The purpose of this study was to compare the duration and variability of speech segments of children who stutter with those of children who do not stutter and to identify changes in duration and variability of speech segments due to the effect of utterance length. Eighteen children participated (ranging from 6.3 to 7.9 years of age). The experimental task required the children to repeat a single word in isolation and the same word embedded in a sentence. Durations of speech segments and Coefficients of variation (Cv) were defined to assess temporal parameters of speech. Significant differences were found in the variability of speech segments on the sentence level, but not in duration. The findings supported the assumption that linguistic factors pose direct demands on the speech motor system and that the extra duration of speech segments observed in the speech of stuttering adults may be a kind of compensation strategy.  相似文献

We will describe a second phase of breast reconstruction on a young girl suffering from Poland syndrome. She has the breast, pectoralis major and minor muscle aplasia on the right side. She has no other deformities. The best result is achieved by combining latissimus dorsi flap and a silicone implant, and even better aesthetic result is accomplished with endoscopically assisted latissimus dorsi harvesting. Purpose of this operation is to correct the chest asymmetry and to accomplish good aesthetic result.  相似文献

The syntheses of the novel C-5 substituted pyrimidine derivatives of l-ascorbic acid containing free hydroxy groups at C-2' (6-10) or C-2' and C-3' (11-15) positions of the lactone ring are described. Debenzylation of the 6-chloro- and 6-(N-pyrrolyl)purine derivatives of 2,3-O,O-dibenzyl-l-ascorbic acid (16 and 17) gave the new compounds containing hydroxy groups at C-2' (18) and C-2' and C-3' (19 and 20). Z- and E-configuration of the C4'C5' double bond and position of the lactone ring of the compounds 6-9 were deduced from their one- and two-dimensional (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra and connectivities in NOESY and HMBC spectra. Compounds 15 and 18 showed the best inhibitory activities of all evaluated compounds in the series. The compound 15 containing 5-(trifluoromethyl)uracil showed marked inhibitory activity against all human malignant cell lines (IC(50): 5.6-12.8 microM) except on human T-lymphocytes. Besides, this compound influenced the cell cycle by increasing the cell population in G2/M phase and induced apoptosis in SW 620 and MiaPaCa-2 cells. The compound 18 containing 6-chloropurine ring expressed the most pronounced inhibitory activities against HeLa (IC(50): 6.8 microM) and MiaPaCa-2 cells (IC(50): 6.5 microM). The compound 20 with 6-(N-pyrrolyl)purine moiety showed the best differential inhibitory effect against MCF-7 cells (IC(50): 35.9 microM).  相似文献

Previously developed photothermal biosensor was optimised by determining the most suitable enzyme substrate (acetylthiocholine iodide) and the optimal carrier buffer (0.05 M phosphate buffer, pH 8.0). Excitation laser operating at 488 nm and 120 mW power provided the highest biosensor sensitivity. The biosensor was tested for detection of toxic organophosphate and carbamate compounds present in samples of salad, iceberg lettuce, and onion. Sufficient sensitivities to different pesticides (carbofuran, propamocarb, oxydemeton-methyl and parathion-ethyl) were achieved without time-consuming sample preparation procedures. The results show good agreement with the concentrations of pesticides determined with standard GC-MS detection method. The developed photothermal biosensor offers new low cost means to detect low concentrations of pesticides in vegetable samples with high throughput and little or no sample pretreatment.  相似文献

The Al(III)-salophen complex 1 exhibited strong spectroscopic changes specifically upon addition of polyG and GpG, while double stranded DNA and RNA, and single stranded polyA, polyU and polyC induced negligible spectral changes of 1. Titrations with mono-nucleotides yielded no spectroscopic changes, revealing that there must be at least two consecutive guanines in single stranded oligonucleotide structure for a measurable spectroscopic change of 1. A series of the novel acyclic unsaturated pyrimidine (112) and adenine (13) nucleoside analogues bearing conformationally restricted (Z)-2′-butenyl moiety were synthesized and evaluated for their antiviral and cytostatic activity potency against malignant tumor cell lines and normal human fibroblast (WI38). The N-1 and/or N-3 acyclic side chain substitution in pyrimidine ring in N-3 substituted 5-trifluoromethyluracil derivative (11), N-1, N-3 disubstituted 5-fluorouracil derivative (12) and adenine derivative (13) was deduced from their 1H and 13C NMR spectra and confirmed by single crystal X-ray structure analysis. The X-ray crystal structure analysis 1113 revealed also supramolecular self-assemblies, in which infinite chains or dimers built two- and three-dimensional networks. The results of the in vitro cytostatic activity evaluations of 1–13 indicate that the majority of the compounds tested exhibited a non-specific and moderate antiproliferative effect at the highest concentration (100 μM). Of all evaluated compounds on the cell lines tested only the N-1 4″-fluoro-substituted-benzamide uracil derivative (7) showed rather marked and selective inhibitory activity against the growth of MCF-7 cells at a concentration of 2.7 μM and no cytotoxic effect on normal fibroblasts WI38. This compound can be therefore considered as a potential antitumor lead compound for further synthetic structure modification.  相似文献

Our knowledge about fossil algae has been biased for a long time towards groups with calcified tissues such as dasyclads and crustose rhodophytes. This picture has recently begun to change owing to the growing number of discoveries of silicified microbial fossils and fossil microbial endoliths. There is good evidence that both groups contain a large proportion of photosynthetic organisms, particularly algae. Silicified microbial fossils are best known from the Precambrian strata, while microbial endoliths, which apparently evolved during middle to late Precambrian times are common throughout the Phanerozoic including the present. Because of the small size of these fossils, it is possible to study and morphometrically evaluate entire populations rather than individual specimens or body fragments. Thus, we are able to approach fossil taxa using largely biological rather than strictly paleontological criteria and to apply interpretations and reconstructions of biological species. Phycologists entering this field can contribute to the interpretation of such fossils by applying comparisons with modern algae, their life cycles, cellular organization, and cell division patterns. However, they have to learn to deal with post-mortem degradation and diagenetic changes, and to recognize algal remains from mineral features that surround and often obliterate the fossils. This work is often similar to that of a detective or coroner where the use of intuition and imagination is just as dangerous as it is necessary. Detection of microfossils between and within single carbonate grains in otherwise unfossiliferous rocks can provide valuable information for applied geology including petroleum exploration.  相似文献

Supernumerary chromosomes sporadically arise in many eukaryotic species as a result of genomic rearrangements. If present in a substantial part of species population, those are called B chromosomes, or Bs. This is the case for 70 mammalian species, most of which are rodents. In humans, the most common types of extra chromosomes, sSMCs (small supernumerary marker chromosomes), are diagnosed in approximately 1 of 2000 postnatal cases. Due to low frequency in population, human sSMCs are not considered B chromosomes. Genetic content of both B-chromosomes and sSMCs in most cases remains understudied. Here, we apply microdissection of single chromosomes with subsequent low-pass sequencing on Ion Torrent PGM and Illumina MiSeq to identify unique and repetitive DNA sequences present in a single human sSMC and several B chromosomes in mice Apodemus flavicollis and Apodemus peninsulae. The pipeline for sequencing data analysis was made available in Galaxy interface as an addition to previously published command-line version. Human sSMC was attributed to the proximal part of chromosome 15 long arm, and breakpoints leading to its formation were located into satellite DNA arrays. Genetic content of Apodemus B chromosomes was species-specific, and minor alterations were observed in both species. Common features of Bs in these Apodemus species were satellite DNA and ERV enrichment, as well as the presence of the vaccinia-related kinase gene Vrk1. Understanding of the non-essential genome elements content provides important insights into genome evolution in general.  相似文献
