Summary The influence of genotypic combinations on the growth of hybrid embryos between Phaseolus vulgaris and P. lunatus, and between P. vulgaris and P. acutifolius was examined. All embryos obtained from P. vulgaris × P. lunatus crosses developed only to a stage which appears to be comparable to the pre-heart-shape stage of selfed embryos. Reciprocal crosses were attempted, but pods abscised at a very early stage. Embryos derived from P. vulgaris × P. acutifolius and reciprocal crosses attained the cotyledon stage although no mature seeds were formed. A distinct characteristic of these embryos was the uneven development of the two cotyledons. The rate of growth and final size of these hybrid embryos seemed to be influenced by the genotypes of both parents.Immature embryos were cultured on defined medium and the effects of glutamine and gibberellin (GA3) were examined. Glutamine was effective in increasing the survival rate; gibberellin had no apparent effect. Plants derived from cultured embryos of P. vulgaris × P. lunatus, P. vulgaris × P. acutifolius and P. acutifolius × P. vulgaris were obtained.Technical paper No. 00 of the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station. The dry matter and carbohydrate contents of intact growing ‘Sonia’rose corollas were measured from an immature bud to full expansionof the petals. Reducing sugars and starch, but not sucrose,accumulated throughout most of the corolla development. Thesefindings were compared with the carbohydrate changes in thecorollas of flowers cut at different stages and allowed to agewith their stems either in water or in a sucrose-containingsolution. For a few days after cutting the carbohydrate metabolismof the cut flower roughly paralleled that of the intact floweruntil starch hydrolysed to maintain the soluble carbohydratepool. Feeding with the sucrose solution maintained the solublecarbohydrate levels and retarded the hydrolysis of starch. The cut flowers were fed with 14C-sucrose and the labelled metabolitesin the leaves and flowers were analysed. Active incorporationof 14C into ethanol-soluble carbohydrates, starch and ethanol-insolublematerial was found indicating that an active anabolic phaseprecedes the catabolic phase during the senescence of the cutflower. The findings are discussed in relation to the source-sinkhypothesis of flower development, with regard to the senescenceand growth of the corollas of cut and intact flowers respectively.  相似文献

The rates of carbon import by fruits were measured over 48 has the sum of the change in the total organic carbon contentof the fruit and the respiratory loss of carbon. Over a rangeof fruit sizes from 20–90 per cent of the maximum volumethe smaller fruits imported carbon at an absolute rate (mgCfruit–1 h–1) nearly twice that of the larger fruits.The imported leaf assimilates, identified as the 14C-compoundsalong the pathway between a 14CO2-fed leaf and a young fruit,comprised 90 per cent sucrose and 10 per cent glutamic acid,aspartic acid and malic acid. Within the fruit the imported14C-sucrose was hydrolysed into hexoses. The changes in thelevels of starch and insoluble residue in the fruit were positivelycorrelated with the carbon import rates. In the largest fruitswith the lowest import rates, there was breakdown of insolubleresidue and less accumulation of starch, but a significant increasein the level of sucrose. The sink strength of a tomato fruitis dependent more on sink activity than on sink size.  相似文献

The effects of fruit temperature on the rate of carbon translocationand on the contents of the major carbon metabolites in the experimentalfruits were investigated. Carbon import, which was inverselyproportional to fruit size, was inhibited by fruit cooling (5°Cand enhanced by fruit warming (35°C) when compared withcontrols (25°C); furthermore, there was net export of carbonfrom the largest cooled fruits. The carbon translocation rateswere related both to the rates of accumulation or depletionof starch and insoluble residue and to the concentration ofsucrose in the fruit. The possible dependence of the rate oftranslocation on a gradient of sucrose concentration betweensource and sink is discussed.  相似文献

The rate of carbon transport based on the carbon balance overa 6-h period from a mature tomato leaf was measured overa rangeof net photosynthetic rates from 0.1 to 4.9 mg C dm–2h–1 under light flux densities from 4 to 140 W m–2.A proportional relationship was demonstrated between the rateof carbon transport and carbon fixation when the carbon fixationrate was higher than 2 mg C dm–2 h–1.Below a carbonfixation rate of 1 mg C dm–2 h–1, the rate of carbonexport was maintained at 1 mg C dm–2 h–1 at theexpense of the breakdown of starch. A highly significant correlationwas observed between sucrose concentration and the rate of carbontransport. The sucrose concentration in the leaf appears tobe the factor controlling carbon export.  相似文献

在麻醉大鼠观察了延髓腹外侧部的谷氨酸敏感区(GSA)应用ANP对血压和心率的影响。在GSA应用α-hANP,血压和心率明显降低。低浓度的APⅢ(10~(-6)mol/L)仅引起血压减低而不伴有心率减慢效应,而高浓度的APⅢ对血压和心率均有抑制效应。这些结果提示,ANP可能具有抑制延髓交感中枢作用并可能作为动脉压力感受器中枢通路的一种化学递质或调质。  相似文献

Although the discovery of stop codon has explained the mechanism for the formation of the intestinal marker, apolipoprotein B-48, the dispute regarding the presence of apolipoprotein B-100 in the intestine is still unsettled. To further investigate the characteristics of intestinal apolipoprotein B, the newly developed human colonic adenocarcinoma Caco-2 cells which express functional properties of the differentiated enterocytes, were used. SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analyses of the intact culture medium or its lipoproteins of d less than 1.23 g/ml showed the presence of only a single protein band of apolipoprotein B-100 with no detectable apolipoprotein B-48. After immunoblotting with oligoclonal antibodies to the amino-terminal peptide of apolipoprotein B, a trace amount of apolipoprotein B-48 was observed in the isolated lipoproteins, but not in the intact culture medium. These results suggest that apolipoprotein B-100 is the major form of apolipoprotein B secreted by human intestinal cells.  相似文献

Joint moments help us understand joint loading and muscle function during movement. However, the interpretation depends on the choice of reference frame, but the different reference frames have not been compared in dynamic, high-impact sporting movements. We have compared the magnitude and the resulting ranking of hip and knee joint moments expressed in the laboratory coordinate system, the local system of the distal segment and projected or decomposed to the Joint Coordinate System (JCS) axes. Hip and knee joint moments of drop jumps and sidestep cutting in 70 elite female handball players were calculated based on recordings from an eight-camera 240 Hz system and two force platforms and expressed with the four methods. The greatest variations in magnitude between conditions were seen for drop jump hip internal rotation (range: 0.31–0.71 Nm/kg) and sidestep cutting knee flexion (2.87–3.39 Nm/kg) and hip internal rotation (0.87–2.36 Nm/kg) and knee internal rotation (0.10–0.40 Nm/kg) moments. The rank correlations were highest between conditions for flexion moments (0.88–1.00) and sidestep cutting abduction moments (0.71–0.98). The rank correlations ranged from 0.64 to 0.73 for drop jump knee abduction moments and between −0.17 and 0.67 for hip and knee internal rotation moments. Expression of joint moments in different reference systems affects the magnitude and ranking of athletes. This lack of consistency may complicate the comparison and combination of results. Projection to the JCS is the only method where joint moments correspond to muscle and ligament loading. More widespread adoption of this convention could facilitate comparison of studies and ease the interpretation of results.  相似文献

Of three coexisting triggerfishes, in the intertidal and immediate subtidal zones of a coral reef within the Kenting National Park, southern Taiwan, Balistoides viridescens was observed only in the subtidal zone and foraged preferentially by nipping directly at small invertebrates among algal covered substrata. They fed also, although at a lower frequency, by using a water-jet technique to uncover prey on sandy substrata. Territory size ranged from 61·05 to 161·57 m2 but was not related to rates of feeding or defence. Feeding frequency was, however, positively related to the area of algae present in the territory, and inversely related to the frequency of defence. In contrast to B. viridescens, Rhinecanthus verrucosus and R. aculeatus foraged mainly in the intertidal zone when the tide was high. They fed preferentially off rocky substrata and used only nipping (not water-jetting) to secure prey.  相似文献
