Polar cod, Boreogadus saida, is a key species in the Arctic Ocean ecosystem. We examined the distribution pattern of B. saida and other fish larvae in relation to oceanographic parameters, including sea surface temperature and salinity (SST and SSS), the mode of temperature and salinity within the water column (F temp and F sal), and the temporal duration between the date of sea ice retreat and the date of field surveys (dSRT) in the northern Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea during the summers of 2008 and 2013. Sampling was conducted onboard the T/S Oshoro-Maru using a bongo net for 2 years. At sampling stations, the temperature and salinity were measured using conductivity-temperature-depth profiler casts. We calculated dSRT from satellite derived polar gridded sea ice concentration data. A total of 1186 individuals comprising 7 families and 16 species were collected, with B. saida (35 %) and Ammodytes hexapterus (27 %) dominating the catch in number. Based on the species composition (cluster analysis), the sampling stations were divided into four groups. Pleuronectidae dominated group A, which was characterized by relatively high temperature (SST and F temp), while B. saida dominated group B, characterized by low temperatures. A. hexapterus dominated group C and D, which had similar temperatures and salinities, but group C had a shorter dSRT than group D. The latter was also differentiated by the presence of Lumpenus sp. B. saida, which were most abundant in regions where temperatures ranged from ?2 to 0.5 °C. These results, the geographical variation of group B sampling stations, suggest there are two separate spawning areas characterized by similar fish communities and related to consistently cold bottom temperatures. Moreover, stations with a higher abundance of smaller sized larval B. saida were characterized by a short dSRT, whereas stations with a lower abundance and a larger size were characterized by a long dSRT. 相似文献

The efficacy of entecavir (ETV) and tenofovir (TDF) for the treatment of nucleos(t)ide analogue (NA)-experienced chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients has been little studied. Here, we compare the efficacy of both ETV and TDF in NA-experienced CHB patients without detectable genotypic resistance. This retrospective cohort study included consecutive NA-experienced patients who had neither current nor previous genotypic resistance and had received ETV or TDF for at least 6 months. Overall, 202 patients (146 patients in the ETV group and 56 in the TDF group) were analyzed. The cumulative probabilities of complete virologic suppression (CVS) at month 12 were 76.1% in the ETV group and 95.0% in the TDF group (P<0.001), respectively. The TDF-treated group achieved CVS more rapidly than the ETV group for both Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative and -positive patients (P = 0.006 and < 0.001, respectively), and for those with both low (< 2,000 IU/mL) and high (≥ 2,000 IU/mL) HBV DNA levels (P = 0.01 and 0.002, respectively). TDF group had an increased probability of achieving CVS (hazard ratio, 2.242; 95% confidence interval, 1.587–3.165; P = 0.001), after adjustment for HBV DNA level, the presence of HBeAg, and a history of CVS during prior treatment. During the treatment period, 23 patients (15.8%) in the ETV group developed virologic breakthrough, compared to none in the TDF group. The cumulative probabilities of developing virologic breakthrough and ETV-resistance at month 24 were 9.7% and 5.3%, respectively. In conclusion, TDF is preferable to ETV for achieving CVS in NA-experienced CHB patients without genotypic resistance. 相似文献

Estrogen receptor (ERalpha) modifies the expression of genes involved in cell growth, proliferation and differentiation through binding to estrogen response elements (EREs) located in a number of gene promoters, so the ERalpha gene is considered as an important factor affecting reproductive endocrinology in Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). In this study, twelve single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within eight CDS exons and 1 kb of 3'-UTR of the ERalpha gene were tested to association with four reproductive traits in a population of 119 Japanese flounder individuals with polymerase chain reaction-single stranded conformational polymorphism (PCR-SSCP). The association analysis of SNPs within Japanese flounder ERalpha gene with the reproductive traits was carried out using General Linear Model (GLM) estimation. Results indicated that two SNPs in the exon4 of ERalpha gene, P1 (A803G and C864T), were significantly associated with hepatosomatic index (HSI) (P<0.05) in female Japanese flounder. Other ten SNPs in 3'-UTR associated to serum 17beta-estradiol (E(2)) and HSI showed that P2 (A1982T) was significantly associated with E(2) (P<0.01) and P3 (A2149G, 2181TTACAAG2182 insertion or deletion, T2324G, A2359G and G2391A) was significantly associated with HSI (P<0.05) in female Japanese flounder. However, P2 (A1982T) and P4 (G2256T, T2294C, T2309G and A2333T) had significant effects on E(2) (P<0.05 and P<0.01, respectively) in male Japanese flounder. In addition, there were significant associations between diplotype D1 based on fourteen SNPs and reproductive traits. The genetic effects for HSI (female) or E(2) (male) of diplotype D1 were significantly higher than those of other eight diplotypes (P<0.05), respectively. Our findings implied that P1 of ERalpha gene affecting the reproductive traits could be a potential QTN (quantitative trait nucleotide) which would be useful genetic marker in the selection of some reproductive traits for its in Japanese flounder. 相似文献

Sperm entry into the oocyte of the starfish, Asterina pectinifera, was prevented when the membrane potential of the oocyte was held more positive than −10 to −5 mV, and multiple sperm entries were induced when the potential was held more negative. Based on this potential-dependent fertilization block mechanism, it was demonstrated that an activation potential (AVP) which is induced immediately after the attachment of the first sperm to the egg surface plays the role of a fast polyspermy block. The AVP-mediated polyspermy block mechanism develops as the oocyte matures and deteriorates as it ages. AVPs of mature oocytes exceeded −5 mV (the critical potential level for fertilization block) within 1 sec, and the potential stayed at +12 mV even after the initiation of fertilization membrane elevation. Consequently, the entry of a second sperm is prevented. In contrast, AVPs of overripe oocytes took about 15 sec to attain −5 mV, or they did not attain −5 mV at all. In overripe oocytes multiple sperm entries were associated with “step depolarization(s)” in the rising phase of the AVPs before membrane elevation took place. Immature oocytes generated AVPs associated with sperm entries, but without membrane elevation. AVPs in immature oocytes were characterized by the step depolarization(s) in the rising phase, and an AVP could be evoked again by a second insemination 20 min after the first insemination. A facile and binder‐free method is developed for the in situ and horizontal growth of ultrathin mesoporous Co3O4 layers on the surface of carbon fibers in the carbon cloth (ultrathin Co3O4/CC) as high‐performance air electrode for the flexible Zn–air battery. In particular, the ultrathin Co3O4 layers have a maximum contact area on the conductive support, facilitating the rapid electron transport and preventing the aggregation of ultrathin layers. The ultrathin feature of Co3O4 layers is characterized by the transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectra, and X‐ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. Benefiting from the high utilization degree of active materials and rapid charge transport, the mass activity for oxygen reduction and evolution reactions of the ultrathin Co3O4/CC electrode is more than 10 times higher than that of the carbon cloth loaded with commercial Co3O4 nanoparticles. Compared to the commercial Co3O4/CC electrode, the flexible Zn–air battery using ultrathin Co3O4/CC electrode exhibits excellent rechargeable performance and high mechanical stability. Furthermore, the flexible Zn–air battery is integrated with a flexible display unit. The whole integrated device can operate without obvious performance degradation under serious deformation and even during the cutting process, which makes it highly promising for wearable and roll‐up optoelectronics. 相似文献

The population of the endangered plant species Nymphoides peltata in Lake Kasumigaura, Japan, has been declining drastically recently, and seedlings that emerge from the remaining soil seed bank have entirely failed to establish. The decline has followed artificial control of the water level in the lake. To examine the environmental requirements at the seedling establishment stage, we investigated the survival and growth of emerged seedlings at various microsites on the lakeshore by manipulating environmental conditions such as exposure to waves, inundation, and light availability so as to include the conditions of the presumed safe sites. Seedling survival at the early stage was affected most by environmental variables relating to the susceptibility to inundation. Survival until seedling establishment was profoundly affected by light availability as well as by susceptibility to inundation. In all, 136 genets were established in quadrats less prone to inundation and with sufficient light availability, which is consistent with the presumed safe-site characteristics of the original water regime: bare ground exposed during the spring water-level drawdown. Recovering the original water regime with seasonal drawdown will be indispensable for recovering a self-sustainable population. However, as first-aid measures, active restoration efforts through adaptive management using the remnant soil seed bank are urgently needed before the soil seed bank becomes exhausted. 相似文献

Background
The persistence of Mycobacterium leprae (M. leprae) infection is largely dependent on the types of host immune responses being induced. Macrophage, a crucial modulator of innate and adaptive immune responses, could be directly infected by M. leprae. We therefore postulated that M. leprae-infected macrophages might have altered immune functions.Methodology/Principal Findings
Here, we treated monocyte-derived macrophages with live or killed M. leprae, and examined their activation status and antigen presentation. We found that macrophages treated with live M. leprae showed committed M2-like function, with decreased interleukin 1 beta (IL-1beta), IL-6, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and MHC class II molecule expression and elevated IL-10 and CD163 expression. When incubating with naive T cells, macrophages treated with live M. leprae preferentially primed regulatory T (Treg) cell responses with elevated FoxP3 and IL-10 expression, while interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) expression and CD8+ T cell cytotoxicity were reduced. Chromium release assay also found that live M. leprae-treated macrophages were more resistant to CD8+ T cell-mediated cytotoxicity than sonicated M. leprae-treated monocytes. Ex vivo studies showed that the phenotype and function of monocytes and macrophages had clear differences between L-lep and T-lep patients, consistent with the in vitro findings.Conclusions/Significance
Together, our data demonstrate that M. leprae could utilize infected macrophages by two mechanisms: firstly, M. leprae-infected macrophages preferentially primed Treg but not Th1 or cytotoxic T cell responses; secondly, M. leprae-infected macrophages were more effective at evading CD8+ T cell-mediated cytotoxicity. 相似文献1000.
