An artificial neural network is used to classify environments, including climate, terrain and soil variables, according to their suitability for fifteen structural/environmental forest classes in the Wet Tropics Bioregion of north-east Queensland. We map the environments characteristic of these forest classes in four climate regimes (the present and three past climate scenarios), quantify the changes in area of these environments in response to past regional changes in climate and identify areas that would have been environmentally suitable for rainforests at last glacial maximum (glacial refugia). We also identify areas that would have been suitable for upland and highland rainforest classes during the warmest parts of the interglacial (interglacial refugia) and map locations that consistently remain favourable to specific forest classes despite large changes in climate.In the climate of the last glacial maximum (LGM), rainforest environments are predicted in three relatively distinct refugia in the northern, central and southern Wet Tropics. Only three percent of the total area contains lowland, Mesophyll Vine Forest and the majority of the area of the rainforest refugia supports upland rainforest classes. In the cool, wet climate of the Pleistocene/Holocene transition (PHT), rainforest environments expand to form a more or less continuous block from the northern limits of the region to the Walter Hill Range, except for discontinuous patches extending through the Seaview and Paluma Ranges in the south. During the Holocene climatic optimum (HCO), rainforest environments become more fragmented, especially in the south. Lowland rainforest environments are very extensive in this climate while upland rainforest classes are restricted to what we term “interglacial refugia”.Estimated distributions and stable locations (consistently predicted in all four climate scenarios) for the various rainforest environment classes are our main, novel contribution. Each forest environment responds individualistically to climate change. Our results confirm the highly dynamic nature of the Wet Tropics landscape and present a much more detailed picture of landscape change since the late Pleistocene than previously has been available. This mapping exercise should be useful in the future for analyses of present-day biogeographic patterns. Polyploidy plays a significant role in the evolution of flowering plants. Understanding the effects of polyploidy on the epigenetic regulation of adaptive traits may resolve questions about the success of polyploids. One such trait, flowering time, has been the subject of several gene expression studies because it has one of the best characterized genetic networks and because polyploidy has a significant impact on generating variation in flowering time. Future research on the epigenetic consequences of polyploidy on flowering time should begin to examine natural variation in an ecological context, while continuing to make use of resynthesized polyploids. 相似文献

In the heart, ACh activates the ACh-activated K(+) current (I(K,ACh)) via the M(2) muscarinic receptor. The relationship between desensitization of I(K,ACh) and internalization of the M(2) receptor has been studied in rat atrial cells. On application of the stable muscarinic agonist carbachol for 2 h, I(K,ACh) declined by approximately 62% with time constants of 1.5 and 26.9 min, whereas approximately 83% of the M(2) receptor was internalized from the cell membrane with time constants of 2.9 and 51.6 min. Transfection of the cells with beta-adrenergic receptor kinase 1 (G protein-receptor kinase 2) and beta-arrestin 2 significantly increased I(K,ACh) desensitization and M(2) receptor internalization during a 3-min application of agonist. Internalized M(2) receptor in cells exposed to carbachol for 2 h was colocalized with clathrin and not caveolin. It is concluded that a G protein-receptor kinase 2- and beta-arrestin 2-dependent internalization of the M(2) receptor into clathrin-coated vesicles could play a major role in I(K,ACh) desensitization. 相似文献

In this research, production of probiotic pomegranate juice through its fermentation by four strains of lactic acid bacteria:
Lactobacillus plantarum, L. delbruekii, L. paracasei, L. acidophilus was examined. Fermentation was carried out at 30°C for 72 h under microaerophilic conditions. Microbial population, pH, titrable
acidity, sugar and organic acid metabolism were measured during the fermentation period and the viability of all strains was
also determined during the storage time at 4°C within 4 weeks. The results indicated that L. plantarum and L. delbruekii increased the pH sharply at the initial stages of fermentation and the sugar consumption was also higher in comparison with
other strains, better microbial growth was also observed for these two strains during fermentation. Citric acid, as a major
organic acid in pomegranate juice was significantly consumed by all probiotic lactic acid bacteria. L. plantarum and L. delbruekii showed higher viability during the storage time. Viable cells remained at their maximum level within 2 weeks but decreased

Summary Distribution of cholinesterase-containing nerve fibres was studied in 15 human dental pulps by the thiocholine method. Falk's fluorescent method was used to demonstrate catecholamines (8 dental pulps).Cholinesterases were localized partly in the subodontoblastic plexus sending out fine branches towards odontoblasts, and partly in the nerve fibres attached to the blood vessel walls. These fibres in contrast to those of the subodontoblastic plexus were finer and showed fine varicosities.Monoaminergic terminals were localized mainly along blood vessel walls, however, some fibres having no relation to the blood vessels were also found.Cholinesterase-containing nerve fibres in the periphery of the pulp are considered to be sensitive nerve fibres originating from n.V. To 9 different soils, 0, 50, 100 and 200 kg N/ha were applied, resp., as (N15H4)2SO4 with an atom excess N-15 of 1%.No priming effect could be found for any of the treatments. Low-molecular-weight glutenin subunits (LMW-GS) have great effect on wheat processing quality, but were numerous and difficult
to dissect by SDS-PAGE. The development of functional markers may be the most effective way for a clear discrimination of
different LMW-GS genes. In the present study, three different approaches were used to identify SNPs of different genes at
Glu-D3 and Glu-B3 loci in bread wheat for the development of six STS markers (3 for Glu-D3 and 3 for Glu-B3 genes) that were validated with distinguished wheat cultivars. Firstly, seven LMW-GS gene sequences (
AY585350, AY585354, AY585355, AY585356, AY585349, AY585351 and AY585353
) from Aegilops tauschii, the diploid donor of the D-genome of bread wheat, were chosen to design seven pairs of AS-PCR primers for Glu-D3 genes. By amplifying the corresponding genes from five bread wheat cultivars with different Glu-D3 alleles (a, b, c, d and e) and Ae. tauschii, a primer set, S13F2/S13R1, specific to the gene AY585356, was found to be positive to cultivars with alleles Glu-D3c and d. Nevertheless, the other five pairs of primers designed from AY585350, AY585349, AY585353, AY585354 and AY585355, respectively, did not produce specific PCR products to the cultivars tested. Secondly, all the PCR products from the five
primer sets without specific characteristics were sequenced and an SNP from the gene AY585350 was detected in the cultivar Hartog, which resulted in the second STS marker S1F1/S1R3 specific to the allelic variant of AY585350. Thirdly, three Glu-D3 sequences (AB062851, AB062865 and AB062872) and three Glu-B3 sequences (AB062852, AB062853 and AB062860) defined by Ikeda et al. (2002) were chosen to query wheat EST and NR databases, and DNA markers were developed based on the putative SNPs among the sequences.
Using this approach, four STS markers were developed and validated with 16-19 bread wheat cultivars. The primer set T1F4/T1R1 was also a Glu-D3 gene-specific marker for AB062872, while T2F2/T2R2, T5F3/T5R1 and T13F4/T13R3 were all Glu-B3 gene specific markers for AB062852, BF293671 and AY831800, respectively. The chromosomal locations of the six markers were verified by amplifying the genomic DNA of Ae. tauschii (DD), T. monococcum (AA) and T. turgidum (AABB) entries, as well as Chinese Spring and its group 1 chromosome nulli-tetrasomic lines. The results are useful to discriminate

Dystroglycan is a laminin receptor, which with dystrophins and other components forms the dystrophin-dystroglycan complex. It has an important role in the formation of gliovascular connections, cerebral vascularisation and blood-brain barrier. Dystroglycan consists of two sub-units, α and β. Previous studies demonstrated that the β-dystroglycan immunoreactivity of cerebral vessels temporarily disappeared in the area adjacent to the lesion, whereas the vascular laminin which is not immunoreactive in the intact brain became detectable. The present study extends these investigations over other components of the complex: utrophin, α1-syntrophin and α1-dystrobrevin. The experiments were performed on adult rats. The lesions were stab wounds or cryogenic lesions in deep ketamine-xylasine narcosis. Following survival periods 2 to 30 days, the animals were perfused and floating brain sections were processed for fluorescent immunohistochemistry. The α1-dystrobrevin, like β-dystroglycan, vanished temporarily around the lesion. The immunoreactivity of utrophin changed in a similar way to that of laminin. In intact brains they were confined to the entering segments of the vessels and to the circumventricular organs. Following lesions their immunoreactivity manifested in the vessels around the lesions. However, utrophin followed laminin with a delay: their peaks were about POD (postoperative days) 21 and 7, respectively. Only immunoreactivity of α1-syntrophin appeared in the reactive astrocytes, peaking at POD 14. Double-labeling proved its co-localization with GFAP. Cryogenic lesions had similar immunohistochemical effects, but provided more suitable samples for Western blot analysis, which proved the altered levels of α1-dystrobrevin and α1-syntrophin. The phenomena may help to monitor the post-lesion vascular processes and the alterations of the gliovascular connections. 相似文献
