Asterorhombus annulatus was long synonymized with A. intermedius. Twenty-nine specimens from the Coral Sea revealed that the former is clearly separable from the latter in having a short first dorsal fin ray, slender gill rakers with spinules, distinctly shorter blind-side pelvic fin base, an absence of conspicuous black spots on the ocular side of the body, greater eye diameter and greater interorbital width, and somewhat higher ranges of upper jaw lengths. Ascorbate (AsA) peroxidase was found in six species of cyanobacteriaamong ten species tested. Upon the addition of H218O2 to thecells of AsA peroxidase-containing cyanobacteria, 16O2 derivedfrom water and 18O2 derived from H2I8O2 were evolved in thelight. The evolution of 16O2 was inhibited by DCMU and did notoccur in the dark, but I8O2 was evolved even in the dark orin the presence of DCMU. Similar light-dependent evolution of16O2 was observed in the cells of AsA peroxidase-containingEuglena and Chlamydomonas. However, the cells of AsA perox-idase-lackingcyanobacteria evolved only 18O2 in either the light or dark.Furthermore, the quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence inducedby hydrogen peroxide was observed only in the cells of the AsAperoxidase-containing Synechocystis 6803, and not in the cellsof Anacystis nidulans which lacks AsA peroxidase. Thus, cyanobacteriacan be divided into two groups, those that has and those thatlacks AsA peroxidase. The first group scavenges hydrogen peroxidewith the peroxidase using a photoreductant as the electron donor,and the second group only scavenges hydrogen peroxide with catalase. The purpose of the present study is to clarify the effects of hypoxia on the activity of the dopaminergic neurons in the brain and its mechanism of action. For this purpose, the effects of hypoxia on the extracellular levels of 3,4-dihy-droxyphenylethylamine (dopamine) were examined in the rat Striatum using in vivo brain microdialysis in the presence or absence of pretreatment with either tetrodotoxin (a blocker of voltage-dependent sodium channels) or nomifensine (a blocker of dopamine reuptake). Exposure to various degrees of hypoxia (15, 10, and 8% O2 in N2) increased dopamine levels in striatal dialysates to 200, 400, and 1,100%, respectively, of the control value. On reoxygenation, dopamine levels in the dialysates rapidly returned to the control level. Reexposure to hypoxia increased the dopamine levels to the same extent as during the first exposure. After addition of tetrodotoxin (40 mUM) to the perfusion fluid or pretreatment with nomifensine (100 mg/kg, i.p.), exposure to hypoxia no longer increased the dopamine levels. These results suggest that although hypoxia induces an increase in the extracellular dopamine levels (hence, an apparent increase in the activity of the dopaminergic neurons), this increase is not the result of an increase in dopamine release itself, but rather the result of inhibition of the dopamine reuptake mechanism.  相似文献

Summary Effect of pH of culture media on intracellular accumulation of poly-(hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) by a non-sulfur photosynthetic bacterium, Rhodobacter sphaeroides strain RV was studied in pH-stat cultures. Sub-optimal pH for growth, 8.0 or 8.5 gave the higher content of PHB rather than optimal pH 7.5 for growth. These results show that growth and PHB accumulation of the bacteria can be controlled by pH of culture media.  相似文献

Liquid cultures were successfully generated from cotyledons of two Sonneratia species, S. alba and S. caseolaris in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing 0.1 μmol L−1 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Adventitious roots differentiated from cotyledons of S. alba. Proliferated cells were subcultured and a large volume of suspension cells was subsequently established in 100-mL flasks. All the cytokinins tested inhibited cell proliferation. After three years of culture, the potential to differentiate was tested as indicated by greening of the cells. Greening occurred when suspension cells were transferred to solid MS medium with and without 0.1 μmol L−1 2,4-D. Greening was stimulated by low concentrations of the weak auxins indolebutyric acid (IBA) and naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) while 2,4-D stimulated late-stage greening. Abscisic acid (ABA) inhibited greening. Gibberellic acid (GA3) at 1.0 μmol L−1 stimulated callus greening and was not inhibitory even when tested at high concentrations. Cytokinins were inhibitory in combination with 0.1 μmol L−1 of either IBA or NAA. The cause of different effects of plant hormones on growth and differentiation was discussed. Small-scale liquid media and 24-well culture plates of solid media methods developed in this paper are suitable for the optimization of hormonal conditions for cell proliferation and differentiation.  相似文献

The effect of a high-pressure carbonation treatment on the change in quality of sake during storage was investigated. Measurements of the amino acidity and isovaleraldehyde content of carbonated sake (20 MPa pressure at 40, 45 and 50 degrees C for 7, 21 and 33 min, respectively) as well as of heat-treated sake (reaching temperature of 65 degrees C and immediately cooled) were almost unchanged during storage at 3 and 20 degrees C. Glucose in the sake subjected to these treatments was retained at an almost constant under the same storage conditions, except for the sake carbonated at 40 degrees C and stored at 20 degrees C. In contrast, the amino acidity, and glucose and isovaleraldehyde contents of non-pasteurized (fresh) sake increased during storage at both temperatures. The sake samples subjected to the carbonation treatment and heat treatment both gave better sensory scores than the fresh sake sample after 6 month of storage at 3 and 20 degrees C, especially at 3 degrees C for the flavor. These results suggest that the high-pressure carbonation treatment is an effective new technique for preserving the quality of sake.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to determine the contribution of muscle protein synthesis to the prevention of anesthesia-induced hypothermia by intravenous administration of an amino acid (AA) mixture. We examined the changes of intraperitoneal temperature (Tcore) and the rates of protein synthesis (K(s)) and the phosphorylation states of translation initiation regulators and their upstream signaling components in skeletal muscle in conscious (Nor) or propofol-anesthetized (Ane) rats after a 3-h intravenous administration of a balanced AA mixture or saline (Sal). Compared with Sal administration, the AA mixture administration markedly attenuated the decrease in Tcore in rats during anesthesia, whereas Tcore in the Nor-AA group became slightly elevated during treatment. Stimulation of muscle protein synthesis resulting from AA administration was observed in each case, although K(s) remained lower in the Ane-AA group than in the Nor-Sal group. AA administration during anesthesia significantly increased insulin concentrations to levels approximately 6-fold greater than in the Nor-AA group and enhanced phosphorylation of eukaryotic initiation factor 4E-binding protein-1 (4E-BP1) and ribosomal protein S6 protein kinase relative to all other groups and treatments. The alterations in the Ane-AA group were accompanied by hyperphosphorylation of protein kinase B and the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). These results suggest that administration of an AA mixture during anesthesia stimulates muscle protein synthesis via insulin-mTOR-dependent activation of translation initiation regulators caused by markedly elevated insulin and, thereby, facilitates thermal accumulation in the body.  相似文献
