of North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, southern Iran and the deserts of Pakistan and west India. There are some scattered mountains situated within this area, like Hoggar in Sahara, Saint Catherine in Sinai and Genu and Homag in southern Iran. These highlands serve as interglacial refugia for cold adapted plant species. In the present study, phytogeographical patterns and relationships of the flora of Genu and Homag mountains are described and discussed in relation to the phytogeography of the flora of low‐lying Hormoz Island. According to a chorological assesment of the flora, Genu and Homag mountains belong to the Irano–Turanian region with 59% of the species restricted to this area. In contrast, the surrounding lowland plains are part of the Saharo–Sindian area with a rather high proportion of widespread species (17%) and Somalia–Masai‐linking elements (20%). It is noteworthy that several Turanian enclaves also occur in the lowland zone. Furthermore, the distributional patterns imply that the mountainous Irano–Turkestanian region is an integrated area which is supposedly distinct from the Turanian lowland areas in the north and from the Saharo–Sindian lowland areas in the south. On the other hand, the expansive floras of Turanian and Saharo–Sindian regions are linked to each other. Endemic species in lowland areas in south Iran are mostly either frost sensitive vicariants of cold adapted Turanian species or of Saharo–Sindian origin, while the highland endemics in the area trace their origins to the Irano–Turkestanian region.  相似文献

Seven fungal isolates were identified as pan-global Hypocrea/Trichoderma species, from section Trichoderma, on the basis of their morphology. These species were H. lixii/T. harzianum and H. orientalis/T. longibrachiatum. PCR-based markers with primer M13 (core sequence of phage M13) and internal-transcribed spacer sequences of ribosomal DNA were used to confirm the identity of the two Trichoderma species. Sequence identification was performed using the TrichOKEY version 2.0 barcode program and the multilocus similarity search database TrichoBLAST. Sequences from the ribosomal DNA internal-transcribed spacer regions showed limited variation among the Trichoderma species. This analysis divided the isolates into two main groups. Grouping the isolates based on cluster analysis of their DNA profiles matched the grouping based on morphological taxonomy. Molecular data obtained from analyses of gene sequences are essential to distinguish phonetically cryptic species in this group and to establish phylogenetic relationships.  相似文献

Human chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a stem cell driven hematological malignancy which shows resistance to existing therapeutics. This property of CML accentuates the necessity to develop alternative anti-CML therapeutic agents. Herein, we have evaluated the anticancer activity of a novel anticancer peptide, Brevinin-2R and its two analogues, Brevinin-2R-C and Brevinin-2R-D regarding their inhibitory activity against K562 cells. Various cell-based analyses have been conducted to analyze the effects of these peptides and their mechanism of action. Hematotoxicity assay was performed to determine their hemolytic activities. MTT and neutral red uptake assays were conducted to examine anti-proliferative effects, propidium iodide (PI) staining to monitor the DNA content in different phases of cell cycle and Annexin V/PI staining to detect the apoptosis induction for the peptides. Our findings indicated that these peptides are capable of diminishing the cell growth and inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. Brevinin-2R and its two analogues inhibited cell proliferation through strong cell cycle arrest in G2/M phase leading to apoptosis induction. The cytotoxicity of Brevinin-2R was higher than that of its two derivatives. These observations have provided new insights into the therapeutic activity of Brevinin-2R and its two analogues and suggest that these peptides have the potential to act as anticancer agents in treatment of K562. Further in vivo investigations on the therapeutic potential of Brevinin-2R and its two analogues are required to get a better grasp of their mechanism of action.

Delay‐and‐sum (DAS) is one of the most common algorithms used to construct the photoacoustic images due to its low complexity. However, it results in images with high sidelobes and low resolution. Delay‐and‐standard‐deviation (DASD) weighting factor can improve the contrast of the images compared to DAS. However, it still suffers from high sidelobes. In this work, a new weighting factor, named delay‐multiply‐and‐standard‐deviation (DMASD) is introduced to enhance the contrast of the reconstructed images compared to other mentioned methods. In the proposed method, the SD of the mutual multiplied delayed signals are calculated, normalized and multiplied to DAS beamformed data. The results show that DMASD improves the signal‐to‐noise‐ratio about 19.29 and 7.3 dB compared to DAS and DASD, respectively, for in vivo imaging of the sentinel lymph node. Moreover, the contrast ratio is improved by the DMASD about 23.61 and 10.81 dB compared to DAS and DASD, respectively.   相似文献

Supplying adequate amounts of soil N for plant growth during the growing season and across large agricultural fields is a challenge for conservational agricultural systems with cover crops. Knowledge about cover crop effects on N comes mostly from small, flat research plots and performance of cover crops across topographically diverse agricultural land is poorly understood. Our objective was to assess effects of both leguminous (red clover) and non-leguminous (winter rye) cover crops on potentially mineralizable N (PMN) and NO3--N levels across a topographically diverse landscape. We studied conventional, low-input, and organic managements in corn-soybean-wheat rotation. The rotations of low-input and organic managements included rye and red clover cover crops. The managements were implemented in twenty large undulating fields in Southwest Michigan starting from 2006. The data collection and analysis were conducted during three growing seasons of 2011, 2012 and 2013. Observational micro-plots with and without cover crops were laid within each field on three contrasting topographical positions of depression, slope and summit. Soil samples were collected 4–5 times during each growing season and analyzed for NO3--N and PMN. The results showed that all three managements were similar in their temporal and spatial distributions of NO3 N. Red clover cover crop increased NO3--N by 35% on depression, 20% on slope and 32% on summit positions. Rye cover crop had a significant 15% negative effect on NO3--N in topographical depressions but not in slope and summit positions. The magnitude of the cover crop effects on soil mineral nitrogen across topographically diverse fields was associated with the amount of cover crop growth and residue production. The results emphasize the potential environmental and economic benefits that can be generated by implementing site-specific topography-driven cover crop management in row-crop agricultural systems.  相似文献
