Genetic deversity at the highly polymorphic BoLA-DRB3 locus was investigated by DNA sequence analyses of 18 African cattle from two breeds representing the two subspecies of cattle, Bos primigenius indicus and Bos primigenius taurus. Yhe polymorphism was compared with that found in a sample ofd 32 European cattle from four breeds, all classified as B. p. taurus. Particularly extensive genetic diversity was found among African cattle, in which as many as 18 alleles were recognized in this small random sample of animals from two breeds. The observed similarity in allele frequency distribution between the two African populations, N'Dama and Zebu cattle, is consistent with the recent recognition of gene flow between B. p. indicus and B. P taurus cattle in Africa. A total of 30 DRB3 alleles were documented and as many as 26 of these were classified as major allelic types showing at least five amino acid substitutions compared with other major types. The observation of extensive genetic diversity at MHC loci in cattle, as well as in other farm animals, provides a compelling argument against matin-type preferences as a primary cause in maintaining major histocompatibility complex diversity, since the reproduction of these animals has been controlled by humans for many generations.The nucleotide sequence data reported in this paper have been submitted to the EMBL nucleotide sequence database and have been given the accession numbers X87641-X87670 相似文献

Summary Do birds that migrate over longer distances have more pointed wings than more sedentary birds? Within several bird genera, species differ considerably in their migration distances. This makes it possible to study the extent to which different taxa show similar morphological solutions to common selection pressures. I selected 14 species, two from each of seven passerine genera, to maximize within-genus differences in migration distance. Wing lengths and the lengths of eight primary feathers around the wing tip were measured to assess wing length and shape. Primary lengths were transformed to take into account the allometric relationship between the length of each feather and wing length and then collapsed into summary measures of shape by principal component analysis. I used the method of independent contrasts to address the effects of phylogeny. Wing length showed no relationship with migration distance. There was a correlation between migration distance and wing shape. It is concluded that long-distance migration has resulted in convergent morphological evolution of long distal and short proximal primaries, resulting in wing tips close to the leading edge of the wing. 相似文献

Erythrocytes of the rare human blood group En(a?) lack the major sialoglycoprotein, glycophorin A, and the cell population heterozygous for the En(a) antigen contain half the normal amount of glycophorin A. With such cells we have studied whether glycophorin A influences the phospholipid composition and the availability of aminophospholipids to external labeling reagents. We here demonstrate that the amounts of all phospholipids are closely similar in normal and variant membranes. However, using the amino-reactive reagent trinitrobenzenesulfonate, we show that phosphatidylethanolamine is more easily labeled in intact En(a?) cells as compared to normal cells, whereas phosphatidylethanolamine shows an intermediate labeling in En(a) heterozygous cells. 相似文献

Summary The blood oxygen binding properties and gill secondary lamellar structure of rainbow trout acclimated to several temperatures were studied. The blood oxygen carrying capacity decreased as acclimation temperature increased from 2 to 15 °C; the decrease was probably caused by an increase in plasma volume. Also the blood oxygen affinity decreased as the acclimation temperature increased from 2 to 15 °C. This change had no effect on the oxygen loading in gills, since the efferent arterial oxygen tension was adequate for approximately 100% erythrocytic O2 saturation at all acclimation temperatures, but facilitated the oxygen unloading in tissues. At the highest acclimation temperature (18 °C) the oxygen loading in gills was facilitated by the changes in the secondary lamellar structure; the proportion of erythrocytes in the secondary lamellar capillaries was higher than at the other acclimation temperatures (2 and 10 °C). 相似文献

Abstract Uridylyl-(3′,5′)-8-carboxymethylaminoadenosine has been synthesised, and its transesterification to uridine 2′,3′-cyclic phosphate in the presence and absence of Zn2+ ion has been studied. The results show that a carboxylate function in the vicinity of the phosphodiester bond accelerates the metal ion promoted cleavage but not the metal ion independent reaction. Abstract The course of hydrolysis of 3′-deoxy-3′-thioinosylyl-(3′ → 5′)-uridine (IspU) has been followed by HPLC over a wide pH-range. Two reactions of the internucleosidic thiophosphate linkage compete: (i) cleavage yielding thioinosine monophosphates and uridine, and (ii) isomerization to the 2′,5′-isomer of IspU. Under very acidic conditions, even acid-catalyzed depurination of the inosine moiety is observed. The stability of the thiophosphate linkage and the mechanisms of its rupture are discussed. 相似文献
